Your JELET rank should be under 1000. You can easily achieve that as the exam is not very tough and most of the questions are from the basics of 11th and 12th. So all the questions should be easy.

IEM Kolkata is a very prestigious private college in West Bengal and it is basically known for some of its branches such as Computer science, Information Technology and Electronics, and Communication engineering. 

Mechanical at IEM:

• Few new branches including Mechanical introduced in the institution that has been added in the recent year.
• The students do not have much of a college life. There are not any extracurricular activities.
• There are only a handful of supportive faculties in these branches.
• There are no proper classrooms, labs for the mechanical branch. The Mechanical engineering department is situated on the Management campus.
• The students are made to follow some irrelevant rules and attend classes and seminars that have nothing to do with their future goals.
• The course curriculum is not industry-oriented. 
• In placements, students are mostly placed in IT companies.
• You won’t get much assistance for GATE preparation here too. Faculties are not very supportive and focus more on attendance.
• Although, students of the Mechanical branch at IEM are doing a good job in student chapters like IEEE, ISHARE, etc. 

The college is good for other branches but for mechanical, you should look for other options.

The hostel life at IEM Kolkata is believed to be very bad. The food that is served to the students is very unhygienic, unhealthy and tasteless. It is very bad and many students have to order food from outside the campus. The students complained about this issue to the authorities but there was no change or improvements. 

The hostel fees are pretty high but in return the facilities provided to the students are very poor. The wifi is also poor in speed and most of the time it didn't work well. Also the limit is only 4GB per month which is very less data in today's world as we need the internet for a lot of things.

They have a strict rule of entering the hostel by 6:30PM which is pretty early. So the hostel life will be very bad and it will be better for a student to stay in rent or PG outside the campus.

IEM Kolkata and Amity University both offer decent BBA programs, which makes it difficult to choose one institute over the other. Given below is a brief discussion on the BBA programs delivered by these two institutes which will help you in choosing the institute.

The academic eligibility required to take admission in BBA at IEM Kolkata is 50% marks in 10+2 and selection is made through UEMJEE. The course fee is 60,000/- for the first semester and 55,000/- for the second semester. Amity University is ranked among the top 10 by Business Today. The selection of the BBA program at this university is done based on the performance of the students in the 10+2 examination. The institute also conducts an English test and a personal interview. The BBA course fee is 1.9 lakhs. Approximately 20% of the students get placed and the average package offered to the students is around 2-3 LPA.

Both institutes have similar placement records and recorded 100% placement offers. The average package offered at IEM Kolkata has been 7.5 LPA while Heritage Institute received 3.75 LPA.

The best institute in terms of placement is Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata. It has pretty good placement records over the years.

The placement conditions of IEM are better than other private engineering colleges of West Bengal. There is no such procedure for getting placements in IEM. Overall, IEM gives a good average placement. Around 97% of students get placed. However, it entirely depends on the company's requirements. 

Some of the basic things which are considered during placements are as follows: 

• Academic score: Make sure your aggregate marks are more than or equal to 60%. 
• Gap year: You should not have any gap year.
• Communication skills: Work on your communication skills and read English newspapers to improve your vocabulary.

IEM Salt Lake is definitely better than Haldia in terms of placements as it is located in the main part of Kolkata. 

However, if you are talking about college life then Haldia Institute of Technology is the better. The campus is the best among other private colleges in West Bengal. If you want a happening college life, then go to Haldia Institute. You will be offered facilities like a gym, clubs to join and such activities that are not easily offered in other private colleges. 

The college fests are the best at HIT and you will be offered the best college life here. Various mass recruiting companies visit the campus and you will be placed easily. It is important to maintain a good CGPA for better job prospects.

IEM is ranked 3rd best for engineering in West Bengal and ranked at 79th position all over India. UEM is ranked 96th for engineering by Times 2020. BCA has a more software-based approach whereas B.Tech includes learning of both hardware and software.

Admission: The admission to BTech at UEM and BCA at IEM is through IEMJEE. The prerequisite for the programs is 10+2 from a recognized board. The cut-offs are declared at the time of admissions.

UEM- It has a placement percentage of 123%; almost all the students get 2-3 job offers.

• The average package is nearly 4.2 Lakhs per annum. The highest package offered was 40 Lakhs per annum.

• For IEM Kolkata, the top recruiters are Deloitte, TCS, CTS, Infosys, and Capgemini.
• According to 2019 placements it had a 100% placement rate.
• The highest CTC offered was 15.5 LPA.
• The average package for IEM is 4.2 LPA.

Both UEM and IEM offer similar placement opportunities but as a course BTech offers more scope as compared to BCA. However, you should be the one to decide which course will be better for you.
