What are the pros and cons of XLRI Jamshedpur vs IIM Ahmedabad?

HS
Hemant Sharma Posted On : November 24th, 2022
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (Graduated 2017)

We can compare IIM Ahmedabad to XLRI Jamshedpur on the basis of the following aspects:

  • Brand Value: Without any doubt the brand value of IIM Ahmedabad is much more than XLRI.

  • Placements: IIM Ahmedabad enjoys a slight improvement in placement opportunities than XLRI

  • Alumni: IIM Ahmedabad has amazing alumni like Raghuram Rajan, Chetan Bhagat, Harsha Bhogle, etc and has dominance over top positions in industry. XLRI on the other hand has its own alumni pool that’s known to back XLRI strongly.

  • Industry scope: Both the colleges enjoy an excellent industry reach. XLRI first BM batch (2020–22) of Delhi NCR campus completed its placements with an average of around 27 lakhs. This shows their vast industry reach.

  • Rankings: If you consider ranking then XLRI is far behind the top IIM Ahmedabad. But in reality it should have ranked 3rd (after IIM A B C).

  • Culture: The culture at IIM Ahmedabad is less vibrant than that of XLRI

So it can be said that both XLRI and IIM Ahmedabad offer if not equal but excellent career opportunities.

Between Ashoka University and Krea University, which is a better option for UG in Liberal Arts?

AS
Auyush Singh Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Computer Science, Ashoka University (2020)

The major differentiating factor between the two is that while Ashoka is a reputed university that has made a name for itself Krea University is comparatively new to people and has yet to achieve that place.

Certain points that one can consider while comparing the above two institutes are:

FACULTY:

Apparently since Ashoka University is much older and more reputed than Krea University it provides elite professors to its students. Although the faculty at Krea is also amazing it still lacks when compared to that of Ashoka’s.

FEE STRUCTURE:

Apparently, Ashoka university is a bit more expensive than Krea University. Although both universities have provisions for education loans, financial aid etc. (refer to college brochure for details). Also, the details of fee structure for the mentioned course in respective colleges is as follows:

INTERNATIONAL EXPOSURE:

Interacting people with different backgrounds is one of the essential components of Liberal Arts.

Ashoka’s Summer Abroad/Semester Abroad programs provide students with these opportunities. This is because they also have tie-ups with some of the best institutes of the world including University of Pennsylvania, Yale University, University of California-Berkeley etc. which also provides their students to attend guest lectures from the professors of best universities of the world.

However, Krea University has also partnered with some elite international organisations (i.e. the Academic Internship Council (AIC), University College Cork (UCC), Australia Council for the Arts and University of Wellington (UoW) New Zealand India Research Institute (NZIRI)). And the number is yet to increase with time.

STUDENT GROUP AND PLACEMENTS:

Since Ashoka has established a name for itself it attracts mostly the best students of the country due to its past records and reputation which is a feat that Krea University will take some time to achieve since it is a newly established university (for UG in liberal arts).

Ashoka University maintains a decent track record of placements including recruiters such as RBL BANK, Albright Stonebridge Group (ASG), Microsoft Research (SGO), McKinsey & Co, Ernst & Young (EY), Bloomberg Quint, Mu Sigma, Boston Consulting Group etc. with average package offers ranging from 7-9 LPA.

Whereas since the first batch of liberal arts at Krea was incepted in the year 2018 the placements scenario is yet to unfold.

Between Ashoka University and Krea University which is a better option for UG in Liberal Arts?

CV
Chinmaye Veluthoor Posted On : October 14th, 2021
Studies Economics at Ashoka University (2022)

Krea University is a newly established university, students tend to have their doubts while opting for it. Ashoka University on the other hand is a well-known esteemed university and is a brand tag in itself resulting in a huge number of aspirants.

Academics:

  • The students of Ashoka University have been the aces for a long time.
  • The Social Science department (Economics, Political Science, History, and Sociology) is often compared to Delhi University’s Social Science department which is a huge achievement.
  • Their Computer Science course is exceptional and has been approved by the University of Pennsylvania’s CiS.
  • The environment at Ashoka is lively and competitive.

Faculty:

  • The academics in both the universities are similar but Ashoka University has better and higher qualified faculty with numerous research papers to be credited for.
  • They have full-time professors who are helpful and cooperative.

Location:

  • The distance of the university from your residence is a huge determining factor.
  • Krea University is two and a half hours away from Chennai City and Ashoka University on the other hand is over an hour from Delhi.
  • It is a known fact that Delhi has better transport facilities therefore traveling and transport facilities are not much of an issue.
  • Krea University is located in a remote place and the only transportation available is by bus from Chennai.
  • Students who would choose comfort over education would rather strike out this option.

Financial aid:

  • The financial aid provided in both universities is limited as it depends on fundings and financial constraints.
  • It is suggested to not rely on it much as it would not be sufficient.

Krea University is undoubtedly a rising to the top university and would be filled with challenges if you opt for it. For now, Ashoka University seems to suit better for any student.

It is difficult to give an accurate answer as you do not mention your prioritization. Both NIT Delhi and NIT Kurukshetra are the reputed institutes in India. NITs only have qualified faculties and have good infrastructure. Apart from this, you will get greater exposure and abundant opportunities at NIT Delhi than at NIT Kurukshetra

So the final decision should be made based on the core subject and your preferences.

MK
Mehak Kaur Posted On : May 15th, 2024
Student at KIET (2022-Present)

As a current student at KIET, my opinion is that the IT branch at KIET is better than that at AKG.

The IT branch has excellent labs and an amazing faculty. You’ll get all sorts of facilities that a department needs. A variety of workshops, seminars, conferences, and guest lectures are organized regularly.

The placement rates have been consistently good over the past 5-6 years. In 2023, the IT branch's placement percentage was about 93.81%. The highest and average CTC stood at INR 48.89 LPA and INR 6.78 LPA respectively. The major recruiters at the IT branch in KIET are Cognizant, Infosys, Flipkart, Amazon, PWC and many others.

Which NIT is better, NIT Patna or NIT Jamshedpur?

AS
Aditi Sukla Posted On : March 2nd, 2024
Lives in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India

NIT Jamshedpur is much better than NIT Patna. NIT Patna lacks the necessary facilities. Moreover, its campus is very small in size. My brother completed his B.Tech Mechanical from NIT Patna, and this information was given to me by him.

NIT Jamshedpur has a better campus, and its placements are also comparatively better. But if you are an IES, GATE, etc. aspirant, NIT Patna is slightly better for you. It is located in the main city because of which, it has easy access to good coaching centers like Madeeasy and Ace.
