What is a better option, NIT Durgapur for chemical or NIT Rourkela for biotechnology?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 16th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

The choice of an institute depends on 2 major factors, the credibility of the institute and the branch you are getting. In terms of the worth of the institute NIT Rourkela clearly overpowers NIT Durgapur. NIT Rourkela ranks second in East India after IIT Kharagpur.

NIT Rourkela Biotechnology is designed for students whose primary focus is pursuing qualitative research and g for a Masters's or Ph.D. That being said, it has limited job opportunities and the placement percentage is as low as 60%. Moreover, only a handful of core companies make offers and the average CTC offered is in the range of 5 -6 Lakhs.

NIT Durgapur Chemical Engineering is a suitable choice if you prioritize placements to research work. Even the core placements are decent here with companies like IOCL, etc visiting the campus during placements.

Ultimately, both institutes and branches offer diverse opportunities so you need to consider your inclinations first. If you are a research enthusiast, NIT Rourkela Biotechnology is great but if your first preference is earning money, then go for NIT Durgapur Chemical Engineering.

Should I go for chemical engineering at Heritage Institute of Technology or CSE at Techno India, Salt Lake ?

AA
Akansha Agarwal Posted On : September 23rd, 2021
Studied at Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata (2017)

Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT) is a very popular engineering institute and if you are interested in pursuing Chemical engineering then you should definitely take admission in this college.

  • The competition is much less for chemical engineering students and a lot of facilities are available for them.
  • There are a lot of placement opportunities available for students and they can easily get a job in both core and IT companies.
  • Many students are getting PSU through GATE and some core companies such as BOC, PCBL, Paharpur Cooling towers, Voith Papers, etc. visit the campus for interviews.
  • But if you are interested in technology and coding then you should probably choose Techno India as this college provides very good opportunities to CSE students.
  • The placements available are very good and top companies such as TCS, Infosys, CTS etc visit the college for interviews.
  • The college provides very good facilities and support to teach you coding and if you are really interested in it, then you will be able to master it with your patience and hard work.
  • And your coding skills are not determined by your college or branch.
  • You should be really passionate about it to be successful in this field.
Categories Chemical Engineering at HIT CSE at Techno India
Course Fee 3.95 lakh 6.32 lakh
Highest CTC 12-15 LPA 15-20 LPA
Average CTC 5-6 LPA 7-8 LPA
Recruiting Companies GlaxoSmithKline, Bengal Chemicals, etc. Wipro, Infosys, Dell, HP, etc.

Hence, both the colleges are very good with excellent placements and academics and it completely depends on your interests in which branch you would like to study and build your career.

Is chemical engineering at jntuh is good?

VR
Vinay Reddy Posted On : September 13th, 2021
B.Tech Chemical Engineering,Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University,Hyderabad (2019)

Yes, chemical engineering at JNTU is good. If you are interested in chemical engineering, then it's the best place to pursue it.

Infrastructure: The Chemical Engineering branch started at the institute only a few years ago. It does not even have a specific departmental block. It shares the block of the Metallurgical department. CE also doesn't have their own labs. Students go to other departments to do their lab work.

Placements: The first batch of Chemical Engineering graduated in 2018 and it had good core placements. Companies like Vedanta, ITC recruit Chemical Engineering students. In recent years the average CTC offered at the institute is 9 LPA.

I will advise you to only opt for Chemical Engineering if you are interested. If a student needs only the tag and brand of JNTU then choosing a chemical branch will not be a good idea.

Which is the best option for chemical engineering, IIT-BHU, IIT Hyderabad or IIT Gandhinagar?

PT
Prashant Tiwari Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering & Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar

IIT BHU, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT Gandhinagar are all premier institutes of India. There are three parameters on which we can differentiate these institutes for Chemical Engineering.

The first one is the academic curriculum. The academic curriculum of IIT Gandhinagar is relatively better than the other two institutes since its curriculum is new and according to the latest advancements in science. Also, a lot of research work is going on in IIT Gandhinagar in the field of chemical engineering.

The second factor is the infrastructure of the campus, in this IIT Hyderabad has an edge over the other two IITs. The infrastructure of IIT Hyderabad is the best amongst these three colleges and the chemical engineering department is also equipped with the latest instruments.

The third and the most important factor is placements in which IIT BHU is a little ahead than these two institutes. IIT BHU is ranked amongst the top 5 colleges in India in terms of placements. In 2019 placement drive a total of 104 students from Chemical Engineering got placed and the average salary ranged between 10 LPA to 58 LPA. Chemical engineering students at IIT BHU get placed in core companies like ONGC, IOCL, HUL, Reliance, etc, and several non - core companies like Microsoft, PhonePe, Flipkart, Goldman Sachs, etc. IIT Gandhinagar is also good for placements in chemical engineering since many private chemical firms are situated in Gujarat but being a new IIT, its alumni strength is not so impressive. There was over 80% placement in IIT Gandhinagar last year with average CTC 8.96 LPA. In IIT Hyderabad, 26 students from Chemical Engineering got placed with an average CTC 15.5 LPA.

All three IITs have their pros and cons which makes it difficult to choose the best.

How is chemical engineering at Amrita?

IR
Indrani Raha Posted On : June 22nd, 2021
B.Tech Chemical Engineering & Materials Science and Engineering, Amrita University (2019)

One of my cousins studied at Amrita. According to him, chemical engineering at Amrita is superior and advanced in comparison with other colleges.

  • The faculty is highly knowledgeable with a doctorate degree. Classes are conducted in the most interesting and pleasant way that’ll work on enhancing the skills of students.
  • Although the resources are made available to the students based on their field of interest, it is on them to drill into all of it.
  • The better they have an understanding of the provided resources the more developed their skills are.
  • Moreover, the department encourages the students to take part in various projects that help them in obtaining a spot in internship and training programs.

However, the students do not get placements in core companies on their completion of UG course. Acquiring a job after higher studies would be less of a hassle. UG here would be a great choice.

What should I take: IIT BHU Electronics or IIT Kanpur Chemical Engineering?

A
Ajay Posted On : June 12th, 2024
Student at IIT Kanpur

I am a student of IIT Kanpur. In terms of infrastructure and facilities, IIT Kanpur is way ahead of IIT BHU. It is one of the oldest and topmost IITs. Even though IIT BHU was actually established in 1919 as Banaras Engineering College, it became an IIT in 2012.

Here is a comparison between the Electronics branch of IIT BHU and Chemical branch of IIT Kanpur based on multiple factors:

Parameters

IIT BHU Electronics (2023 Placements)

IIT Kanpur Chemical (2024- Phase1 Placements)

Year of Establishment

Originally-1919; Became an IIT-2012

Highest Package

Average Package

INR 18.9 LPA

-

(The branch-wise data for 2024 placements of IIT BHU is not yet available. On the other hand, the IIT Kanpur 2024 placements are still ongoing, because of which, the figures are comparatively very small).

If you wish to jump into an IT career, Electronics is a better choice as compared to Chemical. However, IIT Kanpur will provide you with much better exposure, and much wider opportunities as compared to IIT BHU. Additionally, you can learn coding even as a student of Chemical Engineering. This way, even if you don’t get as many IT-based job opportunities on campus, you’ll easily get an off campus offer. The IIT Kanpur tag will help you get into top international universities for higher studies and research work.

Based on these factors, I would suggest you choose Chemical Engineering at IIT Kanpur over Electronics at IIT BHU.
