Which college is better for maths Hons. Jmc or hansraj?
Here is some information regarding the JMC and Hansraj Maths department based on the experience of my friends from both institutes.
JMC:
- The Maths department is well-equipped.
- Along with theory, students need to take up practical projects in their B.Sc. This will help you with your CV.
- JMC has one of the oldest placement cells in DU. It is also quite active. Every year they organize campus placements and reputed companies like KPMC, Deloitte, ITC, Accenture visit to recruit students.
- JMC doesn’t offer hostel accommodation.
Hansraj:
- The student crowd of the institute is quite diverse. You will get to meet people from all over the world.
- The hostel and mess facilities are great.
- Campus life is lively and enjoyable.
- It offers good extracurricular activities.
Go through the above-mentioned points and choose the institute that suits your requirements.
Can i get admission in bsc maths with 48% in borads?
SK Somaiya College does not mention any fixed percentage to get admission in the BSc program. All it says is that the candidate should have passed 10+2 or equivalent in any stream with Mathematics as one of its subjects. The detailed SK Somaiya BSc eligibility criteria as released by the institute are as follows
The candidate must have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, in the following subjects:
- English (Higher or lower level) carrying 100 marks.
- Any one of the modern Indian languages or modern foreign languages or any classical language (Higher level or Lower level) or information Technology carrying 100 marks.
- 4 other subjects from among the subjects mentioned below carrying a total of 400 marks.

- 3 other subjects from among the subjects mentioned below carried a total of 300 marks and one more subject from among the remaining optional subjects carrying 100 marks as prescribed for the H.S.C. Which course should I choose if I get a chance to study at ISI Kolkata, a B.Math or a B.Stat?
Both B.Stat and B.Math are different courses being offered at different campuses at ISI Kolkata and ISI Bangalore respectively. There are only a few common subjects in both courses.
The choice ultimately depends on your choice and interest. You can go through the syllabus of both courses and understand the topics. Find whichever interests you, you can choose to be research-oriented like B.math students or go for M.stat or other courses, if you choose so.
You can apply for only 1 course because the institute conducts the entrance of both courses at the same time and day. You will be able to appear for only one of them.
Should one choose CMI B.Sc in mathematics and computer science over CSE at BITS, Hyderabad, NIT/IIIT Allahabad , IIEST Shibpur or Jadavpur University?
To choose between any of the two, you need to be clear about your page of interest first. Are you interested in theoretical Computer Science and Mathematics or the technical CS&E offered at engineering colleges?
However, having friends at CMI, I will be able to point out the pros and cons associated with the institution:
Pros:
- The biggest advantage you can get here is that you can for Ph.D. immediately after BSc without doing MSc. That’s the reason more than 80% of the whole batch of CMI opts for Ph.D. By this, you can understand the rigor of the course and its focus on research.
- If you do not want to go for Ph.D., you can take up higher-level MSc courses in the institute itself if you have completed the pre-requisites.
Cons
- Honestly, nobody really knows about CMI in India except the Maths fraternity. Even my friend, who is now an alumnus of CMI, came to know about it only when he was in class 12.
- Don’t get surprised when your friends and relatives will go blank when you tell them that you attend CMI.
However, on the other hand, if you go to any of these top engineering colleges and for a CSE program you can definitely get a good placement of 5+ lakhs.

I am a fourth year B.Tech CSE student at IIT Bhubaneswar. As per the NIRF Engineering Ranking 2023, IIT Bhubaneswar is placed 47th. Moreover, IIT Bhubaneswar recorded 100% placements in B.Tech CSE in 2023, and the average package stood at INR 25.18 LPA for this branch. The top recruiters at IIT Bhubaneswar for 2023 placements were- Accenture, Adobe, Amazon, Dell, Deloitte, HCL, Infosys, ISRO, among others.

When it comes to MNC at IIT Kharagpur, the course is primarily focused on Mathematics, while only a small portion is related to coding or computer sciences. However, this can actually work to your advantage because the course structure of MNC department at IIT Kgp offers you an equal opportunity to enhance your skills in coding as well as in Finance or Analytics.
Moreover, if you happen to fall in love with your course, you also have the opportunity to pursue a Phd in Applied Mathematics as you will be graduating with an MSc degree.
Besides the academic advantages, you can also benefit from the well-developed Institute culture and Placement Cell of IIT Kharagpur, which can help shape your career. Taking all of these factors into consideration, I strongly recommend that you consider pursuing MNC at IIT Kharagpur.
Which is better, applied math at IIT Roorkee or CSE at any of the newer IITs like IIT Bhubaneswar or Jodhpur?
I am a second year student at IIT Roorkee. There are several reasons why choosing Applied Math at IITR over CSE at a newer IIT is a better option.
- IIT Roorkee has a strong national and international reputation as it is one of the oldest universities. Its alumni network is extensive and well-regarded. While IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT Jodhpur are rapidly growing and improving, they still don’t have the same recognition or reputation as IIT Roorkee.
- IIT Roorkee has a highly experienced and qualified faculty, particularly in the Mathematics Department. The exposure to high-quality teaching and mentorship can significantly enhance your academic experience.
- The Applied Mathematics program at IIT Roorkee offers strong theoretical foundations and practical applications, preparing you for diverse career paths.
- IIT Roorkee has a strong placement cell and a track record of excellent placement statistics across all departments. Companies value the IIT Roorkee brand, and students from Applied Mathematics often secure positions in top-tier companies, financial institutions, and reseorganizationstions.
Based on all these factors, I suggest you choose Applied Math at IIT Roorkee over CSE at IIT BBSR/Jodhpur.
How are the placements for Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] {Hons.} (Mathematics) at DIT University Dehradun?
The campus provides good placements for CSE students, as I am a BSc Student there are very less companies that offered roles to Bsc students. The college provides placements starting from the 6th semester, the companies that visit the campus are Deloitte, Adobe, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Pal Alto, Techeon, etc. 80-85% of students got placed every year. I am planning for higher studies although.
How is the course curriculum of Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] {Hons.} (Mathematics) in DIT University Dehradun?
I have chosen BSc Honours Mathematics, as I have an interest in it, moreover, I asked my seniors about the college and they suggested I take admission. The student-faculty ratio is 30:1. Most of the faculty hold a Ph.D. degree, although some of them are less experienced. The college conducts two exams per semester, one is the mid-term and the other is the end term. The exams are quite easy to pass.
How are the placements for Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Mathematics) at St Xavier's Mumbai?
After graduation students are eligible for campus hu placement. There are many companies that have visited the college for placement. The highest package offered was a BMM student got a package of 30 lakhs.
