Which college is best for mechanical engineering: RV College Bangalore or Thapar University Patiala?
For Mechanical Engineering, Thapar University is better than RV College. It has better infrastructure. The departmental labs are well-equipped with the latest instruments. Thapar offers better academics as well. The peer group of the college is better compared to RV College.
Thapar University placements for Mechanical Engineering are great. Each year around 60% of the students get placed from the branch. The average CTC received by the students is around INR 6 LPA.
How is the integrated BE-MBA course in Thapar University? Why is it given lower priority than the BE in admissions?
According to one of my friends, who is an alumnus of Thapar University, the integrated program involving BE and MBA is mostly preferred by the students nowadays over many other branches like civil, chemical, mechanical, and many others. At the same time, computer science or electronics plus MBA is a good option to take your career ahead as you may be well aware of the popularity of the computer science branch at Thapar University. Also, there is a benefit of not giving competitive exams such as CAT or GMAT.
The students who remain in the turmoil of giving entrance exams and don't want to write the national level exams or are afraid of not getting LM Thapar according to the marks scored in entrance exams, mostly prefer this course.
Since the course is newly introduced by the university, it will take time to settle and as soon as the stream settles down, automatically the cut-off will go high.
As for why this course has low priority among students, it’s just a mindset problem and has nothing to do with the course or university.

IITD is an old well-reputed IIT. Faculties of the Mechanical Department at IITD are very good and experienced. Also, Peer Group at IITD is very competitive since many top rankers join this college. Mechanical Engineering course curriculum is good and one which provides industry skills. Besides Academics IITD too has many Clubs, Societies where students can join to develop different skills. Also, Campus life of IITD and the City life that Delhi offers is quite amazing. Placements too at IITD are good. In 2019 Mechanical Engineering was the brunch with the highest placement records. Many top Mechanical Core companies visit campus such as HUL, ITC, WIPRO, CBS, HONDA, etc. There are also other job profiles available such as Data Analytics, Software, Consulting, Finance, Education, etc.
You should choose the branch depending on your Interest. Choose Mechanical only if you have keen interest otherwise choose CSE to get more opportunities.
Which is better in placements: mechanical engineering dual degree at IIT Kharagpur or electrical engineering at IIT Roorkee?
There's not much of a difference in terms of placements or campus. Go for your interest.
EE comprises power transfer and machines, whereas Mechanical deals with heavy tools and machinery work.
You should choose IIT Kharagpur Mechanical Engineering dual degree due to following reasons:-
- The Dual degree program is a 5 years program with a combination of B.tech and M.Tech or MBA.
- The dual degree program offers you more opportunities if you want to pursue your MBA after Graduation.
- IIT Kharagpur is ranked 6th in NIRF ranking while IIT Roorkee is ranked 5th.
- IIT KGP has great infrastructure with all facilities like WIFI, Labs, and Library.

Should I take NIT Surat for mechanical engineering or BITS Goa for an MSc in maths?
There are different viewpoints for the same question. It primarily depends upon what is best for you, and whether or not the course you are willing to take interests you.
One of my friends encountered a similar problem likewise, and addressing the same, here are some points you might want to consider before diving into any conclusion,
- A dual degree in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry is claimed as a part of Science, while others are considered in the case of Engineering. You will learn the theories of science instead of the application of technology.
- In Mathematics, you are supposed to learn the series of higher-order and their respective application. While, in Mechanical Engineering, you will learn more deeply about Engines, Boilers, Automobiles, Refrigerator Systems, and much more.
- A single degree, like Mechanical Engineering, CSE, EE, Civil Engineering, or Chemical Engineering, can be more advantageous than dual degrees.
- If you opt for a dual degree in Mathematics, you have a higher probability of becoming a mathematician or a professor. But, in case you pursue Mechanical Engineering from NIT Surat, then you bear higher chances of securing a placement offer at top-tier MNCs.
- Your choice should always remain ahead of most others. The one piece of advice is that in NIT Surat, you supposedly cannot change your degree from M.Sc to B.Tech following the 1st year and vice versa.
You should research the same for BITS Goa and find whether or not the rule is similarly applicable in the institute. This is the basic difference you can find between both institutes.
What is the average package for a mechanical student at BIT Mesra?
The average package for a mechanical engineering batch of 2019 was 7 LPA. A friend of mine considered the amount a good return on Investment and recommended BIT Mesra. In the 2019 placement season, about 63 mechanical engineering students bagged jobs in the campus recruitment program.

Among these, VIT Pune is the best option for Mechanical Engineering.
- VIT Pune Mechanical branch is more than 20 years old. So, it had better exposure. This helps in better industry recognition, tie-ups.
- VIT offers better placements for the Mechanical branch. It offers more core placements compared to VIIT and MIT. According to the VIT Pune Mechanical Engineering placements of the last few years, the average CTC for the branch is 5-6 LPA. VIIT shares campus placement with VIT. But few companies visiting the placement drive don’t allow VIIT students to sit for placement.
VIT, VIIT, and MIT three of these colleges are autonomous, and they update their curriculum regularly. So, you can expect similar academics from all three of these institutes.
