One of my friends studied Chemical Engineering at BITS Pilani. According to him, it is a really tough stream. It is suggested not to drop a year instead ensure that you work very hard.
Herewith I'm providing the basic details for BITS Pilani :
| PARAMETERS | BITS PILANI |
| Tuition Fees | INR 1.78 LPA |
| Placement Percentage | 99% |
| Average Package | INR 17 LPA |
If you opt to drop and secure admission in an IIT, you will be getting only one degree after 4 years. Whereas, you can get 2 individual degrees from BITS after 5 years. There is not much of a difference between BITS and IITs. It is certainly better than the new ones. The top 5 or 6 IITs are better than BITS but letting go of one more year might not be a wise decision.
Assuming that you must have already gone through the essential details required for your decision as to your undergraduate course. Few points are being listed below to give you a better understanding of your area of concern.
You must know that most of the subjects in Chemical Engineering require mugging of the theories. Be ready for it if you are opting for this branch.
Government College of Engineering and Technology Jammu offers undergraduate courses in Engineering. However, these courses are Bachelor in Engineering and not Bachelor of Technology. The primary difference between BE and BTech is that the former focuses on the theoretical foundations of engineering students whereas the latter is an application-based degree.
GCET Jammu offers BE in Civil Engineering the duration of which is 4 years. The eligibility criteria to get admission to this program is
One of my friends recently completed the program and told me that the placement scenario is hopeless with an average package of around INR 2-3 LPA.
So, I will recommend you to go to a better institute.
It’s difficult to compare these branches or any other branches of engineering until and unless you specify the parameters of comparison. Scope, placements, future opportunities, etc., play an important role in differentiating the branches. Also, you should choose based on your interest and future goal while opting for a branch rather than on such parameters.
Now, if you do not have any interest in any particular branch and like most of the students out there, are doing it for the B.Tech tag, you can opt for any of the branches. Both the branches at NIT Trichy are at par. You will get decent placement opportunities from both the branch, provided you maintain decent CGPA. According to the recent placement highlights, the average CTC offered by NIT Trichy is 6 LPA.
I am a second-year chemical engineering student at IIT Bombay. I think you should opt for Chemical Engineering at IIT Bombay.

IIT Bombay is located in a mega-city, with great industry exposure, and easy access to other cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Moreover, IIT Bombay is a much bigger brand than IIT BHU, and it offers much better placements.
Thus, I would recommend you choose B.Tech Chemical at IIT Bombay in place of B.Tech CSE at IIT BHU.
If you are willing to join Management/Analytics/Consulting or IT sector then choose Ceramic Engineering in IIT BHU. Compared to JU, IITs offer much better non-core placements.
If you want to join core companies or PSUs then you should choose JU over IIT BHU. Many core recruiters offer job opportunities to JU Chemical Engineering students. Some of the major core recruiters that visit the campus placement regularly are PepsiCo, Cocacola, ITC, Budwiser, RIL, etc. Well-renowned non-core companies like L&T Infotech, TCS Digital, Infosys, etc visit the JU campus placement as well. One other advantage of choosing Chemical Engineering at JU over Ceramic Engineering at IIT BHU is the public sector. SMPCIL and Vizag Steel are the only two PSUs in Ceramic Engineering.
According to me, for chemical engineering, IIT Gandhinagar is a better option than ICT Mumbai and IIT Hyderabad. I am a student of Chemical Engineering from IIT Gandhinagar and can vouch for the excellent academic standards that the institution offers.
