Bannari Institute of Technology is NBA accredited and AICTE approved. The institute falls under Anna University, it also received an “A” grade from NAAC. It offers a decent B.Tech in Biotechnology program in terms of academics and placements.

• NIRF has ranked BIT in the 151-200 band.

• It was also ranked in the 46th position among the top 165 private engineering colleges by India Today.

Admission and Course fee-

• It offers a 4-year long B.Tech in the field of Biotechnology. The course fee for a year is INR 2 LPA.

• The admission criteria for the course is the same as others, minimum requirements being 10+2.

• Qualified students need to appear for TNEA counseling. After that colleges are allotted on the basis of the ranks.

Placements-

• Students from Biotech have received placements at Zifo, TNS which are the core companies for the subject. Apart from these companies TCS, Bitcoin has also recruited students from this stream.

• BIT’s average salary package goes up to 7 LPA whereas the highest is 25 LPA.

Course Curriculum-

• The curriculum is updated and there are many choices of electives that students can pick.

• Special teaching methods like mind maps, SLS are employed for teaching.

• Biotech Department also calls a lot of industry experts and guest lecturers around the academic year to keep the students updated with the recent industry trends.

Apart from academics students can take part in sports, NCC, and NSS training. BIT also offers many clubs and organizations that students can register to.

Heritage institute of technology is ranked at 154th position in the engineering category by NIRF whereas UEM is ranked at 96th position in the same category by TOI 2020. Heritage offers 9 specializations in B.Tech and UEM has 12. Biotechnology is one of them. Top recruiters at the institutes for the course are the food and beverage industry, laboratories, and pharmaceutical companies.

Admission:

• For the Heritage Institute of Technology,10% of the admissions are done through the JEE counseling process. 80% of the admissions are finalized by the WBJEE counseling process and the remaining 10% seats are reserved for management quota.
• For UEM the admissions for BTech Biotechnology are based on the ranks of IEMJEE. The cut-offs are declared at the time of admissions.

Placements:

UEM- In UEM almost all the students get 2-3 job offers.

• The average package is nearly 4.2 Lakhs per annum. The highest package offered was 40 Lakhs per annum in 2019 placements.
• Top recruiting companies of the college are- top pharmaceutical companies, laboratories, Pepsico, TCS, Wipro, Videonetics, Codeclouds, NRI Fintech, Think analytics, Global Logic, etc.

Heritage Institute of Technology- It has a placement rate of 78%.

• The average package offered is 4 Lakhs per annum. The highest package goes up to 16 Lakhs per annum.
• Top employers’ of the college are- Kissan, Cerner Corporation, Ericson, and DX Core Design.

Both UEM and Heritage Institute of Technology are reputed colleges in Kolkata and offer decent academics and placement opportunities for BTech in Biotechnology. As for which institute is better, you should be the one to decide that.

As one of my friends studied B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from Karunya University, I might not be able to tell you much about biotechnology, but can provide a general overview of the institute.

• The university is located in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and is surrounded by a lush green environment. 
• The university gives an option of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) which is a very good system to bring out individual talents. 
• Also, you will get lots of free time which you can use for pursuing your interests and hobbies. 
• The infrastructure is also quite good and there are a few good professors who are highly experienced.
• Placements are also good. CSE students received good job roles. But the Biotechnology placements may differ. 
• If you choose to become a residential student, you will get even more time. 

If you have the determination and the motivation with a clear goal, then you can succeed at any university and not just at Karunya University.

NIT Arunachal Pradesh is among the top 200 engineering colleges in the country according to the NIRF Ranking of 2020. Ujjain Engineering College is an AICTE approved autonomous institute. Listed below are a few aspects to analyze both institutes:

NIT Arunachal Pradesh, Biotechnology:

Admission-

• Students are accepted for admission based on the JEE Main score and the prerequisite for the program is at least 75% in 10+2 academics.

• The closing cut-off ranking for the biotechnology program at NIT Arunachal Pradesh was 44,563 in 2019.

• The first year fee of the course is 2.2 Lakhs. However, students can also avail scholarships and other fee waivers.

Placements-

• The highest and average salary of the students at this campus is 11.68 LPA and 4.2 LPA respectively.

• The companies visiting the campus for the placement drive are Wipro, Research laboratories, Pharmaceutical companies, Intel, Infosys, Hyundai, Havells, NOKIA, Polaris, Ashok Leyland, Yodlee, Asahi India Glass, and many more.

Ujjain Engineering College, Mechanical engineering:

Admission-

• Like NIT Arunachal Pradesh, Ujjain Engineering college also accepts students based on the intermediate and 10+2 marks.

• The final selection is based on the performance of the students in JEE Main.

• The closing cut-off ranking of the home state and other states for Mechanical Engineering in 2019 was 140822 and 123322 respectively.

• The fee for this course is 99,404.

Placements-

• The highest and average salaries received by the students are 10 LPA and 3.5 LPA respectively.

• The companies visiting the campus are Uttam Galva Steel, Wipro, Intel, Infosys, Lupin, Yash Technologies, BYJU’S, TCS, and many more.

Biotechnology and Mechanical Engineering are two completely different subjects. You should choose the subject you are more passionate about and the institute according to that.

B.Tech in Biotechnology from Amity University is really good as it is a NAAC Grade ‘A’ University and approved by AICTE and UGC. Amity University is a fair option if you want to pursue your B.Tech in Biotechnology and the two main reasons are – Course and Faculty.

If you do not get into IITs or NITs then Amity can be considered as a good option. Almost all the colleges have the same curriculum and course, the difference lies in the type of placements and opportunities offered by the University.

Campus Life:

• A strict No Ragging policy is followed by the College. The College has a huge library.
• The University maintains a healthy gender ratio where the number of girls outweighs the number of boys.
• Various debates and quizzes are organized the whole year round for students to participate in. The famous annual fest – Amicroma is also organized by Amity.

Placements:

• Various internships are offered by the University but they are not paid internships. A student only gets a Recommendation letter.
• The highest package is around 15 lakhs per annum while the average package falls around 3 lakhs to 4 lakhs per annum.
• The placement rate for Amity is 97%.

Course Curriculum:

• The faculty is highly knowledgeable as everybody has completed their Ph.D. in the specialized subject.
• Various course-related activities are also conducted by the University.

Scholarship:

• The Scholarship Policy of Amity is very convenient. If you score between 75% to 88% in class 12, you can get a Scholarship of 25%.
• If you score between 89% to 94% in class 12, you can get a Scholarship of 50%.
