One of my friends has completed his BTech from NIT Patna. I have an idea about the academic environment and placement opportunities at NIT Patna.
Overall, completing MTech from NIT Patna might offer excellent opportunities. The government of India also encouraged the researchers by its schemes directly from NITs. You can also opt for academia and become a teacher or start working in a PSU. The institute will provide you with enough time and opportunities for civil services or IES,
M.Tech structural engineering at IIT Madras is both challenging and rewarding. IITM is a prestigious institution, and its tag holds a lot of value both inside and outside of India.
Time will pass very quickly during this course, and by the end of it, you’ll feel that there’s still a lot more to learn. The environment is quite competitive. If you’ll miss your lectures, it’ll be very hard to understand basic concepts while preparing for exams.
Some professors are very likable, but you’ll not like the teaching style of many. Added to it is the tremendous workload. You’ll be overwhelmed by the never ending assignments. You won’t be spoon fed by anyone. You’ll get the reference books, syllabi and lecture notes, but you’ll have to study by yourself on a regular basis.
Work hard by yourself, and show keen interest in learning. The professors will be happy to guide you and work with you, given that you show proper interest. They publish lots of research material every year, and are in constant search of good students to help them.
Your career will get a positive direction at IIT Madras if you’ll work hard and make the most of your time on campus.
My knowledge is limited to MTech Civil Engineering placements from IIT Kanpur only. But I believe the placement scenario of IIT Kanpur and IIT Roorkee is pretty much the same.
The core Civil Engineering companies prefer structural engineers to transportation engineering and the competition is also high. For a structural engineer position, you might even have to compete with dual-degree students as companies generally prefer them for the structural engineering profile. Also, the number of structural engineers is higher than transportation engineers theory increasing the competition.
Coming to placements, MTech civil engineers rarely land good packages. A few consulting companies like Spectrum offer a very low package of around INR 4-5 LPA and recruit you as a trainee for 6 months. Lnt also offers 36000 per month to engineering trainees for a period of 6 months.
The general distribution of MTech Civil engineers is as follows
The average package depends on a lot of factors like what career prospect you go for.
Placement for M-tech in institutes like IIT varies from batch to batch due to the lesser requirement of an M-tech candidate to do a particular work. The placements of structural engineering or that of any branch depend more on the placement division of the institute of that batch.
The placements for structural engineering are decent with an average package of around INR 5 LPA. I deem it as one of the best institutes to study structural engineering in India considering the fact that its research work is on par with many old IITs. The institute renders an opportunity to learn and grow with the most genius minds in the country
The M.Tech program of Environmental Geotechnology at NIT Calicut is an interdisciplinary branch.
In the first semester, you will be taught about Geotechnological Engineering and in the second semester, you will learn about subjects that are in Environmental Engineering such as Groundwater Hydrology.
All in all, this course is more towards the Geotechnical side than the Environmental side. You also have to undertake projects. Usually, most people opt for Geotechnical projects.
Talking about the prospects of the future, L&T has been the only recruiters for some years now they recruited very few students pursuing postgraduate.
If you want to teach this course in the future, then pursuing it will be a good idea. It is definitely a good course but not the best. Join if you are interested in the course and not for the NIT tag.
