Based on various parameters like salary packages, peer group, etc. NITs are definitely better than SASTRA.
However, SASTRA is also a reputed university, especially if we talk about research facilities. It has a great research infrastructure. The faculties are also good. Many of them are IIT or NIT alumni. The faculty research outcome of SATRA is similar to that of NIT Trichy, in terms of citation.
Alumni of SASTRA are pursuing their studies in reputed universities around the world like MIT, Caltech, Harvard, etc.
Dedicating faculties and a great placement record are the reasons why SASTRA stands out. In 2021 placement drive students at the university received 2300 job offers. Depends on which course you are applying to. You may not get ECE or CSE with your rank. Since the cutoff remains over 985 for these branches. However, there are many other good branches available like EEE, EIE, IT, ICT, etc. Also, the cutoff mentioned before is for SASTRA main campus only.
There is another campus of SASTRA in Kumbhakonam. You can get branches like ECE, CSE there with your rank.
The required cutoff for SASTRA University varies each year. It’s best if you attend all the counseling. Take any branch that you are getting admission into. After the first year, if you have the required CGPA, you can apply for branch sliding. You will need a CGPA of over 7.5 in order to be eligible for branch change. However, to get popular branches like ECE/EEE/CSE you will need a CGPA of around 8-9.
It depends on where you want to live and study. If you are comfortable staying in Pondicherry and are interested in ECE, go with PEC, which is one of India's oldest institutes.
On the other hand, SASTRA University is a more recent private prestigious university and it has great infrastructure facilities and placement record. BioTech in Sastra has IT placements with a lot of companies whereas ECE in PEC has good placement but is not that great.
The table shows a brief overview of the institution:
Particulars | PEC | SASTRA |
Highest CTC | 10 LPA | 28.3 LPA |
Average CTC | 4 LPA | 9.3 LPA |
Fees | 3.77 LPA | 6.20 LPA |
You can opt for PEC as its fee is lower than SASTRA. However, go for it only if you are getting a seat in ECE. If not, SASTRA can be considered as a final option.
