My sister is a student at Thapar University and here are some of the things that she complains about.
Overall, Thapar University is a decent college but certainly needs to improve a few things.
There is no management quota at Thapar University. Admission is based on merit. Students are selected based on their JEE or 10+2 scores. The admission and counseling process is transparent.
The university gives 12 percent seat reservations for the student of the faculty. Which is often misunderstood as the management quota.
LM Thapar School of Management has been recording excellent placements over the years for management students.MBA at Thapar University is a great program that has made its mark in the corporate world thereby attracting excellent companies. Students are offered lucrative packages and intriguing profiles as the companies identify their knowledge and skills imparted by the university.

Life at Thapar University is great. Everyone is helpful and they get along very well. If you have a friendly nature then you will love this place and your college life here. Once you start making friends and talk to new people the experience is truly amazing and tremendous. The best way to enjoy your life here is to join a society. It will help you make a lot of new friends and will also improve your personality. It will also keep you busy.
You will find a lot of people from Delhi and Punjab so you won’t feel like an outsider. So, don’t worry and try to enjoy your college life.
One of my friends was able to secure a 9 CGPA at Thapar University. He claimed that no extra hard work was required and all he had to do was determine the right strategy. Firstly he divided the semester into two parts. The major and minor courses. Assuming that the semester had 6 courses in all,
For Midsemetser, he attended 90-95 percent classes, 100% labs, and maximum tutorials. Once the result has been declared he chose an easy and a difficult course depending on the results. Then for the End Semesters, he worked in other subjects diligently. His goal was to score 2 A' in Course Major and 2 A's in Course Minors and Bs in the rest of the courses.
He repeated the same strategy and was able to score a 9 CGPA!
Without any doubt, CSE at Thapar University is a fairly better option than CSE at UIET. The academic culture as well as the availability of opportunities is way more at Thapar and you won’t regret choosing it over UIET.
The only drawback of Thapar University is its increasing fees. So if you have any financial constraints you need to consider this.
A number of central government PSUs and other government firms hire Electrical Engineers. Some of these government institutions include- ISRO, DRDL, BHEL, PGCL etc. Therefore, for government jobs both Civil and Electrical Engineering from Thapar University are a good option.
However, for private sector jobs, Electrical Engineering from Thapar University is a better option. Even for research opportunities, Electrical is a better option than Civil Engineering. In areas like wireless power transmission, solar efficiency improvement, etc. a breakthrough will fetch you a lot of patents.
Go for Civil if you are genuinely interested in this branch. You can also go for research in this field. But for Civil, the importance of R&D in the Indian market is quite low. Internships will be difficult for you to get in this branch and switching to software is not easy. The Civil coursework will not challenge you and you might develop laziness. However, as a Civil Engineer, if you have a few contacts and can establish your own firm, you will make good money.
As far as streams are concerned, Electrical is a better option than Civil. However, I would suggest you talk to Thapar University alums to figure out which branch gets more placement offers at Thapar. You should find out which branch has a better faculty and placement offers before making a choice.
