- Branch- If you have a particular interest in one of these branches, I would recommend you choose your college according to that. Both these branches offer good placements, though CSE students end up grabbing the highest packages. Both the colleges offer decent placements.
During the 2023 placement season, the median package for ECE branch at PEC stood at INR 18.40 LPA. Last year, the CSE branch at NIT Hamirpur recorded 96.81% placements. 139 offers were received in total, and the highest salary stood at INR 1.12 CPA.
- Brand name- Both the colleges are at par with one another, but NIT Hamirpur carries the much-valued ‘NIT’ tag. It has a good infrastructure and a beautiful campus. The surroundings are serene and close to nature. If you have an interest in traveling, photography, and trekking, Hamirpur is more suitable to explore these interests. PEC definitely offers more exposure, being based out of Chandigarh.
Based on your personal preference, you can choose either of the two options.
How is PEC Chandigarh at present? Should I go for it over NIT Jalandhar?
Situation at PEC Chandigarh is pretty good currently. The new director has brought about a prominent change in the earlier stagnant situation at PEC. He has broadened the approach with an exhaustive curriculum and better infrastructure.
The next best change he has brought about is amazing placement opportunities. If you are from a branch like CS Or Mechanical, you will definitely land a core job. Highest package this year was INR 42 LPA.
Lots of sports facilities are improving. Other facilities include new centres like Siemens Centre of excellence(only 3 more in India) and solar tech park
Voyagers scheme where students get funded by college to explore rural India is surely another game changing feature of the college.
Extracurricular activities are also valued here and there are a lot of clubs to pursue your hobby.
The quality of faculty is also increasing gradually.
All these changes prove that you should definitely go for PEC over NIT Jalandhar.
Which is better: CSE at PEC, Chandigarh or IT at IIIT, Allahabad?
IT at IIIT Allahabad is a better option, compared to CSE at PEC. In terms of academics, facilities, and placements, it has an edge over PEC. IIIT Allahabad placement 2022 concluded with an average CTC of INR 19.52 LPA. The highest CTC offered this year was INR 32.5 LPA. The placement rate was around 100%. The campus has a good student crowd, peer learning opportunities are ample.
But PEC has a locational advantage. Compared to Allahabad, Chandigarh offers better exposure and career opportunities.
Should I take mechanical engineering in PEC, Punjab engineering college or Thapar University?
One of my friends had the same options a few years back and chose Mechanical at PEC. Here are the reasons why.
- The batch size of Thapar is huge. There are almost 500 seats in the Computer Branch.
- The closing cutoff is lower for Thapar University.
- Chandigarh will offer more exposure in comparison to Patiala. You will have more opportunities to prepare for higher studies like M.Tech or MBA.
- PEC is quite reputed among students. It is even considered better than some NITs.
- PEC has a better placement record as compared to Thapar.

One of my cousins left NIT Hamirpurfor PEC and no one could answer this question better. Here is what he stated
- The crowd quality is much better at PEC. The seniors are very helpful and your peers are highly intellectual thus motivating you to perform better. NIT Hamirpur on the other hand has some cases of ragging.
- NIT Hamirpur is located remotely although its campus is very serene and beautiful. PEC on the other hand is situated amidst the hustle and bustle of the city with every service available at doorstep.
- NIT Hamirpur has better faculty but this does not matter because, in the end, you have to resort to self-studying.
- NIT Hamirpur being a government college has an amazing infrastructure while PEC is way behind.
