If you're studying to become a doctor and are interested in ophthalmology, you might be curious about the experience of studying at AIIMS Delhi which can also work as a motivating factor for you. Here are some reasons why AIIMS Delhi might be a great place to learn:

  • Exposure to a wide range of cases: During your residency at AIIMS Delhi, you'll see a huge volume of patients with various eye conditions, ranging from the commonest to the rarest of rare cases. This will give you exposure to a wide range of cases, and you'll learn a lot simply by seeing them.
  • Accurate diagnosis: The consultants at AIIMS Delhi have seen so many patients that their diagnoses are almost always accurate. They use objective criteria to make a diagnosis, and they don't rely on subjective opinions or intuition. This will help you learn to diagnose cases more accurately and objectively.
  • Serious academic rounds: The academic rounds at AIIMS Delhi are taken very seriously, and they happen twice a week. This will prepare you well for your final exams and help you become more sensitized to the exam-like feeling of being evaluated.
  • Internationally accepted treatment guidelines: At AIIMS Delhi, standard and internationally accepted treatment guidelines are followed for all patients. This will help you learn the right way to do things and give you a solid foundation for your future medical practice.
  • Repeated scrutiny of patients: At AIIMS Delhi, each patient is seen multiple times, from their first visit in the outpatient department to their stay in the ward. This repeated scrutiny ensures that nothing is missed, and it also helps you as a physician avoid making mistakes.
  • Excellent faculty: The faculty at AIIMS Delhi is among the best in the country, and you'll have the opportunity to learn from some of the top doctors and researchers in the field. This will give you a solid foundation for your future career and help you stay up-to-date with the latest research and medical practices.

In summary, studying at AIIMS Delhi can provide you with a unique and valuable learning experience. You'll see a wide range of cases, learn from accurate diagnoses, participate in serious academic rounds, follow internationally accepted treatment guidelines, avoid making mistakes through repeated patient scrutiny, and learn from excellent faculty. All of these factors combined can help you become a highly skilled and competent physician.

As a parent what do I need to know about IISc Bangalore? My daughter is about to join there.

AB

You must feel proud of your daughter for getting into IISc Bangalore. I can assure you that she will have a bright future. These are a few things I need you to know as the parent of an IISc student-

  1.  The first year is quite busy so she may not be able to call home as often as you would like her to.
  2. She might leave the lab for the hostel as late as 1 AM or 2 AM sometimes, such is the nature of research work. However, the campus is safe and women are often spotted leaving the labs for the hostel at midnight.
  3. The food quality in the mess is good.
  4. You as a parent can visit your daughter and stay at the guest house of IISc Bangalore for a maximum of five days. You will have to pay a required amount on a per day, per person basis.
  5. To reach IISc Bangalore from the airport, take the airport bus number 10. Ask the conductor to drop you off at the Tata Institute’s Main Gate. This is the most economical way to reach IISc Bangalore from the airport.
  6. Always ask the bus conductor or auto driver to drop you off at the Tata Institute instead of IISc Bangalore.

These are a few tips and important points that I wanted to share with you.

How was your first day at IISc Bangalore?

SB
Saikat Banerjee Posted On : July 14th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc)

I did my M.Tech in Materials Engineering from IISc Bangalore (2014-2016 batch). My first official day at IISc Bangalore was eventful and tiresome.

I reached the faculty building early in the morning. All the necessary procedures for the day had to begin from there. I was happy because I thought that my good score would allow me to choose my hostel and mess. I had made up my mind to go for D Mess and NBH.

When I reached the faculty office, I saw a long queue of students ahead of me. I got 125 in waiting. When my turn came, my documents were verified and after that, the mess and the hostel were to be allocated.

For this I had to visit the hostel office. I was so disappointed to find out that the hostels and mess were being allotted on the basis of the lottery system. I had the least faith in my luck. I ended up getting a hostel which was in the ‘last corner’ of IISc Bangalore (in P block). However, luckily, I got D Mess.

Other than this incident, during my first official day at IISc Bangalore, I ended up meeting many new people and making friendships that would last a lifetime.

Do northern Indian people find it difficult to adjust to the top NIT’s in the south?

DS
Divya Saraf Posted On : August 17th, 2023
Lives in Hyderabad

North Indians may face slight issues while adjusting to the culture and language at South Indian NITs like NIT Warangal.

  • Language: There isn't much of a language problem here because most academic conversations are conducted in the English language. However, outside the college, you may find it very difficult to deal with the public, especially the drivers and shopkeepers. If you have some good South Indian friends, they will help you.
  • Food : Usually there is a separate mess for South and North Indian food. But if your college does not have this provision, you will have to adapt yourself to the south indian taste. Students are usually given basic dishes like rice, dal, vegetables, chapati, bread butter etc. with a hint of south Indian flavor in each. For a change, you can sometimes visit canteens or restaurants.
  • Culture : Here you won't be able to celebrate Diwali, Holi and Dussehra the way you do in your home state. South Indian festivals like pongal , ugadi, ganesh chaturthi, diwali, holi, saraswati pooja will be celebrated by all.
  • Crowd: South Indians are very friendly, hospitable, and honest. They respect you and your culture and expect the same from you. You will end up with many South Indian friends by the end of your college life.

It's true, North Indians have to come out of their comfort zones to adapt to the culture at NITs. but once you have adjusted yourself, you will love how diverse your friend group is and the amazing experiences they gave you.

How good is machine learning course of IISC Bangalore (video lectures which are on nptel)?

RS
Rishabh Singh Posted On : February 8th, 2024
Lives in banglore

I lack knowledge of this particular course. But on nptel itself, there is a course called ‘Pattern Recognition and Neural Networks’ by Prof. P. S. Sastry. It is one of the best courses by an IISc Bangalore faculty.

In this course, sir gives unbelievable insights for complicated equations. His students at IISc refer to him as ‘GOD’ for a reason. This course is more mathematically rigorous than the Machine Learning course by Andrew NG on coursera. But the latter is probably better from a practical implementation point of view.

You can check these two courses as well, and then decide which of the three courses is best suited for your learning.

Which should I choose: IIT Madras for metallurgy over NIT Trichy for computer science and engineering?

AS
Aditi Sengupta Posted On : March 29th, 2023
Studied at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

If you're trying to decide what to study at university, it can be overwhelming. You should consider CSE at NIT Trichy, instead of going to IIT Madras for metallurgy. Here are some reasons why you should choose computer science engineering:

  • Don't choose a branch just for the sake of a tag: You may feel pressure to choose a certain branch of study because of the prestige associated with it, but this can be a mistake. Instead, consider your long-term career goals and what will be most beneficial to you in achieving them.
  • Don't risk your career for a tag: Going for a branch just because it's considered prestigious, even if it's not the best fit for you, can be a big risk. Your career is important and you should choose something that will set you up for success in the future.
  • Topping the class doesn't guarantee certainty: If you're certain you want to change your branch and you're confident you'll be able to top your class at IIT Madras, you may be considering metallurgical engineering. However, there's always a risk that you won't be able to achieve that top spot. If that happens, you'll be stuck with a degree that may not be as useful for your career goals.

Is NIT, Srinagar good?

SM
Spandita Majumder Posted On : September 20th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Agartala (2019)

As an alumnus of NIT Srinagar, here is my opinion of my institution.

Kashmir is perfect for personal growth. Kashmiris are polite and helpful. They never badmouth non-Kashmiri Indians, though they have their own issues with the army. Kashmir is the right place if you love nature, and enjoy exploring. Srinagar is a mesmerizing city, and you’ll never forget it, even long after graduating.

NIT Srinagar is placed 82nd in the 2023 NIRF Engineering Rankings, which is a decent rank. Hostel and mess facilities aren’t great. The campus life isn’t too hectic, and you’ll get ample time to learn new skills.

Overall, NIT Srinagar is a decent college for your engineering studies.
