You must feel proud of your daughter for getting into IISc Bangalore. I can assure you that she will have a bright future. These are a few things I need you to know as the parent of an IISc student-

1.  The first year is quite busy so she may not be able to call home as often as you would like her to. 
2. She might leave the lab for the hostel as late as 1 AM or 2 AM sometimes, such is the nature of research work. However, the campus is safe and women are often spotted leaving the labs for the hostel at midnight.
3. The food quality in the mess is good.
4. You as a parent can visit your daughter and stay at the guest house of IISc Bangalore for a maximum of five days. You will have to pay a required amount on a per day, per person basis.
5. To reach IISc Bangalore from the airport, take the airport bus number 10. Ask the conductor to drop you off at the Tata Institute’s Main Gate. This is the most economical way to reach IISc Bangalore from the airport.
6. Always ask the bus conductor or auto driver to drop you off at the Tata Institute instead of IISc Bangalore.

These are a few tips and important points that I wanted to share with you.

I did my M.Tech in Materials Engineering from IISc Bangalore (2014-2016 batch). My first official day at IISc Bangalore was eventful and tiresome. 

I reached the faculty building early in the morning. All the necessary procedures for the day had to begin from there. I was happy because I thought that my good score would allow me to choose my hostel and mess. I had made up my mind to go for D Mess and NBH. 

When I reached the faculty office, I saw a long queue of students ahead of me. I got 125 in waiting. When my turn came, my documents were verified and after that, the mess and the hostel were to be allocated.

For this I had to visit the hostel office. I was so disappointed to find out that the hostels and mess were being allotted on the basis of the lottery system. I had the least faith in my luck. I ended up getting a hostel which was in the ‘last corner’ of IISc Bangalore (in P block). However, luckily, I got D Mess. 

Other than this incident, during my first official day at IISc Bangalore, I ended up meeting many new people and making friendships that would last a lifetime.

Strong determination and dedication are the keys to success. Covering each and every topic given in the syllabus and doing self-study is the best tool. You can score good grades with an appropriate study plan. 

Following are a few tips to score the best in Mumbai University:

• Make detailed notes for yourselves on every topic during lectures
• Never skip class work or tasks given by the teachers. Try to produce the best among others
• Reduce your leisure time and work hard with determination and dedication.
• Attempt every question and ensure good handwriting while writing the exams, which will help to impress the examiners.

Scoring an 8+ CGPA at Mumbai University is not an impossible task for an engineering student. Stay motivated, and your effort will pay off.

IIM Lucknow is one of the most renowned business schools in the country. Studying at IIM Lucknow is a one-of-a-kind experience. You will find the library filled with books on different topics, and make many friends and endless memories on campus.

You will have the opportunity to learn from some of the best professors in the country. You can access numerous databases which only the biggest Indian companies can otherwise provide.

The highest package for placement (2021-2023) was 1 CPA and the average package was INR 32.23 LPA.

But the academic pressure might take a toll on you. There will be endless assignments, quizzes, and case competitions. The extensive preparation for the placement drive will cause a lot of stress.

Coming back to the positive side, IIM Lucknow makes sure that its students come from diverse academic backgrounds. The gender diversity on campus is good. You will thus get the chance to interact with India’s brightest minds from diverse academic backgrounds.

IIM Lucknow also has a beautiful campus (one of the best in India as a Business School). The sports block and various committees will help relieve all the stress from studies and the placement drive. 

North Indians may face slight issues while adjusting to the culture and language at South Indian NITs like NIT Warangal.

• Language: There isn't much of a language problem here because most academic conversations are conducted in the English language. However, outside the college, you may find it very difficult to deal with the public, especially the drivers and shopkeepers. If you have some good South Indian friends, they will help you. 
• Food : Usually there is a separate mess for South and North Indian food. But if your college does not have this provision, you will have to adapt yourself to the south indian taste. Students are usually given basic dishes like rice, dal, vegetables, chapati, bread butter etc. with a hint of south Indian flavor in each. For a change, you can sometimes visit canteens or restaurants.
• Culture : Here you won't be able to celebrate Diwali, Holi and Dussehra the way you do in your home state. South Indian festivals like pongal , ugadi, ganesh chaturthi, diwali, holi, saraswati pooja will be celebrated by all. 
• Crowd: South Indians are very friendly, hospitable, and honest. They respect you and your culture and expect the same from you. You will end up with many South Indian friends by the end of your college life. 

It's true, North Indians have to come out of their comfort zones to adapt to the culture at NITs. but once you have adjusted yourself, you will love how diverse your friend group is and the amazing experiences they gave you. 

As an alumnus of NIT Srinagar, here is my opinion of my institution.

Kashmir is perfect for personal growth. Kashmiris are polite and helpful. They never badmouth non-Kashmiri Indians, though they have their own issues with the army. Kashmir is the right place if you love nature, and enjoy exploring. Srinagar is a mesmerizing city, and you’ll never forget it, even long after graduating. 

NIT Srinagar is placed 82nd in the 2023 NIRF Engineering Rankings, which is a decent rank. Hostel and mess facilities aren’t great. The campus life isn’t too hectic, and you’ll get ample time to learn new skills.

Overall, NIT Srinagar is a decent college for your engineering studies.
