I'm getting a seat at NIT Jalandhar in production engineering. What is the scope of the branch in India? Which master's should I choose: an MBA or an MTech?

HC
Harshita Ch Posted On : December 7th, 2022
Btech from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar ( NITJ ) (Graduated 2019)

Scope of Industrial and Production Engineering is good at NIT Jalandhar. But you will be offered less salary in comparison to Mechanical Engineering.

But if you go for a non-core job, the salaries offered might be above average.

Between M.Tech and MBA, I will recommend you go for MBA. This is because M.Tech placements are very low and very little scope is there.

Choosing MBA will get you the following benefits:

  • Better salary than M.Tech.

  • The curriculum for IPE is easier so you can also prepare for CAT alongside

  • The faculty is extremely supportive

  • The syllabus of IPE and MBA is somewhat similar so it becomes easy for you

People choose M.Tech thinking its a bit similar to IPE. But in reality IPE has a practical and managerial subjects whereas M.Tech has more technical subjects. So don’t get confused and just go for IPE.

Should I take production engineering at MNNIT Allahabad or mechanical engineering at NIT Jalandhar?

SZ
Saher Zehra Posted On : January 5th, 2023
B. Tech. in Mechanical, National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra (Graduated 2017)

Mechanical is an option at NIT Jalandhar.

Although MNNIT Allahabad has a better brand name than NIT Jalandhar, the production branch has many disadvantages when compared to the mechanical branch.

Unless someone specifically mentions Production Engineering, you will have to compete with mechanical students at NIT Allahabad during placements and off-campus interviews. When compared to Mechanical, there are fewer job opportunities.

There may now be one or two PSUs with separate vacancies for Production students. Mechanical paper is required in order to obtain PSUs, which are extremely difficult to crack. GATE is very important for core branches, and Mechanical has a high level of competition compared to other branches. Only if you intend to change your branch after one year should you enroll in NIT Allahabad; otherwise, do not.

What should be the preference order in NIT Jamshedpur Metallurgy, Civil, production for JoSAA Counseling?

GG
Gargi Gupta Posted On : September 6th, 2023
Studied at NIT Jamshedpur

One of my friends chose ProductionCivil and Metallurgy at NIT Jamshedpur. Honestly, the preference may vary from person to person depending on their career prospects and inclinations. However, I can certainly guide you to decide the right one

  • If you are a Physics or Maths guy who wants to study Mechanical or is planning to pursue an MBA later then the right choice for you is Production Engineering
  • If you are interested in Chemistry and want to pursue a research-based career in or outside India then go for Metallurgy.
  • If you want to land a decent government job or prepare for UPSC, then Civil is the right option for you.

So the preference order in my opinion is Production>Metallurgy>Civil. Ultimately it’s your own preferences that will determine the choice.

Which is better, production engineering at NIT Agartala or civil engineering at NIT Arunachal Pradesh?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 19th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

NIT Agartala would be a better option than NIT Arunachal Pradesh. Though civil engineering is a popular course than Production engineering based on ranking and placement NIT Agartala campus comes before NIT Arunachal Pradesh.

According to the NIRF report 2023, NIT Agartala ranked 91 and NIT Arunachal Pradesh ranked 101 among all the top engineering colleges of India.

In NIT Agartala companies such as Google, Amazon, Adobe, BYJUs, Wipro, TCS, and LinkedIn have visited the campus. The average package is 15 lakhs and the highest package is 52 lakhs. Around 90% of students get placed this year. Whereas last year at NIT Arunachal Pradesh 48.3% of students got placed.

After completing the course from NIT Agartala in production engineering will offer a good placement offer as well as a completion certificate from a prestigious institution.

Which college will be better for me, NIT Trichy (production engineering) or NIT Jalandhar (CS, IT)?

LK
Lakshay Kaushik Posted On : December 8th, 2022
B tech from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar ( NITJ ) (Graduated 2017)

Comparing the two NITs we know NIT Trichy has a better ranking than NIT Jalandhar. It also holds a stronger brand name. Unless you are extremely interested in Software, I suggest Production Engineering is a better choice. Some points to prove my opinion are:

  • NIT Trichy ranks in the top 15 engineering institutes in the country from a placement perspective.

  • More companies visit for campus placements like Amazon, Microsoft, Flipkart, and Cisco.

  • NIT Trichy has an upper hand in faculty, infrastructure, competitive environment, peers, resources, curriculum, labs, and alumni network.

  • Many finances, banking, consulting, etc. based roles are offered at NIT Trichy and these opportunities are considerably low at mid-level NITs such as NIT Jalandhar.

  • Post Graduation, if you wish to switch sectors then the brand name of NIT Trichy will help you along the way.

So don't lose a much stronger brand simply because of a simple stream issue. Years down the line, your credibility will be determined by the brand of NIT Trichy solely and not by production engineering at NIT Trichy.

What should I choose NIT Allahabad production, NIT Bhopal chemical or NIT Raipur electrical?

AA
Aarti Ahuja Posted On : September 12th, 2023
Lives in Allahabad

Irrespective of whichever branch you are getting the preference order for the aforementioned NITs is NIT A > NIT B > NIT R.

However, your interest plays a big role in determining the right branch for you. Some choose a branch they are genuinely interested in while some go for a branch that provides better opportunities.

In the first case, their passion leads them in their career while in the second case, the plethora of opportunities will be the guiding light. Students are in general confused about choosing a good college over a good branch or vice versa. I will advise you to always prioritize your interests in that case because you will have to pursue that field not just for 4 years of graduation but throughout life.

Here is a brief overview of these colleges:

Particulars

NIT Raipur

NIT Bhopal

NIT Allahabad

Fees

INR1.41 Lakhs (BTech 1st Year Fees)

INR 1.54 Lakhs (BTech 1st Year Fees)

INR 84,666 (BTech 1st Year Fees)

Highest CTC

-

INR 85.36 LPA

INR 1.35 CPA

Average CTC

INR 10.1 LPA

INR 11.55 LPA

INR 11.22 LPA (2022)

Top Recruiters

Wipro, Capgemini, Infosys, Adobe, Aditya Birla Group etc.

SBI Card, Reliance, Optum, Wipro, Jio, Bharti Airtel, etc.

Adobe, Country Delight, D.E. Shaw, Cognizant, Ericsson, Maruti Suzuki, etc

However, not everyone is lucky to get what they desire. So if you end up in a branch you have no interest in, then try to gain interest slowly.
