AS
Ankit Sharma Posted On : April 15th, 2023
B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad (2018)

All three colleges, IIT Dhanbad, IIT BHU, and MNNIT Allahabad, are well-reputed and offer quality education in their respective fields. However, the choice between the three ultimately depends on your personal preferences and career goals. Here are some points to consider:

IIT Dhanbad (CS):

Pros:

  • One of the top-ranked engineering colleges in India.
  • Strong faculty with research expertise in various fields of Computer Science.
  • Good industry collaborations and placement opportunities.

Cons: Relatively new compared to some of the other IITs, so may not have as established an alumni network.

IIT BHU (Electrical):

Pros:

  • One of the oldest and most prestigious engineering colleges in India.
  • Strong faculty with research expertise in various fields of Electrical Engineering.
  • Good industry collaborations and placement opportunities.

Cons: As an Electrical Engineering program, it may not have as many opportunities to specialize in Computer Science.

MNNIT Allahabad (CS):

Pros:

  • One of the top-ranked NITs in India.
  • Strong faculty with research expertise in various fields of Computer Science.
  • Good industry collaborations and placement opportunities.

Cons: May not have as established an alumni network compared to the older IITs.

Based on the above factors, it would be recommended to consider IIT Dhanbad (CS) as the best option among the aforementioned colleges.

Which college should I prefer, RVCE (CS branch) or lower IIITs like Kota and Vadodara (CS branch)?

RA
Rohit Agrawal Posted On : April 8th, 2021
B.E. from RV College of Engineering

Since my sister studied at RVCE, I can give you information about it.

Placement:

  • RVCE provides a lot of placement opportunities. If you score decently, you can easily get a double-digit package job in the campus placement.
  • Placement season starts from July till November, where all the good companies with good opportunities come for placement. However, you can expect placement opportunities in your last semester also.
  • These companies offer the lowest packages of 3-4 LPA. Thus, RVCE CSE is definitely good in terms of placements.

Academics:

  • The faculties are not of top quality and hence, the academic quality.
  • You will have to practice self-study if you really want to have good knowledge of the subjects.

Exam Pattern: You will definitely score more than or equal to 90% if you solve 3-4 previous years semester endpapers.

Not commenting anything on lower IIITs since I don’t have much knowledge about it. But, if given a chance to join any RVCE or any lower IIIT like Kota or Vadodara, I would always go for RVCE.

SM
Subhashree Mukharjee Posted On : April 21st, 2021
Studied BIT Mesra (2019)

BIT Mesra offers good placements to CSE/IT students.

2020 Placement Statistics:

  • The average package for this particular branch is 10 LPA.
  • The highest package offered to the students of CSE/IT students was around 49 LPA.
  • The primary recruiters here are the IT-based big giants such as Wipro, TCS, Infosys, etc.
  • A couple of tier 2 software companies offer 4-9 LPA (Oracle, SAP Labs, MuSigma).
  • The placement average for this branch is around 80% and almost 30% of students get internship offers after completing their 3rd year.

Apart from the good placement statistics, there are a number of other benefits of pursuing CSE/IT at BIT Mesra such as online/virtual coding competitions held every day, internships from the second year itself, paid internships in the third year too, and a strong alumni base.

Which is better for the future: PEC civil or UIET Chandigarh CS?

SD
Sneha Diwan Posted On : May 5th, 2021
B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh (2020)

The choice must be done purely based on your interest. If you are not that interested in coding and if you take a lot of time to understand the core language, there is no point in opting CS even if it's in high demand. Once you enjoy what you are learning you will succeed in your job position. Otherwise, there is no point in being hung up in a course which you don't enjoy and for four years or even for the rest of your life.

Quick stats 2021:

Particulars

PEC (Civil)

UIET Chandigarh (CS)

Entrance exam

JEE Main

JEE Main

Cut-off

13882-27254

945 - 46660

Total fees

6.39 lakh

82,197 (1st year)

Placement rate

80%

85%

Highest CTC offered

45 LPA

30 LPA

Average CTC offered

6-7 LPA

7 LPA

If you don't have a specific preference and you are okay with either CS or civil, then clearly assess college reputation, placement stats, and other opportunities in the respective fields which are briefed out below.

  • Both PEC Chandigarh and UIET offer 24/7 high-speed internet facilities at both academic blocks and hostels. Academic blocks are fully air-conditioned.
  • Labs are fully equipped with hi-tech equipment. Libraries are up-to-date with new books of international standards.
  • Food at hostels is pretty good and you can even opt for off-campus housing facilities. Both of these universities give priority to sports.
  • Both of them organize certain tech fests out of which 'PECfest' of PEC and 'Avishkar' of UIET are quite popular.

As a branch CSE is on top when compared to Civil. But when you compare PEC and UIET, PEC has an upper hand. Set your priorities straight and opt for the best college for you.
