How good is IIM Shillong's PGPEX programme and how good are its placements?
My brother received an interview call from IIM Shillong for their PGPEX program. This was a few years back. He wanted to join the course because he felt it would be beneficial for his corporate career. The teaching model at IIM Shillong focuses on developing Asian economies like China.
The PGPEX is comparatively affordable at IIM Shillong, compared to other management schools. But the top management schools host international teachers as visiting faculty for their courses.
Now here is the catch. The placements of IIM Shillong are entirely student driven. My brother reached out to a faculty member who was clear that the college offers its students a platform, but it can’t guarantee placements. During placements your entire profile will get you an offer, not just your ‘IIM Shillong’ tag.
After careful consideration, my brother decided to not opt for PGPEX at IIM Shillong.
How good is the PGPEx program at IIM Shillong?
There is often a misunderstanding about placements at IIMs after course completion. It is important to understand that placements are entirely student-driven and depend on the individual's efforts and abilities. Many PGPEX programs at IIMs have a significant number of students from IT services, and these students may not be as diversified or knowledgeable about other industry segments. This can create a gap between the companies and the students and may result in a lower placement rate for some students.
Unfortunately, many students who enroll in PGPEX programs do so based on their academic profiles or high scores on entrance exams, rather than their knowledge or experience in other industries. As a result, students who come from non-IT backgrounds may be more successful in securing placements due to their diverse understanding of general management. This is a common issue at all IIMs, and even IIM-L and IIM-I are taking steps to reduce these risks.
How is the IIM Ahmedabad executive MBA program different from the IIM Ahmedabad MBA program?
PGPX and PGPM are tailored for two different kinds of groups.Here are some differences and similarities between these two programs offered by IIM Ahmedabad-
- Profile- The PGPX crowd is quite diverse. Students of PGPX have a high work experience (an average of 7 years). PGPM students have an experience of around 2.5 to 3 years on an average.
- Duration- PGPX lasts for 1 year while PGPM lasts for 2.
- Faculty- The teaching staff is the same for both programs.
- Courses- A few PGPX courses can be taken by PGPM students, but not the other way around.
- Teaching method- PGPX is based on interaction while PGPM is instruction-based.
- Focus- The PGPX course is more focused in nature. This is because working professionals with such high experience know about their goals and ambitions.
If you have more than 6 years of work experience, PGPX is a better choice. Otherwise, opt for PGPM.
Is the IIM Udaipur PGPX Program (MBA+MS) from udaipur and Purdue in supply chain management worth the investment?
A Supply Chain Management course offered by IIM Udaipur has recently gained popularity among professionals interested in the field. It is a fantastic course that provides students with a variety of benefits.
One of the key features that drew students to this course was its 15-month program. Time is regarded as a valuable asset, and the program's shorter duration means students will experience less opportunity loss. Furthermore, the course offers a dual degree, allowing students to obtain an MBA and an MS degree from two of India's and the United States' top universities. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that is rarely available in other courses.
The faculty is also an important aspect of the course. Purdue University and IIM Udaipur are both well-known for having some of the best mentors and faculty members in the field. The education that students will receive is expected to be of exceptional quality.
The course may not be as strong in terms of placement as programs offered by NITIE or IIM A, B, and C, but this also depends on the student profile. Despite this, student placement opportunities are still considered adequate. Furthermore, during their one semester in the United States, students will have the opportunity to network with professionals from both India and the United States, which may lead to overseas job opportunities for students who are interested in working abroad.
The investment in a college like this, which costs around 30 lakhs, will take time to pay off, but this course is highly recommended for professionals who want to change fields or have low earning potential in their current job/profile.
Comparing IIM Bangalore and Great Lakes, which would be a better option to go for an executive business analytics course?
For an Executive Business Analytics course, Grate Lakes will be a better option. The course structure is flexible and incorporates the requirement of working professionals. The course is delivered through a balanced blend of classroom teaching and online sessions.
The curriculum is rigorous and covers topics from fundamentals to expert level. Great Lakes Business Analytics course focuses on imparting domain knowledge using Analytics techniques from fundamental to advanced levels through R and Python. Evaluation is done through quizzes, assignments, and capstone project.
Great Lakes faculty includes prominent names such as Dr. Abhinanda Sarkar (Standford alumni), and Dr. P K Viswanathan (Ph.D. from Madras University).
In terms of academics and resources, Great Lakes Business Analytics course is among the best in the country.
Is MDI GURGAON a good option for an MBA executive program?
MDI Gurgaon is a great choice for an executive MBA program and is at par with other top-tier schools like IIM A, B, C, L, IIFT, FMS, XLRI, and IIT Delhi DMS. The 3-year executive MBA program for working professionals is extremely good, with the same course and faculty as that of the full-time one-year executive MBA and two-year full-time residential MBA program. It's an excellent institute and is even better than some of the newer IIMs.
However, it's important to note that the fees for the 3-year executive MBA program at MDI Gurgaon have increased enormously over the last few years and are almost 10 lakhs. If you're looking for other options, IIM Lucknow's Noida campus also offers a similar 3-year executive MBA program with fees of Rs 10 lakhs, and classes are held on weekends and weekdays.
IIFT Delhi is another option that offers a similar 3-year executive MBA program with fees of Rs 6.5 lakhs and classes on weekends. IIT Delhi also offers a similar 3-year executive MBA program with fees of Rs 4.10 lakhs, with classes on weekdays. FMS Executive MBA has fees of Rs 1 lakh only.
It's important to choose your education loan wisely, especially when considering the high fees for some of these programs. Make sure to do your research and compare the options before making a decision.
How is the new IPMX program of IIM Lucknow?
IPMX is the flagship program of the IIM Lucknow Noida campus. It is a one-year residential program designed for mid/senior-level professionals and aims to help them prepare them for leadership roles.
Admission:
- The prerequisite for this program is a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks and at least 5 years of full-time managerial experience.
- Candidates are shortlisted for admission based on their GMAT score. The final selection of the program is done through a written ability test and personal interview conducted by the institute.
- The course fee of IPMAX for the academic year 2020-21 is INR 23,50,000.
Infrastructure:
The Noida campus has excellent faculty and good infrastructure. With a diverse pool of students, the IIML IPMX program provides an excellent peer-learning process. The IPMAX program currently has an alumni base of over 500.
Placement:
In 2019, IPMAX students witnessed almost 100% placement. The average CTC was around 20 LPA and the median CTC was 18 LPA.

Should I join IIM Indore's one-year MBA course (EPGP) or continue working, given the bad placement scenario for the course? Or should I try for better colleges in India?
The placement opportunities for an Executive MBA at IIM Indore or In fact any other IIM are very limited. They depend on the batch itself and may be good or bad depending on the current batch profile and expectations. Moreover, people don’t pursue EMBA to get placed in a high salary package. They already have a job with a high package. What they are looking for is an enhancement of their managerial skills and the IIM tag.
So I will not recommend you leave your high-paying job and pursue EMBA especially if you are looking for a better CTC. Not even other B Schools will get you a high package right off the bat. But if you are still adamant about pursuing the program you may take a study leave I suggest.
An MBA helps you in the long run and not instantly. You should be willing to take the risk for maximum results.
