Yes, IIT Delhi MTech Machine Design students do get placed with decent roles and packages. In fact, after IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi is the most preferred IIT for students mailing to get enrolled in the MTech program. The 2 main reasons for this are listed below:

- C programming is also a part of the course

In all engineering colleges, BTech students are given more preference than MTech students because they can do the job at a lesser salary than MTech students. Moreover, they are more in number and are ready to grab any role whatsoever. MTech students on the other hand prefer core jobs that align with their academic profile and specific interests. So the placement opportunities offered to Masters students are less. Mostly, they have two options to choose from, academia or corporate.
- Academics: Many institutes offer teaching positions to master students either as a college professor or for the role of an instructor at an Entrance Exam preparation institute, Master students of the Thermal branch are eligible for these roles.

NITK offers a great research culture that instills all the necessary skills. The placements are unpredictable though. Ultimately I will advise you to opt for a Master’s degree only if you are really interested in getting a specialization degree because there is no guarantee you’ll get a job in the end.

The MTech at IIT Kanpur is a research-oriented program. Most of the professors can be seen engrossed in research work and they encourage the students to do the same. There are 3 branches of Mechanical
- Design
- Manufacturing
- Fluid mechanics and thermal science
The placement scenario of MTech in Mechanical Engineering is average with enough opportunities in the core sector.
IIT Kanpur provides you with the necessary amenities to conduct quality research under the mentorship of experienced professors. Many students opt for Ph.D. from foreign universities after completing their MTech. So the program is a good choice for a prospective researcher.
Do IIT Guwahati M.Tech (computational mechanics) students get placed?
Yes, students of IIT Guwahati MTech Computational Mechanics get placed in both core and non-core companies with decent packages. Being one of the oldest and most highly reputed IITs, it has high credibility and will fetch you Ph.D. interviews much more easily. Additionally, IIT Guwahati also offers immense exposure through foreign exchange programs. IIT Guwahati has collaborations with various reputed universities and can be preferred over NITs.
However, if it's the jobs you are after, then NIT is a better option as it’s more accessible to employers. Still, IIT Guwahati will always be my first preference. Be it a job or higher education, IITs always give an edge to other engineering institutes.
How is an M.Tech in mechanical placement at IIT Bhubaneswar?
IIT Bhubaneswar is part of new IITs that were established by the government. Even though the Institute is new the placements of IIT Bhubaneswar are good and rising in an exponential manner. In 2019, the placement rate for M-Tech was 69% and for Mechanical Engineering, it was 83%. Maximum placements offer for MTech students were received from Core and PSU sectors. ISRO, NCCBM, IOCL, etc are a few of the PSUs that took part in the placement drive. The average CTC offered was 11.4 LPA. The academics are also good for Mechanical Engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar. The faculty and staff of the mechanical department in IIT Bhubaneswar are excellent and its workshop is well equipped with all modern machines and technical instruments.
