Which is better for ug university college of medical sciences (ucms) or vmmc?
As a student of UCMS, I will try to enlighten you about my college.
- Location- It is true that UCMS is located in the periphery of Delhi, and its surrounding is not as developed as that of VMMC. Regardless, the location of UCMS offers most of the facilities required for a good college life. You can access Cinepolis, PVR and Big Cinemas from here, reach CP in 20-30 minutes by metro/private vehicle, and catch a metro from Jhilmil metro station to explore Delhi/NCR.
- Campus- UCMS has a beautiful campus, the best among Delhi medical colleges. It has a huge central field where you can play cricket, basketball, football, etc. Boys get single seater hostel rooms from the first year itself. The campus has two 24*7 canteens, a book shop from where you can access all your medical books, an ATM, and a post office.The hospital has undergone renovation, and looks new and well managed.
- Academics- UCMS offers excellent academics. The faculty is skilled and teaches with sincerity. The Histology Lab in the Anatomy department is really good.
- Extracurriculars- UCMS has a sports society, a western dance team, a theme choreography team, a dramatics team, a musical society, a literary society and a medical education unit. You can join any of these.
According to me, both UCMS and VMMS are good medical colleges. You can choose the latter if location is a concern to you, otherwise, UCMS is a good choice too.
What are the pros and cons of doing an MBBS at JIPMER in Puducherry?
Here are a few pros and cons of pursuing MBBS from JIPMER
Pros-
- You will meet some highly experienced doctors who will be your professors too. You will be amazed by their nature, their dealing with patience, and their motivating nature. You will start respecting them from the bottom of your hearts.
- You will be given the opportunity to take part in different procedures in neonatal resuscitation or the Pediatrics department. The residents are very helpful given that you are keen to learn.
- Pondicherry is a safe place for both boys and girls. You will experience a unique kind of freedom here. Girls stay out till 9-9:30 pm alone and dont face any issues at all.
- Pondicherry is a clean and pollution-free city that offers fresh breathable air.
- You will be away from the hustle and bustle of city life and get to experience a slow life. You get a lot of time to ponder upon the challenges life throws at you.
Cons
- North Indians might face language issues to a certain extent.
- Pondicherry does not have online delivery services like Swiggy, Big Basket, and Food Panda.
- There isn't any decent shopping place here. There is only Pothys which is only known for sarees and suits.
- There is no good bookstore near the campus for fictional books.
Overall, studying at JIPMER is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that shouldn't be underestimated at any cost.
How is Jolly Grant medical college for MBBS?
The name is Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS). Jolly Grant is the place where it is situated. It is adjacent to the airport.
- It is the best private medical college in North India and it has maintained its reputation.
- The campus is like a resort surrounded with greenery.
- The Infrastructure is great and very well maintained.
- Every speciality of medical science is well established here.
- Being the largest hospital in Uttrakhand after AIIMS Rishikesh, it has a huge patient load.
- The faculty is good and dedicated to their work and teaching.
- There are lots of places around like Mussoorie and Rishikesh to visit during your free time.
- People used to living in metro cities may find it less interesting. But it is a calming and quiet place, far from the hustle and bustle of city life.
If you want to learn and acquire good knowledge and experience, you should opt for HIMS. If you prefer a city life then opt for other institutions.
Which college is better for an MBBS: the MAMC or VMMC?
Usually MAMC is the first choice of aspirants. But, a good number of students choose VMMC over MAMC despite getting really high ranks, and having a Delhi state quota. The reasons for this decision are-
- VMMC is much newer than MAMC, UCMS and LHMC. Thus, it offers a modern and fully air-conditioned infrastructure.
- Workload for the first 1-2 years is much lighter.

- VMMC is located in the heart of South Delhi. The best hangout spots like HKV, Dilli Haat, Promenade are all located at a close distance. SN market and South Ex are just 5 minute drive away.
Thus, I would recommend you choose VMMC for your MBBS degree.

KMC Manipal (Kasturba Medical College, Manipal):
- older and more established (est. 1953), stronger brand recognition nationally and internationally
- large campus, Manipal town has a full student ecosystem with multiple colleges
- more competitive cutoff — general category NEET cutoff ~600+
- better research infrastructure, more publications and funded projects
KMC Mangalore (Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore):
- also a strong college, affiliated to Manipal Academy of Higher Education
- city location in Mangalore — excellent hospital (AJ Institute + Wenlock govt hospital nearby), good clinical variety
- slightly lower cutoff than KMC Manipal — more accessible option
- smaller campus feel compared to Manipal, but genuine advantages of a city location
for pure brand and research, KMC Manipal wins. for clinical exposure in a city setting with slightly easier admission, KMC Mangalore is a very respectable choice. if you're getting KMC Manipal — take it. if you're choosing between KMC Mangalore and other unknown private colleges, go Mangalore without second thought.
Do students of AIIMS Delhi get opportunity to go to US UK during MBBS?
yes, AIIMS Delhi students do get opportunities to go to US/UK during MBBS — but the reality is a bit more complicated than it sounds.
- ICMR research grants: if you do solid research and get it approved by ICMR, the trip is fully funded. this is the best route. but you need actual research output, not just applying randomly
- Self-funded electives: Oxford, Hopkins, Harvard all have elective programs open to AIIMS students. most students who go this route pay out of pocket. AIIMS administration actually discourages it since it means missing classes, but students manage it during vacations or by getting internship extended later
- Formal exchange programs: AIIMS has MoUs with Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Yale, Oxford. spots are limited and selection is competitive — academic performance and research experience matter a lot
real talk — most AIIMS students are genuinely too busy during MBBS to go abroad. the ones who do are usually research-oriented or from very well-off families who can self-fund. if you're planning post-MBBS though, AIIMS is a great launchpad for USMLE (US medical licensing) and UK PLAB prep — the brand carries serious weight internationally.

VMMC offers two kinds of MBBS seats- Subsidized and Non Subsidized.
The annual fee for subsidized seats is around Rs. 37,000. On the other hand, for non-subsidized seats, it is around 1.25 Lakhs. The internship stipend is around Rs 26,300 per month.

How is the girl's hostel of (MBBS) JIPMER?
A close friend of mine shared a few pictures of her hostel room at JIPMER. This is Curie 1 and the little garden attached to it. My friend enjoyed staying at Curie 1 more than Curie 2 because the life here was more vibrant.
