Yes, it is mandatory that you choose to live in the hostel during the course period at National Law University (NLU), Delhi. Most essentially, NLU Delhi offers a personal residential campus wherein students are expected to stay while pursuing their courses.
However, there are times that you can otherwise choose not to stay full-time in the hostel of NLU Delhi. It is only in certain distinct circumstances that students are permitted to be day-scholar. You will need permission from the administration for the same.
My elder sister is from this institute, so I think I can answer your question.
Legal Methods is the most difficult of the five subjects you'll study in the first semester. It covers a wide range of issues, including summary writing, finding ratio and obiter dictum, and legislative interpretation. You can read the article “The Case of the Speluncean Explorers” if you want. It's pointless to read the other materials before attending college lectures because the paper is purely application-based. Every year, entirely new excerpts are picked up for the paper.
You can read the first 3–4 chapters of Ratanlal and Dhirajlal for Torts. After a few lectures, you'll figure out the rest.
The syllabus for the other disciplines is primarily lecture and module-based, so there's no use in doing anything ahead of time. However, for Pol Sc, any material on theorists such as Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau would be helpful.
Comparing any institute among NLISU, NALSAR, and NUJS is not an easy task. Moreover, all the colleges are good but there are some pros and cons seen in every institution.
NLU Delhi has surpassed NUJS, but it is yet to catch up with NALSAR or NLS. The reasons are quite straightforward.
The first two batches of NLU Delhi have secured amazing placements and showed tremendous growth.Even though it is true that current placement numbers show that NUJS has an edge, the vital reason behind this is that the batch size was a handful too.
Secondly, Delhi has an upper hand in its location. It is near to many corporate houses and IT firms. Students can go for training and internships there. It is a preferred destination for education for most North Indian students, who form the bulk of CLAT takers.
On the other hand, if you see, Calcutta is not really a dynamic city anymore; rather, it has become static. Thus, most people who would get NLUD and NUJS would naturally lean toward NLUD.
There should not be any confusion before choosing between the both since the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore is one the leading universities in India. It has a broad alumni network spread all over the world. Here is a brief outline of the institute.

NLSIU, Bangalore offers great exposure. Becoming a part of such a renowned institute and its legacy is in itself a great opportunity. So, given the chance, choose NLSIU without any second thought.
It basically depends on two factors which are as follows:
However, the cut-off range mostly depends on the marks scored by the toppers.
Although AILET is more difficult than CLAT, this does not imply that NLU Delhi is better than NLS.
If you look at the placement reports of both these colleges, NLS has done significantly better than NLUD. The weather is also a big influence here; Bangalore has a pleasant environment, but for Delhi, the weather conditions may become a bit harsh for some times especially during summers.

One of my friends graduated from NLU Delhi and also after checking the reviews online, I can share these details about the hostels, which might be useful for you.
Do keep in mind that a single occupancy hostel room here, only means a bed, a table and chair, a wardrobe, and electrical plug points and implements. No separate bathroom or anything of the sort is facilitated.
NLU Delhi is better than GLC Mumbai. It is among the top law colleges in the country.

The main difference between NLU Delhi and other NLUs is the entrance examination. The other NLUs take admission through CLAT. NLU Delhi has a separate examination for admission which is AILET. NLU Delhi AILET Cutoff 2021 for the BALLB course was 77 (General). The AILET 2021 cutoff for LLM was 38 (General).
