What is the best choice for distance learning PGDM, NMIMS or Symbiosis?

SM
Shruti Mishra Posted On : July 7th, 2021
PGDM from Tolani Institute of Management Studies (2018)

Symbiosis is one of the prominently known universities for full-time PGDM whereas, NMIMS is the university best for distance learning PGDM. One of my friends is studying at NMIMS and his overall experience of this college was nice.

Symbiosis provides a degree from SCDL and it isn’t recognized by any government board. Whereas, NMIMS is recognized by UGC and NAAC.

NMIMS has a proper examination center plus information centers. On the other hand, Symbiosis doesn’t have any information center.

NMIMS also provides great help to students with the following.

  • Online lectures with Live recordings.
  • Course books with extra materials to read or reference materials.
  • Books and access to e-resources from Digital libraries.
  • Assignments, Mock Tests, and Model answers.
  • Research databases, eBooks databases, and electronic journals.

Hence, NMIMS is a better choice for distance learning than Symbiosis.

What are the eligibility requirements to get admission to NMIMS Mumbai for a BBA Do academic marks affect the admission process?

AG
Asutose Ghose Posted On : April 29th, 2023
studied BBA (Finance), NMIMS, 2016

To be eligible for admission to the BBA program at NMIMS Mumbai, a candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in any stream from a recognized board. In addition, the candidate must have passed English as a compulsory subject in the 10+2 or equivalent examination.

The admission process includes a written test called the NMIMS NPAT, which assesses the candidate's language abilities, maths skills, logical thinking ability, and academic eligibility standards. A personal interview round may also evaluate the candidate's communication skills, confidence, and personality.

Academic marks are essential in the admissions process since they are used to shortlist candidates for subsequent rounds of the admissions process. Other aspects, such as the candidate's success in the NPAT, personal interviews, and extracurricular activities, are also considered in the final decision.

Will more than 36 months of IT work experience prove to be a roadblock for getting a good marketing profile and B-school placement after an MBA/PGDM at the IMT in Ghaziabad or NMIMS?

This should probably not affect you as most good B-schools have a career-first mindset. On the other hand, a few recruiters might have a different mindset where this could be a drawback.

But, you can also change perceptions during interviews after you have proved your capabilities in screening tests. With your experience, you might have already handled a few projects in your field. This means that you probably are well aware of how basic operations in carried out in industries you worked with. You can definitely talk about this in your interview.

Other than this, you can also talk about improved manners of execution and your point of view when it comes to product development. This should surely work in your favor. Other than this, you can also apply some of the management techniques that you will learn in your 2-year course.

After your MBA you will possibly be expected to give your opinions at the ground level because, at this point, you are on the intellectual side as compared to the executor side. This is where people with more work experience are valued because your previous experience will come in handy.

Just focus on working hard and you will definitely succeed.

Which is better: NMIMS Mumbai or Fergusson Pune?

AD
Aditi Deshpande Posted On : June 6th, 2023
Lives in Pune,Maharashtra

NMIMS Mumbai is famous for its best Management courses and its world-class education system. The NMIMS method has always been to innovate and develop educational programs that meet the needs of the industry and society. The goal of NMIMS has always been to improve the employability of graduates.

Fergusson College, Pune was set up for functioning in the year 1895 by the Deccan Education Society. It is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University. This nation-building institution provides a plethora of degree courses at both, UG and PG levels. Apart from the degree courses, the college also offers special courses, vocational courses, certificate courses, and Ph.D. programs for students.

The academic programs offered by the college at UG level are B.A. in 15 subjects and B.Sc. in 13 subjects all under Arts and Science faculty.

Now the comparable courses for NMIMS and Fergusson are BSc Economics from NMIMS and BA Economics from Fergusson.

If you're looking for placements after graduation, NMIMS is the better of the two. But if placements are not a criterion, choose Ferguson as it has a better crowd, campus life, and environment.

As Fergusson College is older, it has more respect in society and a stronger alumni network.

You can join NMIMS if you are looking for quality education and placements but join Ferguson if you want a relatively laid-back college life.

Which college would be better for Finance, IMT Ghaziabad or NMIMS?

SK
Singdhanjan Kar Posted On : July 29th, 2021
MBA BM, XLRI (2018)

If you are aiming for a finance profile, then you should go for NMIMS Mumbai any day without a doubt. There are various reasons for the same. Some of which are as follows.

  • Batch Size - NMIMS Mumbai has a smaller batch size than IMT Ghaziabad. A smaller batch size always helps especially during placements.
  • Location - Mumbai is the financial capital of India and thus many companies have their offices here. So it will be easy for you to get internships and other industry relationships.
  • Placements - The final placements are of much better quality and the profiles offered are also quite good. The average CTC offered at the institute is around 17 LPA.
  • Faculty - The finance professors are also quite good here.

So I think that NMIMS Mumbai will be the college you should choose if you are interested in finance.

I’m getting admission in NMIMS Mumbai for an MBA. Should I do an MIM/master’s or science in management from a decent university in Canada/Australia/the UK?

AJ

You can do two things:

  1. Get into NMIMS Mumbai for an MBA, MIM, or MS from a good university abroad.
  2. There are many things you should think about and answer for yourself:

If I want to live and work in India or somewhere else.

You won't be able to get an internship abroad from NMIMS because there are roles/jobs available. So, if you want to work outside of India, you should get either a MIM or an MS. In that country, it's easy to get a job.

Suppose you get a job in X County. There is a good chance that everyday costs will be higher than in India. The best part is that after you get some training, you can go back to India whenever you want. People who work outside of India have a global view because they work in different places and meet people from different countries and with different values. This means that you will also bring your new way of thinking to the company you will be joining in India. You can help businesses that want to grow internationally or get to know their customers from other countries.

How much of the risk are you ready to take?

The cost of an MBA at NMIMS would be between 25 and 27 lakhs. And the interest rate on school loans in India is between 8 and 10% right now. And the average deal is around 24 lakhs, which means you can easily pay off the loan in 3–4 years.

For MS, you would need at least 45 lakhs plus some extra money for other things that could go wrong. Placements will depend on where you go to college, so you should look into that. Then you can see with your own eyes how many years it will take to pay back the loan.

How hard is it to get admission to NMIMS?

SM
Sunanda Mukhajee Posted On : June 15th, 2022
PGDM in Post Graduate Diploma in Management & Business Management, SVKM's NMIMS (2019)

Getting into NMIMS is not that difficult but it’s not easy either. NMIMS Mumbai cutoff 2022 was 210-250. As it is the oldest campus the cutoff is high. The required cutoff is lower for other campuses of NMIMS.

The selection process of NMIMS includes NMAT, and CD-PI. NMAT is a basic level examination, and you can score well with strategic preparation. The topics for CD are mostly generaic and not too complicated. The PI round can be challenging. The panelists are highly experienced, so you need to prepare accordingly.
