How is IEM CSE? How are the placements and faculties?

AR
Arnav Roy Posted On : June 23rd, 2023
Lives in Kolkata, West Bengal, India

The placement scenario for IEM CSE can be evaluated on the basis of placement percentage and average or median salary. IEM Kolkata maintains a good placement record over the years and every year many students get placed through its efficient placement drive. IES placements 2021 statistics are mentioned IMT in the table below

Total graduating students

1016

Number of students placed

813

Number of students opted out

91

Median salary

INR 10.50 LPA

The faculty is a mixed pool, some extremely good while some very inefficient. Most students prefer self-studying or seeking help from seniors rather than approaching professors.

The fees are a bit higher than government colleges like MAKAUT Main, Ceramic Tech, Kalyani Govt, etc. IEM first-year fees for the BTech program are ?1.78 Lakhs. The high fees do not translate to high-paying jobs here so the ROI will be very low.

Some other minor flaws are the lack of greenery and the uniform compulsion.

Here, everything depends on your skills and dedication. So adopt a positive mindset, and study well so that you can clear entrances like GATE, GRE, CAT, or GMAT. You cannot be solely dependent on college for shaping your career!

Which is better, a CSE at IIIT Delhi or an MCE at DTU?

SM
Sagarika Mukherjee Posted On : October 4th, 2023
B.Tech from Delhi Technological University

As a third year student of MCE at DTU, I can only tell you about my college and branch-

  1. The curriculum of MCE is a mixture of Mathematics, Computer Science and Finance.
  2. This branch will equip you for a career in three fields.
  3. The focus is more on Mathematics, but CS is an important part.
  4. MCE offers good placements. Graduates get job offers from top brands like Amazon, Flipkart, etc. MCE gives competition to well-established branches like CoE, IT, SE, etc. in this aspect.
  5. DTU is a well-recognized institution with a strong alumni network. More than 250 companies visit the campus every year during the placement season.
  6. Mathematics faculty is top-notch, while CS faculty is average.

If you want to focus solely on programming, choose CSE at IIIT Delhi. MCE offers programming knowledge alongside advanced Mathematical studies. It will help you design and understand really complex solutions.

At the end, the choice must be based on your personal preference.

How would people compare a 4 year B.Tech in CSE vs a 5 year B.Tech+M.Tech (dual-degree) in CS at NIT-Rourkela?

AB

There are common misconceptions and doubts in the minds of students and their parents regarding dual degree programs. People think that low rankers generally opt for a dual degree and placements are not good for DD programs. There is a common fear that dual degree students are neglected by the administration. It is believed to be better to opt for your M.Tech from an IIT. Most people end up choosing B.Tech instead of a dual degree, even if NIT Rourkela or some other top NIT/ IIT is offering this program.

However, here are some facts to erase these doubts and fears from your mind regarding a dual degree from NIT Rourkela, or any other institution-

  1. Even as a Ph.D./M.Tech student, you will have plenty of placement opportunities. You might even get a better offer than a B.Tech candidate if you possess a better skill set.
  2. Getting into an IIT for M.Tech is quite tough because clearing GATE/GRE with a good rank is a challenging task.
  3. An integrated course will save you a year which you can use to develop your managerial or other skills/ to acquire experience. The IIT tag is important, however, with the right skill set and plenty of experience at your back, people won’t really bother about your college tag.
  4. Well-established IITs and R&D firms prefer dual degree holders.

Thus, you should definitely go for a dual degree at NIT Rourkela instead of harboring useless doubts and fears about your choice.

How good is the NIT Delhi for CSE?

YM

NIT Delhi CSE is highly regarded among engineering aspirants mainly because its curriculum has been updated recently to meet industry standards. They are always way ahead of their counterparts in other colleges. The best part is that their rigorous academics do not affect their extracurricular activities.

The faculty of the CSE branch is very lenient and approachable. CSE labs are equipped with the essential software. The placement scenario is great and almost everybody ends with more than one offer. Many huge firms like BookMyShow, Smartprix, Samsung, and Deloitte offer great packages to CSE students.

So, NIT Delhi CSE is a great choice for you!

How can I join NIET Noida for CSE?

NJ
Nikita Jain Posted On : May 17th, 2021
B.Tech from NIET Noida

For NIET there are a total of 2 admission procedures which are as follows.

On-campus:

Visit the campus with your academic transcripts, i.e mark sheets of 1oth, 12th, etc. Let the officials know that you are interested in taking admission for CSE. You may have to take a test to do so. These tests are usually quite easy. Also, just a tip I got from my friends at the institute that good communication skills in English go a long way there.

College Counseling:

Clear a competitive examination, like AIEEE, UPTU with good rank and choose the institute for counseling. You can also select the college based on your Mains score.

Here is the required UPSEE cutoff for CSE in recent years.

Should I take CSE in UIET CSJM Kanpur or drop?

AS
Ankita Shestha Posted On : October 20th, 2021
Studied B.E from Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (2020)

You should choose the branch as per your choice and interest. It would be advised to not choose CSE just because it is the highest-paid.

Secondly, if you are pursuing CSE, you will need a laptop with a good internet connection. You cannot always be dependent on labs. You can also join online courses offered by CODING BLOCK, CODING NINJAS, EDx, MIT, and many other MOOCs to get good at programming.

It is not necessary to always look for a brand tag if you really believe in yourself especially when you are studying CSE. Placement opportunities are available in reputed companies such as Google, Amazon, and many more by your skills in the definite field.

Which is better, IIT Delhi Textile Technology or NIT Delhi CSE (considering I have a very high interest in programming)?

YM
Yash Mehra Posted On : April 10th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Delhi

Both institutes are well known for their excellent education and opportunities offered. So you can choose the branch and college on the basis of your own preferences. However, some points you might want or consider

Campus: NIT Delhi operates from a temporary campus which is located far away from the country and its permanent campus is still under construction. IIT Delhi on the other hand is a fully-fledged established Institute with a fully functioning well facilitated campus.

Placements: Although Textile Engineering has very few core job opportunities, people tend to go for non-core jobs instead to secure a high-paying job at a top company. Meanwhile, NIT Delhi being younger than IIT Delhi has fewer companies visiting campus with CS roles despite being a demanded branch.

If you are actually keen to pursue CSE, go for better Engineering colleges like NITs, DTU, NSIT, and IIIT D. In fact even at IIT Delhi, you can pursue your coding passion alongside your main branch textile and sit for IT placements. The final decision is yours to make and you can consider additional aspects like fees, location, and academics while making your decision.

Which option should I choose, Jadavpur University CSE or NIT Durgapur CSE?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : September 7th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Here are some key points about both colleges which will help you in your decision-making-

  • Campus Life- The campus life at NIT Durgapur is much better. You’ll get ample freedom to play sports, to party, etc. You can do everything on campus, at all hours. The senior-junior and peer-to-peer bonding is great over here. There is relatively more cultural diversity in the NIT Durgapur campus.
  • Academics- The CSE department of NIT Durgapur isn’t good. If you are serious about academics and quality education, NIT Durgapur CSE isn’t a good choice. The quality of research is very poor, apart from the DST-FIST project. Have a look at the faculty profile of both institutions to get a clearer picture.
  • Placements - On ground level, CSE placements are better at JU. For a smaller number of students, it receives the same number of companies during campus placements. Also, bigshots offering high packages visit the JU campus exclusively.
  • Startups - NIT Durgapur doesn’t provide many opportunities for startups/entrepreneurship.
  • Higher studies - Both are at par if you wish to pursue higher studies in India. However, for foreign colleges/universities, an NIT tag will be more advantageous.
  • ROI- The ROI for JU is much higher. This is because its tuition fees are much more affordable.

According to me, a CSE from Jadavpur University is a better option.

Is it better to take CSE at NIT Surathkal or mechanical engineering at IIT-KGP?

AR
Aditi Roy Posted On : September 15th, 2023
lives in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India

The answer to this question depends mainly on your interest. Mechanical and CSE are diverse branches with diverse scopes. You need to analyze your own inclination only then can you make a sound decision. If you aren’t sure if the branch you can decide based on your future goals.

  • If you want to land a job right after graduation that too a decent package, choose CSE over Mechanical because that branch has more job opportunities.
  • If you are planning to pursue higher studies, especially in Physics-related courses, choose Mechanical. The branch is very intriguing and opens many doors to higher studies.
  • If you value colleges over branches then choose IIT KGP as it’s way ahead of NIT Surathkal.

Lastly, I will advise you to opt for Mechanical only in first and second-generation IITs. So you can opt for NIT Surathkal or Trichy over third-generation IITs but not over first and second-generation IITs. Hope this clears my point.

How is CSE in NIT Delhi compared to CSE in PEC?

MA
Madhav Aneja Posted On : October 11th, 2023
Lived in Chandigarh, India

I will advise you not to compare colleges solely on the basis of rankings and placements because these are too trivial criteria to be considered while choosing your college. One must look at the bigger picture. NIT Delhi, despite being a new institute, has already laid its strong foundation and you can expect excellent placements in the near future.

Here are a few highlights of the institute:

  • Placements: NIT Delhi has an active placement cell that ensures that every student has at least one offer by the end of the placement drive.
  • Campus: The campus has limited facilities but provides enough facilities to ensure good quality education. Students have access to wifi facilities 24/7.
  • Ranking: Don’t let the low rankings mislead you. These ranking bodies consider criteria like campus, branches, alumni, etc which NIT Delhi definitely lacks in because it's new.

Overall, NIT Delhi offers good quality education and a NIT tag that will up your game in higher education.
