Should I go for B.Tech Electrical Engineering in MNNIT Allahabad or B.Tech Metallurgical and Materials Engineering in NIT Surathkal?

I
InfiniteIdler Posted On : April 8th, 2026

If you're looking for strong placements and an excellent coding culture, MNNIT Allahabad definitely stands out, especially for Electrical Engineering, where the internship opportunities and placement records are impressive. However, if you're leaning towards Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at NIT Surathkal, keep in mind that while it may not have as strong a placement record, the campus life and faculty might offer a more enriching experience. The faculty-student ratio at MNNIT could be better, and the campus life is pretty standard, while I'm not sure about NIT Surathkal's specifics. Personally, I would go for MNNIT Allahabad for the placements and coding environment, especially if you're inclined towards tech roles, but NIT Surathkal could be a good fit if you're more interested in a balanced academic and campus experience.

Should I go for B.Tech Instrumentation & Control Engineering in NIT Trichy or B.Tech Artificial Intelligence in NIT Surathkal?

E
EnigmaticEye Posted On : March 30th, 2026

Hi...Ok...so Instrumentation and Control Engineering is a unique, circuit-oriented branch, and the academic structure at NIT Trichy is excellent, making you eligible for most companies that visit campus. Placements are decent. This branch has a good scope as well. If you're not familiar with what it entails, it focuses on sensor manufacturing. Just look around you and see how many sensors are part of your daily life. That's the potential! You might feel at some point that you left the core branch of Mechanical Engineering, which is also offered at MNNIT Allahabad. It's definitely an evergreen branch; you'll always find opportunities in the market, no matter the situation. People are generally more aware of Mechanical Engineering, but few know about Instrumentation and Control Engineering if you ask around. NIT Trichy is ranked higher than MNNIT Allahabad in every aspect. NIT Trichy is ranked 1st, while MNNIT Allahabad is around 4th or 5th, if I remember correctly. I chose NIT Trichy over MNNIT Allahabad, and being from U.P., I can confidently say it was the right decision. I opted for Metallurgy at NIT Trichy over other branches at MNNIT Allahabad. I wasn't getting any core branch there, by the way. I've learned and improved in many ways that I wouldn't have otherwise.

If you have a BSc in math and wish to work as a software engineer, the MCA is usually the easiest and most efficient route. Additional benefits might be available if you can obtain a BTech lateral entry in computer science from a reputable institution, although this is less usual and more restrictive. Choose between specialised IT skills and a more general engineering background, taking into account your access to lateral entry alternatives.
