Which is better, a CSE at VIIT Pune or an ENTC at VIT Pune, considering the future of the branch and the college?
My friend is currently in his final year of CSE in VIT and is also working at IBM, Pune for my semester-long internship. VIT and VIIT have a common Training and Placement Officer who oversees the placements of both colleges. In my opinion, VIT CSE is way better than EnTC in terms of placements. My friends in EnTc who score better than my friend in VIIT CSE are still struggling for decent jobs. VIIT CSE students get offers from companies that visit the campus almost every week. Although VIT allows EnTC students to appear for software jobs, most software companies prefer taking CSE students mainly because they have studied the relevant subjects for 4 years.
Moreover, VIT is autonomous. I would recommend you choose CSE even if the colleges are similar because the CSE curriculum and syllabus will guarantee your entry into the Software or IT industry. Another added advantage is that VIT has a system of compulsory semester-long internships in either of the semesters of the 4th year. Students receive internship offers from big companies that likely get converted into placement offers for CSE. This may not be the case for any other college in the entire Pune.
My friends in EnTC are now struggling to pursue higher studies or jobs in the Software industry. So go for VIT without any second thoughts.
Which branch has a better placement, ECE or CSE, at IIT-Patna?
IIT Patna CSE branch is known for the best placements. However, there is not much difference between ECE and CSE but it has maintained a legacy in CSE.

Which is better, IIT Delhi (chemical) or BITS Pilani (CSE)?
I am a B.Tech Chemical Engineering student at IIT Delhi. According to me, these are the main factors you should consider while making up your mind:
- Demand: CSE is more in-demand than chemical engineering.
- Brand: The “IIT” tag holds more brand value than the “BITS” tag. The “IIT” tag will be more advantageous if you want to apply to foreign universities for higher education later on.
- Fees: IIT Delhi is an affordable choice, whereas, BITS Pilani has high fees for its engineering programs. Additionally, IIT Delhi has better placements, which places it at a better position in terms of ROI.

Even though CSE is a highly sought after branch in the current market, I would suggest you opt for Chemical Engineering at IIT Delhi. IIT Delhi will offer a better ROI, and its brand name will be of immense benefit if you wish to pursue higher studies in India and abroad after graduation.
You can do some research on the career and research opportunities after Chemical Engineering, and see if this branch aligns with your future goals.
What should I choose between IIT BHU CSE and IIT Guwahati Maths and Computing?
Both IIT BHU CSE and IIT Guwahati MnC are excellent options and the choice of the branch is a personal matter depending on the candidate's preferences rather than the credibility of the branch. Here are a few parameters on which we can draw a general comparison between the two courses.
- Course structure: IIT Guwahati’s MnC program has a well-structured curriculum with the perfect blend of Computer Science, finance, and Mathematics courses. By the end of the program, you will be eligible to sit for software as well as finance placements. IIT BHU CSE too is known for its flexible course structure with a plethora of electives to choose from.
- Coding culture: Undoubtedly, IITBHU has a better coding culture than IIT Guwahati. The ambiance is quite competitive at BHU if that’s what you are after. However, MnC too is gaining popularity and the decreasing opening rank can be seen as a proof of the same.
- Peer group: High JEE rankers prefer IIT Guwahati over IIT BHU and thus the peer group of IIT Guwahati is more refined and superior in quality.
- Campus and student life: IIT Guwahati has an amazing campus and its students get to live a very dynamic and lively college life. IIT-BHU’s campus on the other hand is underdeveloped and you can also find student politics here. IIT Guwahati is the best choice for nature lovers who like solace and peace while IIT BHU is for those who want to experience city life as well.
- Student life: Both institutes have great clubs and activities to promote the holistic development of students. Students are allotted single rooms right from the first year at IIT Guwahati which is different from IIT BHU. Mess food is better at BHU. IIT Guwahati is a clear winner in sports, cultural and technical clubs, etc.
- Placements: Both institutes have equally good placement scenarios with major recruiters like Microsoft, Google, Tower Research, Flipkart, etc. visiting both these campuses. CS and MnC students receive similar placement offers and in fact, being in MnC makes you eligible for both finance as well as software jobs.
Both the institutes and branches have their own strengths and weaknesses and the final decision should be based on what you want from your degree. If it’s a competitive environment you are after, go for IIT BHU, while if it’s a rich college life experience you want, then IIT Guwahati is your destination.
How’s the placements for COE in Thapar University?
COE placements in Thapar University are decent and numerous opportunities are offered to its students. The reality is, the quality of roles and packages also depends largely on the profiles of the students and their skills. Many reputed firms like Microsoft IDE, Amazon, and Maruti visit the campus every year and offer lucrative packages to skilled students. Work Applications, a Japanese company offered a package of INR 30 LPA in the past. Many such offers are made.
Many students resort to off-campus placements and end up with high packages. The reason is that the campus placements do not allow some startups because they aren't sure of their credibility. These startups offer huge packages to students in off-campus placemats.
If you want to get placed as a COE student at Thapar University check the following points
- Learn Coding
- Create something unique
- Contribute to open source projects
- Conduct qualitative research and publish a few papers
- Participate in online coding competitions.
I will highly recommend you go for off-campus placements in Google, Microsoft Research, Oracle, Rubric, Tower Research, etc.
Which is better academically (preferably CSE and ECE branch), NIT Manipur. NIT Meghalaya, NIT Sikkim, NIT Nagaland or Tezpur University?
Before choosing an institute, think about what your requirements are. Here are some points that might help you make a decision.
- If your aim is a job in a corporate sector then the NITs will definitely be better options. Opt for either NIT Meghalaya or Nagaland.
- Do not compare their placements with older NITs as it could prove disappointing.
- Tezpur University (TU) is also known to provide good placement opportunities but it is more concentrated to only the CSE department.
- You may get placements from a few IT companies, but overall placements are concerned NITs are definitely better than TU.
- Students who are interested in learning and exploring research fields can opt for TU as well.
- Tezpur University has very good faculty strength in ECE & CSE.
- The two departments are much older too.
- The CSE faculty and labs of TU are better than NIT Silchar.
- TU has got a good research environment as there are multiple departments of Science and Engineering, which is not the case of the mentioned NITs.
Therefore it is suggested that if you aim for an immediate job opportunity, go for NITs. For students who feel confident that they can get a job off campus or are more inclined towards academics and research can go for TU.
What is the fee structure for a BTech in CSE at MNNIT Allahabad (also for the hostel and mess)?
For students with an annual family income of more than 5 lakhs, B.Tech CSE tuition fee per semester at MNNIT Allahabad is around INR 98,500. Hostel fee is included in these charges which is around INR 12,000 per semester.
The required fee varies depending on the category and family income. If your family income falls between 1-5 lakhs, then per semester fee will be around INR 56,833.
However, the mess fee at MNNIT Allahabad is fixed for everyone and it is INR 20,000 per semester.
Are new IITs (Tirupati and pallakad) good for CSE?
I belong to the first CSE batch of IIT Tirupati. We had it rough because of no senior guidance, and a sense of helplessness. But having said that, CSE is all about self effort and dedication. Whatever college you choose, you’ll feel a bit clueless till about your 3rd semester. But to get through, you need dedication and patience.
Now coming to your answer, IIT Tirupati is a good choice for CSE. You should consider this college if you couldn’t get into CSE at the old IITs. The reasons for this are-
- Some of the excellent faculty of IIT Madras still take a few core courses at IIT Tirupati.
- The CSE lab is well-equipped and Air Conditioned.
- The college library remains open till 9 pm.
- The hostels are quite nice.
Regardless of the IIT, it is your own efforts and the guidance of your mentors that will lead you towards success in any field.
Which is better for CSE, IIT Gandhinagar or IIT Ropar?
When it comes to IITs it’s not really easy to compare them especially when these both are of the same generation.
However, if you still need to compare it is important for you to understand that an undergraduate degree is more of an exploration to discover your passion and interest. This hypothesis has been vetted by a large number of IIT graduates, IIM graduates, and many professors and IIT alums.
Let’s take a few examples for a case in point.
- Dr. Raghuram Rajan, a top IIT alum studied electrical at IIT, followed up with an MBA at IIM and then a Ph.D. from MIT to become an economist.
- Also, the TVF guy (Jeetu bhaiya from the Kota Factory) did undergrad from IIT Kharagpur only to become a comedian and actor later. Interesting isn’t it?
Flexibility:
So now that you understand the importance of flexibility and passion, IIT Gandhinagar stands out here undoubtedly. The curriculum at IIT Gandhinagar is very flexible and it allows you to study anything under the sun. This flexibility is the reason behind the success of Many IIT Gandhinagar graduates.
Apart from that, IIT Gandhinagar has the most funds among the second generation IITs. It offers around 30–40% of the batch with options to pursue foreign internships and great research opportunities.
Location:
If you compare IIT Ropar with IIT Gandhinagar, the latter takes the trophy again because it is situated in Gandhinagar which is the capital of Gujarat. The campus sits in the vicinity of CM residence, Vidhan Sabha, ambitious GIFT City project, prominent institutes such as DAIICT, NIFT, and many others.
Placement:
Placements at IIT Gandhinagar is excellent. The first CSE batch graduated in 2020. Without CSE only, firms such as Nutanix, Goldman Sachs, ITC, Barclays, etc. have been recruiting at the campus.
Alumni:
IIT Gandhinagar has to date graduated about 600+ students from BTech and at least 80–90% of them are quite successful. You can see alums are working in firms such as Mckinsey, Microsoft in the US, Amazon, Apple, BCG, ATK, Google, Facebook, Goldman Sachs, ITC, PnG, to name a few. For these factors, CSE at IIT Gandhinagar is a better alternative.
