Will there be double intake of IPM students at IIM Indore?
If the current scenario is accurate, the student intake of IPM will be doubled only if the IIM bill is passed. This move has already brought a downgrade in the image of IIM Indore. Doubling the intake of students will more than dampen the image of IIM Indore. This step will make it one of the worst business schools in the country.
The batch already has around 120 students so it may not be possible to be in charge of a bigger batch. It is difficult enough already.
There is also a lack of capable faculty given the fact for the first 3 years, you will be taught by guest faculty.
Is the IPM course at IIM Indore better than doing engineering, followed by management in top IIMs?
If you are willing to pursue MBA after the completion of your engineering then IPM is the good option for you as you can complete your IPM in five years while engineering and MBA together will be for the entire six years. If you go for IPM, you will have one year of job experience after six years.
In the IPM program, you will get to learn relevant courses in the undergraduate (first three years), while the things you will learn in engineering, will not be of much use in an MBA.
IPM gives you a chance of doing an MBA from an IIM. If you want you can also attempt CAT to get into another IIM, after 3 years of the course.
If you are determined to do an MBA after gaining some experience, then IPM gives that option too. After two years of the IPM program, you will have the chance to work for two years. After that, you can come back and pursue your MBA from IIM Indore.
What subjects should I choose in 11th if I want to do the IPM course in IIM Indore?
It should be Physics-chemistry-Maths-Computers if one wants to maximize their chances of selection and perform well in IPM.
Reasons:
The IPMAT has nearly IITJEE-level maths. The IPMAT consists of two sections: maths (quantitative aptitude and data interpretation, reasoning).
The first three years of IPM require at least nine courses in maths and statistics. Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Probability, Sampling Distribution & Statistical Inference, Linear Programming, Numerical Analysis, Optimisation, and other subjects are covered.
Furthermore, other computer-related courses are required. Object Oriented Design, Programming and JAVA, Data Analytics, Data Structure, C, Algorithms, DBMS, Web Development, and so on.
While there are ten courses linked to economics, practically all of them take a more mathematical approach. Except for 5-6 sessions out of 200, classes 11-12, economics is not particularly useful for those.
Why the commerce stream is ineffective - There is only one accounting course. Some management fundamentals and business law courses. While an accounting course may be preferable, I doubt it is difficult to learn. None of those other topics are covered in Commerce 11-12.
PCMC is typically present in 60% of the batch. Only 5% of 11-12 grade students have no math skills, owing to several diversity policies and affirmative actions. This track also aids in hedging one's prospects of admission to other institutions, including BITS Pilani's UG and integrated programs, IISER, ISI, and IITs.
While commerce in 11-12 assists in BBA, IPM is not the same as BBA+MBA, therefore please do not mistake it for that widespread and incorrect misconception.
P.S. - If you are weak in maths or dislike maths, you should avoid IPM at IIM Indore. Other IPMs and a variety of other institutes would be a better fit for you.
How tough is it to get into IIM Indore as I am preparing for IPM?
If you want to decide the toughness on the basis of the availability of seats then yes, it indeed is tough to get into IIM Indore. The seats available for the IPM program are 150. So the competition is pretty tough.
But in reality, the majority of the students just are writing the exam casually. Some students even give up after looking at the test structure, difficulty, and other confidence issues. So the ones who are serious about and have seriously prepared for the exam are competing with a much lesser number of students.
IIM Indore makes around 800–850 calls for an interview for IPM, which means one of every 6 good candidates gets a call for an interview. Around the top 180 students get a final offer (main list + waiting list).
So probability-wise you have a good chance of making it into IIM Indore provided that you are self-motivated and well-prepared.
I am so confused about the IPM program offered by IIM Indore. Is it good? What are the perks of being an IIM Indore graduate.
If you want to work in the management field and pursue a career in management, the IPM program is a fantastic choice for you. IIM Indore was the pioneer of this course which is now being provided by many other IIMs like IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Rohtak etc. The Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) offered by IIM Indore is a unique and highly regarded program in India that is designed for students who have just completed their 12th standard (or equivalent) and want to pursue a career in management. It is a 5-year program that will provide you with undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
Apart from the prestigious tag, there are many perks that come with it. The institute has a strong alumni network, which can be a valuable resource for networking and career opportunities. The institute's placement record is also excellent, with many leading companies visiting the campus for recruitment. Additionally, IIM Indore has a strong research focus, and students can participate in various research projects and conferences. Can someone crack the IIM Indore IPM exam without having maths in 12th standard?
Yes, it is possible to crack the IPM exam at IIM Indore without maths in 12th grade. A non-math student can apply for IPM at IIM Indore. However, it can be difficult for a student without a Maths background to clear the paper as the question paper is loaded with Higher Maths - Questions from Class 11th and 12th Math section.
Past Year Paper analysis suggests that even the basic maths questions (till class 10th) are of higher difficulty level. So, it won't be easy, but it’s not impossible.
With hard work, proper preparation, and practice you can clear IPM. But the IPM course also has mathematics studies. It includes courses of pure maths, statistics, economics often driven by maths, etc.
IPM from IIM Rohtak can be an alternative to IPM from IIM Indore, as the paper is much easier and the difficulty level of Maths questions is also manageable.
What books should one read to prepare for PI by IPM by IIM Indore?
Current events and general knowledge are crucial for IIM Indore's Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) Personal Interview (PI) round. Reference books:
- Manorama Yearbook: Current events, history, science and technology, sports, and more. It's a great resource for current events.
- The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting publishes India Year Book yearly. It includes government programmes and sector statistics.
- The Hindu can help you stay informed and improve your critical thinking. To comprehend concerns, read national and international news
- Business Today, a weekly business magazine, covers economics, finance, industry, and technology. It might help you understand business and prepare for industry queries.
- Arun Sharma and Meenakshi Upadhyay, Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension This book can help you with reading comprehension and grammatical and vocabulary issues.

Can I join college and after a year try for IPM (IIM Indore)?
According to some of my friends studying at IIM Indore, it is renowned for its management studies. It is ranked seventh in the NIRF Ranking for Management 2020.
- They offer Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) covering the bachelor’s and Masters’ degrees.
- You can choose to join a college after 10+2 and attempt to crack IPMAT. All you need is to satisfy the eligibility criteria.
- Many alumni of the IIM Indore’s had secured admission in the IPM programme after joining another institute.
The course has an excellent curriculum and provides the best exposure to the students that is unparalleled to any other programmes in India. Overall, the ultimate choice depends upon your interests and what you want to be in the future.
Is it worth to take a drop and prepare for IIM-INDORE IPM?
I have a few friends from IIM Indore and according to them, it is risky to take a year-drop to prepare for IPM. Before taking a drop and preparing for IPM at IIM Indore, consider the fees which are quite high. You can even appear for the entrance exam for IPM while continuing your current college. If you end up getting selected for admission, you can discontinue your current college.
Is it worth spending 17 lakhs for a BBA from NMIMS (Mumbai)?
