The IIT Kanpur campus spans an expansive area with academic buildings, hostels, research facilities, recreational areas, gardens and more. It provides enough space for academics and extracurricular activities. There are also finished apartments and a guest house for visitors. 

The self-sustained campus is 1055 acres big inhabiting around 14,000 members. Most of these members generally include students, faculty members and other staff. The infrastructure provides academic, recreational, culinary, residential and shopping needs to inhabitants. 

I completed my MTech in Aerospace Engineering from IIT Kanpur. IITK offers MTech in 15 specializations with CSE, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering and biological sciences being the top ones. As per the NIRF 2023 Ranking, IIT Kanpur is ranked #4 for Engineering, and #1 for Innovation among Indian colleges/universities. IITK is also ranked #3 Overall by India Today 2023 Ranking. 

A good number of core companies visit the Aerospace department for M.Tech placements like Airbus, Mercedes Benz, John Deere, Caterpillar, among others. Other than that, students of Aerospace Engineering can sit for Analytical and Software companies if interested. 

The benefit is that these companies provide better packages than the core companies. ISRO, DRDO and other Indian Aeronautical Engineering firms prefer MTech students over BTech during the IIT Kanpur placements because their work requires a specialized knowledge of the field.

As per the M.Tech placement 2023 data released by DoMS, IIT Kanpur, the batch recorded 100% placements (i.e. all 18 students were successfully placed). The highest CTC offered was INR 27 LPA, the top 30% students received an average CTC of INR 23 LPA, the median CTC was INR 15.38 LPA, and the average CTC was INR 16.9 LPA.

IIT Kanpur MTech program offers good academic and research facilities, along with good placement opportunities. The MTech faculty members are experts in their respective fields and support innovative ideas from the students’ side.

Overall, IIT Kanpur is a good choice for an MTech. However, the faculty, curriculum, and placement details will depend a lot on which specialization you are particularly interested in.

The Department of Management Sciences (DoMS, formerly IME) offers MBA at IIT Kanpur. IIT Kanpur is one of the oldest and most renowned IITs, and it stands at 23rd position among the top Management colleges, as per the NIRF 2023 Ranking. I am an MBA student at IIT Kanpur, so I am eligible to answer this question.

Most MBA students on campus have converted XIMB, IMT G, IMI D, DSE, etc.; yet they chose IIT Kanpur over these institutions. The learning pedagogy at IIT Kanpur is really good, and corporate relations are also managed well.

ROI is an added advantage for MBA students at IIT Kanpur. The total fee is approximately INR 3.67 lakhs for a General Category and OBC student, and even less for an SC/ST category student (0 tuition fee for SC/ST/PH category). 

In terms of placements, in 2023, the highest CTC was INR 24 LPA, the average CTC received by the top 50% of students was INR 22.20 LPA, and the median CTC was INR 17.25 LPA. Admission to BTech CSE courses is based on the JEE Advanced exam. Candidates with a valid JEE Advanced scorecard must appear in the JoSAA counselling to secure the seat.
