IIT Delhi's Electrical Engineering (core) and Power and Automation are quite similar, with only a difference of about 3–4 courses.

Here are some key points:

  • There are department elective courses that must be completed as part of the degree requirements.
  • You can choose from IIT Delhi's Electrical Engineering (core) courses, allowing Power and Automation students to gain equivalent knowledge.
  • Ultimately, there is no significant difference between IIT Delhi's Electrical core and Power Automation.

Additionally, IIT Delhi's Electrical Engineering is ranked higher than IIT Kharagpur's Electrical and IIT Bombay's Mechanical.

CSE at IIT Kharagpur? You’ll be thanking me later! Here’s the deal:

  • Placements: CS has WAY better placements than any other department. That’s what really matters, right? For you and your family!
  • Practical Work: CSE students can run programs hands-on immediately. It’s super satisfying to see those results!
  • Mechanical Engineering: In mechanical, there’s a lot of problem-solving, but not as much immediate practical output.

So, if you’re looking for great placements and instant gratification from your work, CSE is the way to go!

Should I go for B.Tech Electrical Engineering in IIT Delhi or B.Tech Agricultural and Food Engineering + M.Tech Farm Machinery and Power in IIT Kharagpur?

D
DizzyDivinity Posted On : April 22nd, 2026

I would personally lean towards B.Tech in Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi over B.Tech in Agricultural and Food Engineering plus M.Tech in Farm Machinery and Power at IIT Kharagpur. IIT Delhi has a more intense and engaging curriculum with a strong emphasis on problem-solving, while IIT Kharagpur, though reputable, may not offer the same level of faculty engagement based on the feedback I've seen. Campus life at IIT Delhi seems vibrant with numerous clubs and activities, whereas Kharagpur, while still good, might not match the same energy. Plus, internship opportunities at IIT Delhi appear to be from top tech firms, giving it an edge in placement prospects. So, if you're passionate about electrical engineering and want a lively campus experience, IIT Delhi would be the better choice; but if you're interested in agricultural engineering and want to pursue specialized fields, Kharagpur could be a good fit.

Should I go for B.Tech Industrial & Production Engineering in IIT Delhi or B.Tech Instrumentation Engineering in IIT Kharagpur?

E
EerieEel Posted On : April 22nd, 2026

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering seems to offer a solid ROI with an impressive average package of 18 lakhs and a high placement rate exceeding 90%. The faculty support and campus facilities are also strong points, but the fees can be hefty, especially given Delhi's living costs. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering has a well-structured fee system and provides scholarships for deserving students, making it a more financially viable option for those who might need it. While both colleges have excellent placement opportunities with top companies, IIT Delhi edges ahead in terms of average salary. If you can afford IIT Delhi, go for it, but if you're looking for better financial support and still want a great education, consider IIT Kharagpur.

Which one should I opt for IIT Delhi B.Tech Electrical Engineering Power and Automation or IIT Kharagpur B.Tech Mechanical Engineering

G
GrumpyGrackle Posted On : April 22nd, 2026

IIT Delhi B.Tech in Electrical Engineering Power and Automation offers great earning potential with internships that can pay up to 25 lakh, while IIT Kharagpur's Mechanical Engineering program provides a slightly better average package of 20-25 lakhs. However, the tuition fees at IIT Delhi are higher, making the ROI a bit more favorable at IIT Kharagpur, where fees are lower and scholarships are available based on academic performance. Both colleges have excellent placement records, but IIT Kharagpur edges ahead slightly in overall affordability. If you’re looking for a better financial choice with strong ROI, IIT Kharagpur might be the smarter pick, but if you prefer a path that blends core engineering with coding, IIT Delhi is worth considering.

Which one should I opt for IIT Delhi B.Tech Mathematics and Computing or IIT Kharagpur B.Tech Chemical Engineering

M
MemeMarmoset Posted On : April 22nd, 2026

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing offers a strong ROI, especially with its high placement rates and lucrative internships, with top quant firms offering packages up to 4 crore. The tuition fees of 1,00,000 per semester are manageable, and various scholarships make it accessible. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Chemical Engineering might have a broader appeal in traditional engineering fields, but the earning potential from quant roles at IIT Delhi significantly outweighs this. If you’re passionate about mathematics and want to dive into tech or finance, IIT Delhi is the smarter financial choice. However, if you prefer a more traditional engineering path, IIT Kharagpur could be a solid option.

Choose based on your interests, not what others say.

  • Do you enjoy Maths, Physics, and Chemistry? ? Go for Chemical Engineering!
  • Prefer only Maths and Physics? ? Opt for Electrical Engineering!
  • Want to work in communications later? ? EE is a good choice, as you can transition from EE to ECE.

Make your decision based on what excites you!

Which one should I opt for IIT Delhi B.Tech Mathematics and Computing or IIT Kharagpur B.Tech Electrical Engineering

P

Firstly, let me be clear: IIT DELHI IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN IIT KGP. Now, let's break it down:

1. PERCEPTION OF PEOPLE:

  • IITD > IIT KGP
  • MATH & COMPUTING ~ EE (approximately equal, but MNC has an edge due to its proximity to CS)

2. JOB OPPORTUNITIES:

  • EE covers a broader field, including both software and hardware. MNC, on the other hand, leans more towards software computing.
  • So, EE ~ MNC (but MNC is still better due to its connection to CS)

3. ACCEPTABILITY IN OTHER FIELDS:

  • EE graduates can easily shift to various related fields, as electrical courses are commonly taken by students from other branches. MNC, however, is more limited to math and IT.
  • Therefore, EE > MNC

4. IN OTHER COLLEGES:

  • EE is an evergreen branch found in most engineering colleges. MNC is a “hybrid” branch created to meet the rising demand for CS, so it’s not widely available in many colleges, which restricts its acceptability.
  • Hence, EE > MNC

5. RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES:

  • EE > MNC

6. ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT:

  • IITD > IIT KGP

So, the final decision is yours. Remember, your own interests and priorities also play a significant role in your choice. Cheers!
