Despite IIM Calcutta’s fatigue, people appear to support the cause of not allowing other harmless traditions to continue.
And, given the current political propaganda, it is not very safe. It arises from deep internal insecurities in order to maintain the illusion of power. Some seemingly innocuous traditions are problematic and occur on a regular basis. So you have a very safe campus where your sexuality is never mentioned. Then there are those who fight for their cohorts while ignoring their flaws.
For a professional who has undertaken IIMs' Executive MBA, their salary varies from about INR 18 lakh per annum reaching up to even INR 90 Lakh per annum or more. However, this answer is definite. To determine the average salary package, however, let’s generalize the question. Salary varies from batch to batch. Also, campus salaries are higher than applying on your own. To analyze salaries, you need to break them up into segments. In the 3 to 4-year segment, the average could be around 15 to 18 lakhs. In the 5 to 8, it would go from 15 to 30 and above 8 years it's specific to your experience and fit. All figures I have quoted are CTC.
So an average salary analysis will not help.
The curriculum at MBA Calcutta is pretty intense. This is because the students here are equally talented and tough competition is required to maintain the rigor. Some features that make the curriculum at IIM Calcutta extensive are:
Seminars
Practicals
Laboratory sessions
Live projects, simulations and role-play activities
Occasionally classes are taught by industry experts from peer schools or from abroad
Consistent revision of the course
All these make IIM Calcutta one of the most academically intense institutions in India. The competition here is tough because of the batch size as well as the rigid grading system.
No, usually a gap year does not affect your chances of getting into IIM Calcutta. Your reason for the same should be a genuine one. One of my friends had to take a gap post-graduation due to severe health issues. But she got into IIM Calcutta. When asked about the same during the interview she told them the actual reason. The panel deemed the reason as a genuine one and she got selected. So don’t let a simple gap year demotivate you to the point of giving up on IIM Calcutta. It always gives second chances to talented students. Just make sure your reason is genuine and you are able to justify it during the interview.
The decision depends on many factors because CAT is a highly competitive exam that requires dedicated preparation. If you think you can manage your CAT preparation along with your job, you can give yourself a second chance while getting familiar with some of the courses that are going to come up in the PGP program. You should use this time to upskill yourself in your field of interest.
ABC is also a bigger brand than IIM Indore, but ultimately, it's the skills that matter in the long run. The PGP program will be rigorous, and you should be mentally prepared to handle it. Additionally, there are no guarantees in life or in CAT, and the selection process involves an element of luck, with the interview round being extremely subjective. I suggest having an honest discussion with yourself and weighing all your options before making a decision.
Some features of IIM Calcutta that sets us apart from other B Schools are
It is the oldest Indian Institute of Management of India.
It is the first Indian B-school to get triple accreditation by AMBA, AACSB, and EQUIS.
Its alumni consist of the most intelligent people now working at top-notch companies.
The pass-outs of this institute now are heads of companies or business units.
Other roles acquired by this institute's alumni include best-selling authors, Government functionaries, or Academicians.
So we can say safely that IIM Calcutta is indeed a top-notch institution and offers tough competition to other B Schools.
The EWS quota makes a slight difference in your chances of getting into FMS or IIM Calcutta. It is not the major factor that determines your eligibility. Some major parameters that are considered are:
CAT score
10 and 12 marks
Graduation score
Work Experience
A good past record with 99 CAT score will increase your chances of getting into IIM Calcutta. Study hard for the CAT exam as the competition is very tough.
So rather than focusing on minor factors like EWS, focus more on your preparation.
CAT, academic achievement, job experience, and selection rounds are among the major determinants considered in IIM admissions. Shortlisting applicants for selection rounds is based on CAT scores.
IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Kolkata demand a minimum CAT percentile of 90 or above for admission.
IIMs demand a bachelor's degree with at least 50% or a similar CGPA. The higher the better the chance for conversion.
While a strong CAT score is necessary, scoring the minimal CAT percentile alone does not guarantee IIM admission. For admission, you need a good academic record, suitable professional experience, and good selection rounds.
