How good is chemical engineering in NIT Trichy?

- Faculty: The faculty at NIT Trichy is highly experienced and highly educated. One can say that they are proficient in their field of expertise. Some professors can give you a hard time but an easy college life would not be of much fun.
- Infrastructure & facilities: The labs are above average and a little outdated in comparison to other top-notch colleges in India. The lab assistants are however cooperative and are experienced. You will be allowed to use the labs of other departments.
- Internships: A majority of 50-60% of students manage to land internships during the beginning semesters. There are plenty of opportunities available and you will definitely experience things out of the box. The professors have excellent networking which you can surely make use of.
- Placements: You will be required to clear CTC (a system at NIT Trichy). If you clear it, you will eligible to apply for placements. The Chemical Engineering department consists of a low-class strength and the department has experienced over 95% placement rate. The companies visiting here are esteemed as well as some are startups.
- Higher Education: The brand name of NIT Trichy would help you in getting through some barriers in your future studies/career. You should mainly focus on maintaining a great CGPA in your course for smoothening your future ventures.

Which is better for CS, NIT (Warangal, Trichy) or BITS Pilani?
NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, and BITS Pilani are all good colleges for CSE. Here is a comparison among them based on various parameters-
- Brand Value - RECs were rechristened as NITs and taken under the Centre’s control in 2003. On the other hand, BITS Pilani is a much older brand. However, the top NITs are as much favored by recruiters as BITS Pilani. One can say that in terms of brand value, the top 3-4 NITs are almost at par with BITS Pilani.
- Placements - During 2023, The CSE branch at NIT Warangal saw the highest package of INR 88 LPA and the average package of INR 30.8 LPA.
At BITS Pilani, Tech students were offered a package between INR 11 - 38 LPA. At NIT Trichy, the highest package overall stood at INR 40 LPA for the year 2022. From these figures, one can declare that at present NIT Warangal has the best placements for CSE among the three (as per the official figures).
- Fee- At BITS Pilani, you will be spending around three times more than the NITs for the same degree. Thus, with regard to course fees, NITs are much more affordable than BITS Pilani.
- Crowd - To some extent, BITS Pilani is the winner because the admissions at BITS Pilani are purely merit-based. Although, one has to consider that JEE is much more difficult than BITSAT, and in fact, many students at top NITs clear JEE advanced.
Overall, all three colleges are quite good for your CSE. In the end, it is you who has to put in the required effort.
Is it really hard to get into NIT Trichy for an average student?
It is not impossible to get into NIT Trichy or any top institution for an average student. I was an average student during school time and got a 7.6 CGPA in my 10th board examination. During my 12th boards, I worked hard and scored an astonishing 94.6%.
During my first attempt in JEE Mains, I got a 93.1 percentile. My score depressed me and I decided to prepare well for my second attempt. On my next attempt, I scored 98.120 percentile. It was a huge improvement for me.
Even though I had an OBC quota through which I got a seat at NIT Kurukshetra in an Electrical Engineering course, the point of this answer is that if I could’ve picked myself up and improved to such a great extent, even you can do so. However, I must warn you that for NIT Trichy you will have to work extremely hard.
Which college should I choose: Jadavpur University CSE or NIT Trichy CSE in terms of placements?
Both institutions offer great research and placement opportunities in the CSE branch. NIT Trichy gets you an INI Tag and the hostel-life over there is great. On the other hand, the fees at Jadavpur University are incredibly low. Also, Jadavpur University allows you to experience University culture.
I personally know alumni from JU and NIT Trichy CSE and all of them are doing well in their careers. I would suggest you talk to the recently graduated alumni from both institutions to get a closer look at the present-day ground reality.
According to me, whether you choose CSE at NIT Trichy or Jadavpur University, you will not regret your choice. Also, consider other grounds like location before arriving at the final decision.
How is the placement of VLSI in NIT Trichy?
NIT Trichy placements are good for VLSI. Most students from the branch get placed in software and hardware profiles as per their skills and knowledge. Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Nvidia, Western Digital, etc. are among the major core recruiters that take part in the campus drive. The average CTC for the branch stays in the range of INR 10-12 LPA.

When it comes to EEE, NIT Trichy is one of the very best. NIT Trichy is the top NIT and is far better than the new IITs. The department of EEE is reputed at NIT Trichy. Every year multiple students from diverse backgrounds take admitted to this department to pursue their dreams. However, it also depends on your convenience. If you can shift to Trichy for your graduation, then NIT Trichy is your best option.
The campus environment of NIT Trichy is wonderful. You will get to meet people from diverse backgrounds as well as the facilities that are provided are top-notch. The EEE department also excels in research so if you want to pursue research in your future then you should definitely opt for NIT Trichy/ Also, the faculty members are helpful and knowledgeable and their lectures are just mind-blowing.
Should one take mechanical in NIT Trichy or CSE in BITS Pilani main campus?
Both NIT Trichy and BITs Pilani are prestigious institutes offering high-quality engineering education. Moreover, CSE and ME are equally good with different opportunities and prospects. So the choice between BITS Pilani CSE and NIT Trichy Mechanical depends on what your preferences and career prospects are.
BITS Pilani CSE is a great option if
- You want to join a top private organization like Google, Facebook, Quora, Amazon, Microsoft, etc
- Your primary goal is getting high packages even at the cost of extreme work conditions and workload
- If you have a strong passion for coding
- If you have no financial constraints and can afford the high BITS Pilani fees.
However, NIT Trichy Mechanical is a good option if
- You are looking for a stable Government job through UPSC Engineering Services Examination
- You want to go for PSUs such as IOCL, ONGC, NTPC, etc through GATE
- If you are a research enthusiast and want to work in a research-oriented government job as a Scientist or Engineer in organizations like RDO, ISRO, BARC, etc
- If money is your secondary preference and you primarily focus on attaining a better work-life balance.
- If you have financial issues and BITS Pilani fees are out of your budget.
Ultimately, it’s you who can decide the right college and stream for yourself. Just remember that these are just stepping stones to success and it’s you who has to work hard to become successful.
What is the current placement scenario for metallurgy and materials engineering at NIT Trichy?
One of my friends graduated from NIT Trichy and here are some facts about the institute I got to know from her.
As you have not mentioned any specifications, let me just describe the placement scenario of Metallurgy at NIT Trichy.
- The placements generally vary from year to year.
- Out of a batch of around 60 students, people looking for placements every year is around 40.
- The rest of the people either go for higher studies or have some other plans.
- Most of the people get into material science-related fields at very good universities.
- Out of the 40 students, around 30 usually get placed.
- Companies that usually open for metallurgy graduates include, Core Metal (steel/ aluminium), Automobile, Analytics, Software and others.
- There are a few companies that are regular visitors. The rest depends on the market and your training placement coordinator.
- Placements for metallurgy students are lesser than the other departments.
