Should I take chemical at BITS Pilani or take a drop?

SM
Sayantani Mitra Posted On : July 20th, 2021
Studied at University of Mumbai (2019)

One of my friends studied Chemical Engineering at BITS Pilani. According to him, it is a really tough stream. It is suggested not to drop a year instead ensure that you work very hard.

  • Spend over 12 hours self study every single day for a year.
  • You should be able to get under 1000 rank in JEE next year which might be worth taking a year drop.
  • But if you have secured a much higher BITSAT score, and if you think you won't be able to work this hard, then simply take whatever you are getting at Pilani.
  • Try to graduate with a CGPA of 8.5+ and go for an MS/Ph.D. in any area of your interest.

Herewith I'm providing the basic details for BITS Pilani :

PARAMETERS BITS PILANI
Tuition Fees INR 1.78 LPA
Placement Percentage 99%
Average Package INR 17 LPA

If you opt to drop and secure admission in an IIT, you will be getting only one degree after 4 years. Whereas, you can get 2 individual degrees from BITS after 5 years. There is not much of a difference between BITS and IITs. It is certainly better than the new ones. The top 5 or 6 IITs are better than BITS but letting go of one more year might not be a wise decision.

Which should I choose: Electronics and Instrumentation in BITS Pilani Goa Campus, or Electrical and Electronics in NIT Surathkal?

ST
Sanjana Thakur Posted On : September 16th, 2023

Since both the colleges are considered highly reputable and among the best in the country, you should focus on the branch. The choice of the branch directly depends on your inclinations and future goals.

To make it easier for you I have explained each branch in short:

Electrical and Instrumentation:

  • Instrumentation engineering is the engineering specialization that focuses primarily on the principle and operation of measuring instruments that are used in the design and configuration of automated systems in electrical, pneumatic domains, etc.
  • These engineers usually work at chemical or manufacturing plants and their job role involves improving productivity, reliability, safety, optimization, and stability.
  • They are responsible for designing devices that measure physical quantities such as pressure, flow, and temperature. You will require a lot of knowledge in physics much more than electromagnetic theory.

Electrical and Electronics:

  • In this students learn to design electronic circuits, and computer systems and also develop control systems. Electronics play a key role in the implementation and control of electrical machines.
  • The course mainly focuses on designing and testing ICs, inductors, capacitors and resistors and includes fundamentals and principles of physics, mathematics, computer science, and project management.
  • The sub-disciplines of this branch are power, control, electronics, microelectronics and Signal Processing, Telecommunications, Instrumentation and Computers.

Although the choice depends on your own interests, EE has a better scope than EIE.

What should I go for, B.Design at IIT Guwahati or a dual degree at BITS Pilani, (Pilani Campus)?

MS
Mouboni Sengupta Posted On : July 18th, 2022

A dual degree from BITS Pilani has better future prospects than B.Design at IIT Guwahati. If you want good placement opportunities after the completion of your branch, then BITS Pilani dual degree will be the right choice for you. Most recruiting companies want students from STEM backgrounds for engineering profiles.

BITS Pilani placements 2022 was concluded with an average CTC of INR 28.99 LPA. The highest CTC for this year was INR 1.33 CPA.

Compared to IIT Guwahati, BITS Pilani offers a better campus experience, as well.

Which is better for CS, NIT (Warangal, Trichy) or BITS Pilani?

KS
Kalyan Shastri Posted On : August 19th, 2023
Lives in Warangal

NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, and BITS Pilani are all good colleges for CSE. Here is a comparison among them based on various parameters-

  1. Brand Value - RECs were rechristened as NITs and taken under the Centre’s control in 2003. On the other hand, BITS Pilani is a much older brand. However, the top NITs are as much favored by recruiters as BITS Pilani. One can say that in terms of brand value, the top 3-4 NITs are almost at par with BITS Pilani.
  2. Placements - During 2023, The CSE branch at NIT Warangal saw the highest package of INR 88 LPA and the average package of INR 30.8 LPA.

At BITS Pilani, Tech students were offered a package between INR 11 - 38 LPA. At NIT Trichy, the highest package overall stood at INR 40 LPA for the year 2022. From these figures, one can declare that at present NIT Warangal has the best placements for CSE among the three (as per the official figures).

  1. Fee- At BITS Pilani, you will be spending around three times more than the NITs for the same degree. Thus, with regard to course fees, NITs are much more affordable than BITS Pilani.
  2. Crowd - To some extent, BITS Pilani is the winner because the admissions at BITS Pilani are purely merit-based. Although, one has to consider that JEE is much more difficult than BITSAT, and in fact, many students at top NITs clear JEE advanced.

Overall, all three colleges are quite good for your CSE. In the end, it is you who has to put in the required effort.

Does anyone get a good CGPA without attending many classes in BITS Pilani?

SG
Shilpi Guha Posted On : July 19th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

One of my friends graduated from BITS Pilani and he scored a good CGPA of 9.2 in his 4th year of CSE. Following points are a few facts about the institute that might help you:

  • If you want to get a good score make sure you study hard that will later reflect in your results.
  • However, attending classes does make the preparation procedure much easier. As you will be always updated with the topics that are being discussed.
  • During your 1st year attending regular classes will be easier. But gradually it will become tougher to balance your studies and attending classes.
  • You must not neglect attending classes completely, and if you do make sure you prepare through self-study.

For any junior, I would advise them on attending as many classes as possible. You can skip the humanities and open electives but not your core subjects. Make sure even if you miss out on the classes, you cover the syllabus through self-study.

Should one take mechanical in NIT Trichy or CSE in BITS Pilani main campus?

PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : July 20th, 2023

Both NIT Trichy and BITs Pilani are prestigious institutes offering high-quality engineering education. Moreover, CSE and ME are equally good with different opportunities and prospects. So the choice between BITS Pilani CSE and NIT Trichy Mechanical depends on what your preferences and career prospects are.

BITS Pilani CSE is a great option if

  • You want to join a top private organization like Google, Facebook, Quora, Amazon, Microsoft, etc
  • Your primary goal is getting high packages even at the cost of extreme work conditions and workload
  • If you have a strong passion for coding
  • If you have no financial constraints and can afford the high BITS Pilani fees.

However, NIT Trichy Mechanical is a good option if

  • You are looking for a stable Government job through UPSC Engineering Services Examination
  • You want to go for PSUs such as IOCL, ONGC, NTPC, etc through GATE
  • If you are a research enthusiast and want to work in a research-oriented government job as a Scientist or Engineer in organizations like RDO, ISRO, BARC, etc
  • If money is your secondary preference and you primarily focus on attaining a better work-life balance.
  • If you have financial issues and BITS Pilani fees are out of your budget.

Ultimately, it’s you who can decide the right college and stream for yourself. Just remember that these are just stepping stones to success and it’s you who has to work hard to become successful.

By how much will the cutoffs decrease after the 1st round of counseling at BITS Pilani?

AS
Anubhav Sharma Posted On : July 19th, 2021
Studied at BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus

BITS Pilani conducts its own entrance test, BITS Aptitude Test (BITSAT), to admit students to its various engineering and science programs offered by its three campuses at Pilani, Hyderabad, and Goa. Generally, it is seen that the cut-offs of the first round of counseling are very much high. This is because many students tend to leave the institute after they get admission at some IITs or NITs or any other college of their choice.

The cut-offs decrease significantly in the second round of counseling. Now how much it will decrease is very difficult to predict at any stage. Each year the candidate pool is different. But if you look at the 1st round cut-off and the final round cut-off you will get the picture.

How are international students treated at BITS pilani?

RS
Rihan Singh Posted On : July 17th, 2021
B.Tech CSE at BITS Hyderabad (2020)

Only a few years back, in about 2016, BITS Hyderabad involved its very first international students batch. The international students are not that different than the rest of the batch. Half of them have spent a reasonable amount of time in India before coming to the institute.

Everyone in the institute is equally treated. There is no discrimination inside or outside the student circle. You can befriend anyone in the institute. However, there are various students who choose to recuse themselves from others. But it’s up to you how you want to spend your time at the institute.

Having said that, there has clearly not been any kind of discrimination in the institute. Once you get admission, it does not matter whether you have entered via BITSAT or SAT. Hope this helps answer your query.

What is better Btech at Bits Pilani or IPM at IIM Indore?

DT
Diksha Thapiyal Posted On : August 30th, 2021
Studied at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata

The best would be to go for a B.Tech from BITS Pilani and then an MBA degree from IIM/XLRI etc.

IPM at IIM Indore gives you an IGNOU graduate degree and then a diploma. Even though you will do the last two years together with the PGDM students selected via CAT, you won’t get the same status as them. It will take a couple of years to get acceptance. Additionally, the legality of the course is vaguely defined.

Choosing one of these options also depends on your career orientation. If you want a job in the technical field then doing a B.Tech from BITS Pilani is better. Go for IPM from IIM Indore, only if you are certain you want to get into management job roles.
