Is Thapar University good for M.Tech in computer science?
Yes, Thapar University is a good option for pursuing an MTech in Computer Science and Engineering. The program covers various areas of computer science and is designed in such a way that students can complete it solely based on advanced coursework. Some problems, however, are taught through a combination of both coursework and project work.
As for the placements, usually, 100% of the batch gets placed in some of the most reputed research laboratories and companies in the country and even across the globe.
Overall, the quality of education, the faculty pool, and the placement opportunities offered by Thapar University make it a good option for students willing to pursue an MTech in CSE.
Should I join NIT Uttrakhand, IIIT Ranchi or Thapar University for CSE?
For CSE, NIT Uttarakhand is a decent option. Given below is a brief review of NIT Uttarakhand.
Criticism:
- NIT Uttarakhand is in a remote place, away from the city. So if you are not used to living an isolated life, it will be difficult for you to adjust. Even traveling to Srinagar Garhwal will be difficult.
- The infrastructure of the college is not that great to appease you. It will feel dismaying. It is improving gradually.
Brownie Points:
- NIT is a brand. It has special importance and value to the nation. The CSE branch is always advancing and can add special talents to the industry. In this institute too, there are many talented students.
- The faculty of the institute is from renowned institutes like IITs/NITs. The professors are highly qualified and teach students proficiently on-line with the GATE syllabus.
- Students are from diverse backgrounds. They are not just from Uttarakhand, but also all other states.
- The placements of the CSE branch are elevating every year. Different recruiters give different offers to students. The recent placement statistics of the institute is as follows.

No matter how much the infrastructure lacks, the students get rewarded in the future if they work hard. Currently, IIIT Ranchi and Thapar may have better infrastructure or even placement records, but NIT Uttarakhand is improving with time and will definitely improve a lot in coming years.
How is Thapar University for doing a PhD?
Thapar University is not good for doing Ph.D. The Computer Science department is full of people who are self-involved.
Except for a few faculty members, others are not good. They will not help you in your research work and due to which you could miss deadlines.
Clearing GATE and then going for some decent college is the better option. Your thesis will be the real mirror of what you do during your entire Ph.D program. Work hard and get into one of the prestigious colleges in the country.
We can say that give your best shot in the GATE exam and get your seat reserved in some decent college, so that you gain some knowledge along with the hands-on industry training.
How is ECE faculty and placement at Thapar University?
Thapar University has a good reputation for its Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) faculty and placement. The faculty members in the ECE department at Thapar University are highly qualified and experienced in their respective fields. They are dedicated to providing quality education to their students and constantly update their knowledge and skills to stay abreast of the latest technological advancements.
Thapar University has a dedicated placement cell that works towards providing placement opportunities to the students of the ECE department. Should I choose mechanical at Thapar or ECE at BIET Jhansi?
The best advice and answer for your question would be to, “Follow your heart". This is not supposed to be cliché but the best choice that you can make would be the one where you believe your career is.
If you have a keen interest in machines, automobiles, and thermodynamics, then you must opt for Mechanical Engineering. If you hold an interest in circuit branches, then you should opt for Electrical Engineering. If you realise your niche and have an honest interest in your branch then your choice of college would not matter much as the Course curriculum for Engineering is almost the same for both colleges.
A lot of people believe that Mechanical Engineering is the toughest but you should do your research before opting for your branch. Choosing the right branch will also give you enough time to prepare for CAT while attending your college.
Thapar University can be the best option if you can afford the fee. You will be given better job opportunities once you complete the degree. BIET Jhansi is recognized in UP only and the placement opportunity is very less. A few of my friends from BIET Jhansi have often complained about lack of resources and a very competitive environment.
How is the Wi-Fi at Thapar University?
My friend studies at Thapar University and absolutely loves the internet speed there amongst other merits. Both the campus and hostels have Wi-Fi connectivity. The internet access speed has gotten better over the years. Till 2017, there was a limit to use only 1 GB in a day, but now there's no limit upon the usage.
If you are planning to stay at the hostel, you can use the Access point named 'EACCESS'. It gives a speed range between 1.1-1.4 MBPS. The academic block, library, and cafeteria work under the access name ‘TU’ and it varies from 600 kbps to 1.2 Mbps.
The fastest Internet is available at the Computer Center with a whopping speed of 500 Mbps. The Library has a LAN cable and its speed is around 100 Mbps.
Also, during exams, social networking sites like Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, etc are banned. But you can access that through proxies and other ways of access.
Which one is preferred for the electronics branch, Thapar University or Manipal main campus?
Thapar University was once a very prestigious and highly regarded institute. But now it has lost its charm and its quality of education is very low now. The main reason for the same is an increase in the intake of average students just for the sake of earning money. Dont believe the NIRF rankings as they are manipulated and misleading.
One of my friends recently chose Manipal University because the quality of the crowd is much better than Thapar University. The quality of the crowd is deteriorating because of increasing cutoffs and the huge reservation for Punjab residents. Manipal University cutoffs on the other hand are decreasing so it's able to maintain the quality of the crowd better.
So, Manipal Unversity is a preferable choice for the electronics branch.
How are the gym facilities in Thapar University?
One of my friends graduated from Thapar University and here’s some information I got to know about the gym at Thapar.
- There is no common gymnasium on the academic campus, but there are individual gyms in almost every hostel.
- If you get an FRC hostel, then there’s no gym there.
- To keep students physically fit, gym facilities are provided. Exercise can also make your mind sharper.
- Daily workouts replenished the brain’s energy stores and also produced extra energy, particularly in the areas responsible for thinking and memory.
- Exercise can increase the number of brain cells, which is also essential in learning and memory.
- A combination of all of these things can help keep the mind focused and increase work productivity and academic success in students, as well as keep the immune system strong and stress reduced.
At Thapar University, the gyms are pretty good with good equipment which are replaced mostly every year if damaged.
How good is the Thapar university cafeteria?
One of my friends graduated from Thapar University. According to him, the cafeteria at Thapar University is amazing. It is located near the academic block.
- The cafeteria is very large with a variety of tasty food items and juices.
- The food quality is also good and it is affordable to students.
- Students enjoy the cafeteria, as it is a good place to hang out with friends as well.
- Outside the cafeteria, you have an Amul booth, juice corner, and shakes available.
- Almost everything is served at Thapar University like rajma rice, Chole Bhature, Noodles, spring rolls, dal makhani, roti, etc.
The average overall rating of the cafeteria at Thapar University would be 4 out of 5 in all categories like Cleanliness or Hygiene, Taste, Varieties available and Price range. You can hang out with your peers at the cafeteria and have fun. You can also make new friends.
How is the new branch computer engineering with honours in machine language and data analytics at Thapar University?
My brother is currently pursuing CML at Thapar University and he highly recommends the course as you will get to learn a lot compared to the core CS. Here are some of the reasons why he chose this course.
- In the current industry, Data Analysis and Machine Learning have high demand. Almost every big company needs Data Scientists.
- In CML, you will get an extra degree of honors in Machine Learning and Data Analysis apart from the normal BE in CS.
- The only startup of the first year is run by students of CML.
- CML is the only branch that got a 200% increase in seats from the original plan to the second year.
