Even though it is the responsibility of the individual to decide as per what they want to opt for, yet in terms of statistics for a particular year is as briefed below:
The Mining Department of IIEST, Shibpur is nominated by the Government of India as one of the Govt. Agencies, mainly out of five, for verification of Mine Closure Activity. The institute has been the first DST FIST sponsored department as well.
A senior of mine has told me that a score of 225 would be more than enough for getting admission in electrical in IIEST Shibpur. The admission criteria are the same for applicants belonging to the home state (West Bengal) or from any other state. With that score, you can also get CST and ECE with ease.
You can also compare trying to solve the paper for the previous years for getting acquainted with the pattern. Difficulty of the exams also somewhat determines admission, especially when cutoffs change every year. According to the cutoff trends of recent years, a score of 225 should be enough to secure admission.
IIEST has a good number of clubs for all co-curricular activities. Every club is treated as a society and you’ll see an essence of the world in every club’s name.
It's a place where you can relax and relieve the academic stress carried by you throughout the day. Seniors are friendly and will help you in learning. You can also pursue your hobby as a career and these clubs help you to know if you are good in that field.
With the available varieties, you will definitely find one matching your hobby. A club intro takes place in the I-hall when you'll join here. All the club heads advertise their clubs, alluring you to join. An annual fest along with a freshers challenge with exciting prize money is organized by every club.
However, the best club in IIEST is Robodarshan- The Robotics Club. Following are the reasons for the same:
For a second option, you can go for ICHHE, a very innovative club which is newly introduced in the college and already getting a lot of students interested.
CSE is one of the trending and evergreen programs with huge demand. However, IIEST and VIT both offer excellent career opportunities in CSE. The ranking of the IIEST is 19 by NIF in the engineering category. Whereas, VIT has ranked in 18th position by NIRF. Here is more about each college in detail.
IIEST, Shibpur-

The college has 60 seats for the CSE program.
The first year fee at the campus is about 1.37 lakhs. However, students can avail of several scholarships during their academic years.
Placements:
The minimum and maximum salary of the students is 39.12 LPA and 9 LPA respectively.
The total number of offers in CSE from top companies is 82. Out of which, 51 students are placed in the top companies.

This is all about the CSE at both institutions. As for which institute will be better, it all depends on the individual choice based on several factors as mentioned above. So, choose the college that best suits you based on your preferences.
Both NIT Rourkela and IIEST Shibpur are both very well-reputed universities offering good career opportunities and courses. IIEST Shibpur has been ranked 19th by NIRF among the top colleges of India. And, NIT Rourkela is ranked at 16th by NIRF nationally.

Thus, students can apply for any of the two colleges keeping in mind the above-mentioned comparisons. NIT Rourkela and IIEST Shibpur are the two most renowned colleges in India. Nevertheless, the first thing that you have to consider is which stream you want to study and then decide a college depending upon that. Now, if you haven't decided anything and is confused between the above two streams, then studying ECE at IIEST Shibpur is a better option
No, there isn't any written exam for Engineering Drawing at the end of the semester exam. Yet, there may be a class test. The number of questions may vary but the questions won't be difficult and the examination is usually three hours. There would be three questions, out of which the students are required to answer any two.
After the class test, you may have to perform a viva-voce. A very limited time will be given to you to roughly draw whatever the professors say but it all depends on the professors who take the class. There may be only a class test, or only a viva-voce, or maybe nothing at all.
The important thing is that you have to complete all the plates or at least try to finish 90% and all the home assignments. If the students do that then the class test will go well for you. The viva-voce doesn't hold many marks. Also, try to be present in every ED class. Otherwise, you may not be able to finish.
To be very clear, you will not be given the option to choose your own hostel in the first year. The authority allots the hostels after entire admission process is completed. After the student reports at the respective hostel and registers his/her name, rooms are allotted.
In general, first-year boys are provided accommodation in Hostel 8, Hostel 9 and Hostel-10. On the other hand, first-year girls are given accommodation in Nivedita.
Some brief information regarding the allotment, change, and experiences in hostels are listed below:
Making friends out of an unknown crowd is needed in the first year of college. Staying with known people is not as interesting as making new friends out of roommates. Discussing different topics during a hangout, getting some private time because of different class timing, and enjoying life in the hostel rooms become a part of life in those glorious years.
One of my friends studied at IIEST Shibpur. According to him, it is a better option for pursuing mining engineering after ISM Dhanbad.

IIEST Shibpur has students who are performing excellently in industries too. India’s top mining industries mostly recruit IIEST students. IIEST students also participated in technical festivals.
Therefore, if you are thinking of making your career in mining then IIEST Shibpur over NIT Raipur. As IIEST Shibpur has a good faculty, placement record, and student environment.
NIT Bhopal also called MANIT (Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology) is approved by MHRD and AICTE. It is ranked 65 for BTech and 101 overall by NIRF 2020. BTech in Electrical Engineering is offered as a 4 year full time course.
IIEST is considered to be one of the top engineering colleges in India. It is ranked 43 overall and 21 for BTech by NIRF 2020. The Mechanical Engineering dual degree is a 10 semester course with 3 specializations: Machine Design, Thermal Engineering and Manufacturing Science.

Both the colleges are reputed and are considered the top Engineering colleges in India. A BTech degree is of 4 years, if you want to opt for a dual degree you will receive an MTech degree too all in the span of 5 years. The choice depends on you and your preferences, both are equally important and respected institutions for Engineering.
Any college can be good for competitive programming. It all relies on you to educate yourself, to learn new strategies, and to spend hours coding.
Lastly, don't support the myth that the only way to prove yourself as a coder is competitive programming. There are other coding fields as well. In this sense, do not consider that there was no "real coder" in IIEST because there was no competitive coding pattern previously in IIEST (BESU back then).
Some of the alumni of the institute are working in top companies in India and overseas and have never been interested in competitive coding.
