Energy Science from IIT Bombay is the better option. IIT Bombay is among the top engineering institutes in the country. Pursuing a degree from the institute will give you excellent exposure and opportunities. According to the recent highlights of IIT Bombay placements, students of MTech Energy Systems Engineering received a median CTC of around INR 12.25 LPA. How do the placements really compare between IIT Delhi B.Tech Computer Science Engineering and IIT Bombay B.Tech Mechanical Engineering?

A
AstralApricotTart Posted On : April 17th, 2026

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Computer Science offers a strong ROI with high internship opportunities from top companies like Amazon and Google, despite the higher fee structure of around 20 lakhs. This investment can pay off well in the tech field, which is booming. In contrast, IIT Bombay's B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering has a similar fee but may not deliver the same level of placement offers, especially given the current economic climate.

If you’re inclined towards tech and want to maximize your job prospects, IIT Delhi is the smarter choice for 2025. However, if you have a passion for mechanical engineering and the broader opportunities it provides, IIT Bombay is still a solid option.

IIT Bombay's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering offers a significant edge in placements and internship opportunities compared to IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Civil Engineering. IIT Bombay attracts top tech firms like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft, with students often receiving higher packages, including offers that can exceed 2.65 crore. On the other hand, while IIT Delhi's civil engineering program has its strengths, the placement scenarios are generally less lucrative, especially in tech-driven roles. If you're leaning towards a tech career with better job prospects and packages, IIT Bombay is the clear choice; however, if your passion lies in civil engineering and you're less concerned about tech salaries, IIT Delhi is a solid option.

In my opinion, IIT Delhi's Electrical Engineering (Power) is the better choice if your long-term goal is a solid job. Contrary to popular belief, there isn't a boom in Civil Engineering right now.

However, keep in mind that Electrical Engineering (Power) is a very challenging branch!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Civil Engineering offers a significantly lower tuition fee compared to IIT Bombay's B.Tech in Computer Science, which typically ranges much higher. While IIT Delhi students can expect a total cost of around 4-5 lakhs due to tuition exemptions, IIT Bombay's costs can soar to 12-13 lakhs. In terms of placements, IIT Bombay's Computer Science program has the edge with top tech giants and higher salary packages, making it a better ROI for students aiming for lucrative careers in tech. If you’re passionate about civil engineering and want a cost-effective education, IIT Delhi is a great choice. However, if you're inclined towards a high-paying tech career and can manage the higher fees, IIT Bombay is likely the smarter financial investment.

If you have a better branch/college combination, like BITS Pilani/Goa CSE/EE or IIT B or D CS/EE/Mech, then definitely go for those!

Also, if you’re getting CSE/EE at IIT Guwahati or Roorkee, the career opportunities in those streams would be much better!

IIT Delhi for Civil Engineering and IIT Bombay for Electrical Engineering both have their strengths, but when it comes to fees and ROI, IIT Bombay may offer better financial value. IIT Delhi's estimated cost is around 4-5 lakh for those exempt from tuition, while IIT Bombay likely has higher fees, especially for non-reserved category students. Placement opportunities at IIT Bombay seem more lucrative, especially with tech giants consistently recruiting, making it a better bet for a higher salary post-graduation. If you're passionate about Civil Engineering and want a slightly lower financial burden, go for IIT Delhi; however, if you're leaning towards higher earning potential in Electrical Engineering, IIT Bombay is the smarter financial choice.

IIT Delhi’s B.Tech Energy Engineering is a solid choice if you’re looking for a more affordable option with a tuition fee of 1 lakh per semester compared to IIT Bombay’s B.Tech Computer Science Engineering, which has higher fees and a more extensive curriculum. While IIT Bombay has impressive placement stats and a broader range of companies visiting, IIT Delhi offers good ROI with decent placements starting from the 5th semester. If you value an engaging campus life and more manageable fees, IIT Delhi is a smarter financial choice. However, if you’re aiming for high-paying tech roles and can afford the investment, IIT Bombay could be worth it. Ultimately, choose IIT Delhi for budget-friendly education and IIT Bombay for premium tech opportunities.
