ET Lucknow is an autonomous constituent college of Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU). It is considered one of the tier 3 engineering colleges in the state and most of the students from the institute pass out with an average salary of INR 3 – 4 lakhs per annum to work as clerks in service-based companies which cannot be termed great in any sense.
Electrical Engineering as a discipline is also very dead and there will be very few core companies who will offer jobs.
The skills demanded by the industry are not being supplied by the students and thus placements are lower. If the colleges start implementing changes and upskill their students the situation will definitely improve. But as it stands today, the placements are grim.
The major factor that drives the decision of which course to pursue is the placements.
Chemical Engineering- IIT Roorkee
As per the 2018-19 placements record, more than 250 companies participated in campus placements, some of them were ITC, Reliance, Jindal Steel, TATA, and many more. Chemical Engineering Students at IIT Roorkee recorded an average placement of INR 13.05 lakhs per annum. A total of 8 PPOs were offered to Chemical Engineering students. Roles were offered for Technologist, Researcher, Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Consultant, etc. The placement rate for Chemical Engineering was around 80%.
ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar
ECE is one of the new branches of IIT Bhubaneswar and was introduced in 2016. Due to this, the first batch to pass out would be the batch of 2020. So there are no past records for this course. However, seeing the trend of placements for electrical engineering, the same can be assumed for ECE as well. In the year 2018-2019, 86% of the Electrical Engineering Department was placed. Companies like Amazon, INTEL Technology, ISRO, DELL, Thermax, Tata Steel, and many more visited to recruit students during campus placements. The average placement was recorded at INR Rs. 11.44 lakhs per annum.
EEE at IIT Mandi
As per 2019-20 placements, 62.5% of EEE were placed during phase-1 of campus placements. A total of 75 companies visited the campus and some of the top recruiters were Accenture, Wipro, CISCO, ISRO, CSC India, Siemens to name a few. The average package offered was 13.5 lakhs per annum. Several PPOs were also offered.
Considering the placements data, you should choose Chemical Engineering at IIT Roorkee. However, the final decision of which course and college to select rests up to you.
IIT Indore is a better choice than IIT Bhubaneswar for the EE Departments. I am a second year B.Tech Electrical Engineering student at IIT Bhubaneswar. In B.Tech Electrical, you will study topics like power systems, electronics, control systems, etc.
The Electrical department at IIT Bhubaneswar has highly qualified faculty members with expertise in various subfields of electrical engineering. Under their guidance, you can work on interesting research projects in this field.
The department has good placement records, and you’ll get the opportunity to work for industries related to electrical engineering, power sectors, automation, etc.
Here are the 2023 placement details for B.Tech ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar and B.Tech CSE at Jadavpur University:
| Parameters | B.Tech ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar | B.Tech CSE at Jadavpur University |
|---|---|---|
| Percentage Placed | 90.91% | 90% |

| Lowest CTC | INR 9.65 LPA | - |
| Average CTC | INR 22.85 LPA | INR 21.60 LPA |
| Median CTC | INR 18 LPA | - |
Based on my personal experience, I can assure you that B.Tech ECE from IIT Bhubaneswar is a good choice.
Electrical Engineering at IIT (BHU) has a well-documented and strong placement record, with high placement rates (81–86%) and top packages reaching up to ?1.68 crore per annum (in B.Tech overall, with Electrical also benefitting from high offers).
The Max CTC for Electronics Engineering is ?50 LPA for 2024–2025, which is less than the highest mentioned for Electrical. However, placement details for Electronics Engineering are less commonly recorded. This might, however, represent a single offer or a particular position rather than the branch's highest or average overall.
Both branches are highly sought after and have strong industry connections, but Electrical Engineering currently has more publicly available and impressive placement statistics.
In my opinion, ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar is better than CSE at NITK.
This question can only have a subjective answer. I have myself done my B.Tech EE from IIT Madras, but I would recommend you consider several factors before arriving at a decision-
Your subject of interest matters a lot, even more than your college. Make sure to select the branch that interests you. Take a good look at the curriculum and course offerings of both these options, and find out which of them aligns with your career/academic goals. Also consider the specialization opportunities offered by each option.
Look at the research interests and projects undertaken by faculty members of each program. Realize whose interests align with you the most. Getting into research work at UG level will only be beneficial for you. Take a visit to both the institutes or consult some seniors to find out which one offers better infrastructure, campus life and other facilities.
Personally speaking, I’ve had an excellent experience at the Electrical department of IIT Madras. So, if you don’t have a particular interest in CS, you may very well consider EE at IITM.
I don’t have much idea about IT at IIT Allahabad or electrical engineering at ISM Dhanbad, however being a student of Civil Engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar, I can surely help you with some insights.
Both IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT KGP are well-recognized academic institutions famous for their extensive offerings in the fields of Engineering, technology and management. I don’t have much idea about IIT KPG but I can surely guide you on IIT Bhubaneswar ultimately the choice depends on your career goals and personal preferences.
