I want to get into IIM Bangalore without work experience is that possible?
One of my friends studied at IIM Bangalore. According to him, work experience is definitely important for IIM Bangalore.
- There are other ways through which you can join IIM Bangalore and one of them is by clearing your CAT examination. Your score should be around 99.90+.
- Another way is having a great academic profile. You should have work experience of being associated with a certain firm or organization.
- A certain extracurricular activity that you were a part of in your college life could improve your profile.
- Your academic score is anticipated to be 90% and above in the 10th and 12th boards.
- You must have secured 70%-80% in your graduation.
This would be an ideal profile suitable to be a part of IIM Bangalore.

If IIM KI is 8/10 (ABC being 10/10) where does IIM Shillong and IIM Trichy stand?
Here are my ratings for the IIMs
- IIM Ahmedabad Bangalore Calcutta: 10
- IIM Lucknow: 9
- IIM Kozhikode and Indore: 7.9
- Other second-generation IIMs: 7.6
- New third generation IIMs: 6.8
The above rankings have been done on the basis of age, placements, and research. I don’t think these factors are enough to rank IIMs.
Another major parameter of comparison is the duration of the establishment.
- First generation: (est before 1984) Ahmedabad Bangalore Calcutta Lucknow
- Second generation: (est. before 2000) Indore and Kozhikode
- Third generation: (est. around 2009) - Ranchi, Raipur, Rohtak, Trichy, Udaipur, Kashipur, Shillong
- Fourth Generation: New IIMs (after 2014) - 7 IIMs
Most of the FT rankings and online rankings are based on this parameter. In reality, every IIM has top-notch faculty, infrastructure and placements m. Yet the new IIMs will take some time to reach the top.
Is it true that IIM Bangalore gives calls to toppers of board exams even at 99 percentile range? What is the minimum percentile at which such converts occur?
For 2024-2026 batch, IIM Bangalore has revised its shortlisting criteria for PGP. These are the new weightage awarded to different qualification stages-
- The CAT 2023 weightage has been increased to 55%
- Class 10th weightage has been reduced to 15%
- Class 12th weightage has been increased to 15%
- No weightage is assigned to graduation marks
- Gender diversity weightage has been increased to 5%
- Work Experience weightage has been increased to 10%
- No weightage has been assigned for academic diversity
Thus, for PGP 2024, those who get a high score in the 10th and 12th boards have an improved chance of receiving a call from IIM Bangalore. Though the minimum score is not mentioned, unlike before, the 10th and 12th scores have been assigned equal weightage.
Also, the weightage for the CAT score will significantly increase from 40% to 55%.
Make sure to perform well in your CAT. A good academic background is very much necessary. Work experience also carries a 10% weightage for the shortlisting process.
How can you compare ISB's CBA vs IIM Bangalore's BAI courses?
Some of my friends are studying in both the institutes and according to their firsthand experience, both the courses differ from each other. For a clearer view, you must take a look at the major pros and cons of both of them.
Pros:
ISB CBA:
- ISB CBA has a great campus and you will be lucky to have a global faculty.
- You will get tremendous networking opportunities with 100+ batches as you will be among brilliant talents.
- Most of the pedagogy includes offline methods whereas online teaching is only limited to tutorials.
- Some of the best Faculties in the institute are Prof Shailesh, Prof Sarang Deo, Prof Arun, and Prof Sudhir Voleti.
- As the CBA course is a full-time course, you will also benefit by getting the ISB Brand Value. This might help you get recognition.
IIM Bangalore BAI:
- You will get global faculty and excellent peers to be with.
- No one can compete with IIM’s brand value.
- As the course is mostly offered in online mode, it is quite ideal if you are a working person.
Cons:
- ISB CBA: The fees are quite expensive for most middle-class students. There should be more career opportunities that justify the cost.
- IIM Bangalore BAI: You are not allowed to stay within the campus which significantly reduces your chances to enjoy vast networking.
Both the courses come with their own pros and cons while holding a big brand value, therefore the decision lies in your hand.
How can you compare ISB’s CBA vs IIM Bangalore’s BAI courses?
Both ISB’s CBA and IIM Bangalore’s BAI are vastly different from one another. The following are some of the advantages and disadvantages of both. CBA at ISB:
Pros:
- Global Faculty and a very good campus are available to CBA students for the entire year, just like PGP students.
- Very good networking opportunity with 100+ batch as you live on campus with them sharing food, time, and fun.
- As the 5th batch of CBA graduates, the alumni base is strong.
- Except for tutorials, the teaching method is primarily offline.
- Prof Shailesh, Prof Sarang Deo, Prof Arun, and Prof Sudhir Voleti are some of the best faculty in the market.
- ISB Brand Value because ISB promotes this course as a full-time option.
Cons:
- One of the main factors is the high cost.
- They should raise prices slightly and offer more career opportunities.
IIM B or L:
Pros:
- Global Faculty and Excellent Peers
- IIM Brand Worth.
- More suitable for working people is the online method.
- In comparison to ISB, the fees are minor.
Cons:
- You are not permitted to stay on campus, which limits your opportunities to network with your peers.
- Although IIM promotes this as an executive course, it is more appropriate to take it offline because concepts are difficult to grasp online.
Is there 100% placements in IIM Bangalore?
Yes, IIM Bangalore enjoys 100% placement rates. IIM Bangalore Placement 2022 witnessed higher salary packages than last year with a rise of 16.7% in average salary.
The Placement 2022 for the large batch of 513 students of PGP and PGP-Business Analytics was completed in just two days with a 37% rise in the number of offers. 662 placement offers were rolled out to 513 students by the marquee companies from across all sectors and domains.
What is the placement of IIM Bangalore and Calcutta Which will be better
You cannot determine which institution is better just by looking at data. Figures tend to mislead you. Rather than relying on just statistics, you need to choose what’s best for you. All the top IIMs are top-notch B Schools. But you need to make a choice based on your personal preference. I have mentioned the specifications of some famous B Schools.

IIM Calcutta: It is rightly called the finance campus of India. If you are interested in Investment Banking, hedge funds, or venture capital firms then IIM Calcutta is the best choice.

Choose your college based on your aspirations and not on the basis of placement statistics.
What is my probability to get into IIM Bangalore? I have 97 percentile, OBC, work ex of 25 months.
Your probability to get into IIM Bangalore depends on a lot more than just your CAT percentile and work experience. IIM Bangalore gives a lot of emphasis on past academic records which you haven’t mentioned.
IIM Bangalore selection procedure comprises 2 phases. The first phase includes shortlisting the candidates for the personal interviews which is done on the basis of CAT score.The sectional CAT cut-off for OBC Category is mentioned in the table below:

Is it necessary to be an IITian or a topper to get admission to IIM Ahmedabad or Bangalore?
It’s not at all necessary to be an IITian or a topper to get admission to IIM Ahmedabad or Bangalore. Some students are neither batch toppers nor IITians. In fact, some of them do not even finish first in their class in 12th grade.
You must perform well in interviews (both IIM A and B), have a good CAT score, and demonstrate consistent academic performance. And consistent academic performance in college means a CGPA of 9.1/10.
I am interested in a quantitative finance-oriented Ph.D., so should I apply for an FPM in the Finance/Control area or Decision Sciences in IIM Bangalore?
Firstly IIM Bangalore does not offer FMP in Maths because it does not specialize in Maths. So if you are going for the quantitative field you need to choose an area of interest on your own.
In India Finance has more to do with economics rather than Maths. This is because of the lack of Maths in UG and PG schools. So the research work has a qualitative approach rather than a quantitative one. Here math is just used to express the research conducted and is not for actual research purposes. So based on this information, I have 3 suggestions for you
- If you are hell-bent on pursuing mathematical finance, do it outside India where the score is higher.
- Applying in both areas will widen your prospects. The only requirement is that you must do your area-specific courses.
- Don’t neglect other areas of finance that are very interesting and also quantitative. These include Corporate Finance or Banking.
Based on my suggestions and information you can make a wise decision that suits you the best.
