Firstly contact your college’s Administration department. The college usually conducts counselling for change of branch right after first year examinations. This is decided on the basis of your marks in the first year.
Your principal or the Admission in charge will help you throughout the entire process.
If you have a GATE Scorecard, you will be able to secure a place on the PSIT for mechanical engineering. This is because of the availability of the one Interview Round. But try applying online or calling them for any opening if you are a graduate. They will inform you and organize an interview if they find you relevant.
Whether you will be appointed as a faculty or laboratory assistant according to your qualification. You will continue to work for approximately 2 years as Lab Assistant.
In terms of actual placement at the campus, top recruitment firms like Infosys, Capgemini, TCS, Tech Mahindra, and Wipro visit the campus. Students are given leading jobs such as assistant system engineer, software developer, and business analyst.
The top salary package provided is 26 LPA and the lowest pay package is 3 LPA. The average package available is 3.6 LPA.
In order to better understand the concept, PSIT offers E-classrooms, laboratories, workshops, and training. It focuses not only on teaching academic information but also on implementing it in practice, and hence their practicals are given some importance compared to lectures.

Moreover, the academic environment is much better at NIT Silchar than at IIIT Guwahati. As for the location, NIT Silchar is gradually overcoming all connectivity issues and the situation is only going to get better.
Ultimately, the final choice depends on your preferences. If you are inclined towards Mechanical, choose NIT Silchar but if you want to pursue a career in CS, definitely go for IIIT Guwahati.
All of the options you've mentioned are reputable institutions with strong programs in their respective fields. However, the best choice for you will depend on your individual interests, goals, and priorities.
Lastly, my suggestion would be to target top NITs instead and not go for a mediocre branch. Additionally, you may want to reach out to current students or alumni of each institution to get a sense of their experiences.
IIITDM Kancheepuram Mechanical is better in comparison. The department has four branches under the norms of Design and Manufacturing. The academics are practical-oriented. IIITDM follows an updated curriculum that is different from the traditional course structure of most engineering colleges. The Mechanical faculties are great. Most of them have PhDs qualifications from reputed IITs and NITs.
IIITDM Kancheepuram placements are good for Mechanical. Students of the branch get recruited as Project leads, Supervisors, Design Operators, etc. The average CTC for the branch is around INR 7 LPA.
There has always been a stereotype that Mechanical Engineering is better suited for male than female students. Girls are pushed to take other courses like Electronics or Computer Science because they are said not to possess the physical strength required for the fieldwork in Mechanical Engineering. Even in top engineering colleges, it is seen that the male to female gender ratio is 140:10 which is fairly low as compared to other branches.
The choice of a branch to pursue should entirely depend on the individual. If a female candidate is interested to pursue Mechanical Engineering, she should be able to make that decision without apprehension. We are in the 21st century and it is high time we free ourselves of stereotypes which cause hindrance in maintaining gender equality through society.
Mechanical Engineering doesn’t always need the aspirant to work on the field as it opens up opportunities for other fields too like Machine Design and CAD, Robotics and Mechatronics, Structural Analysis, etc. However, an individual, be it any gender, should be able to choose their career freely even if they are interested in pursuing a career in fieldwork after studying Mechanical Engineering.
IIT Bhubaneswar provides a strong faculty base and learning environment for students to pursue M.Tech. A few of the subject matters include Theory of Machines, Design of Machine elements, Power Plant Engineering, Artificial Intelligence & Neuro-Fuzzy Theory, etc. In the year 2018-19, 83% of students got placed from the Mechanical branch and the average salary offered was INR 11.44 LPA. Top recruiters included companies like TATA Steel, Maruti Suzuki, and PSUs like DRDO, ISRO, IOCL etc.
Yes, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering is good for Mechanical Engineering. Be it faculty, labs, department, infrastructure, branch, or any other aspect, the college is a perfect fit.
The only disadvantage of DSCE Bangalore is that it doesn't provide any offers from core companies. The students of the mechanical branch end up getting a job in the IT sector. If any core job offers are available, these companies will only hire students in single digit.
Companies like Accenture, Cognizant, Infosys, and Tech Mahindra hire students irrespective of the branches.
If a job in the IT sector suits you after graduating from the mechanical branch, then you can opt for Dayanand Sagar College for Engineering as it is the best college. It will furnish a job but in the IT sector.
Surely, Metallurgy at PEC over Mechanical in UIET. There are various important reasons behind this: Placements in PEC are better, companies like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc. visit campus for placements.
Though metallurgy has fewer placements than other branches in PEC, once you are in PEC and if you are focused enough, you can go for an upgrade after 1st semester on the basis of CGPA. To aim for it, keep the following things in mind -
|
Categories |
Mechanical Engineering at UIET Chandigarh |
Metallurgy at PEC Chandigarh |

Course Fee |
82197 (1st year) |
6.39 lakh |
|
Highest CTC |

Average CTC |

7.5 LPA |

ZS Associates, Amazon, JP Morgan, JSW Steels, etc. |
PEC is far superior to UIET in terms of cultural and other extracurricular activities. If you don't have any branch priorities, I'd recommend metallurgy in PEC.
