You should go for PEC Chandigarh Mechanical. The institute offers decent placements and career opportunities. The placement rate for Mechanical is around 90%. Companies visiting PEC Chandigarh placements recruit students in both core and non-core profiles. The salary packages offered are in the range of INR 3.6 LPA - 22 LPA.
Also, Production is a niche branch. The career opportunities available in the production field are limited compared to the Mechanical field.
The chances are very bleak and almost non-existent.
Nowadays, PEC is going through a space crunch, since the number of seats has been increased by a large amount in recent years. Authorities give top priority to students from outside the Chandigarh quota.
New hostels are being considered and Shivalik Hostel was recently expanded into a new block, the lack of rooms to house all of the students comfortably is still a sore point. The number of seats has increased but hostel capacity remained the same.
Hence, by chance, if Hostels do not get filled up completely, you can definitely get a hostel at PEC. So, unless a new batch of students shows a great reduction in hostlers, you should not expect to get accommodations in the hostel.
You have a chance of getting into PEC with AIR 70000 on the board and Chandigarh quota, but branch preference can be an issue. Production and Metallurgy are the branches you are qualified for. You can wait until the spot round as this rank might put you in this branch.

If you are from the general category, then it might be a problem. But if you have some other quota also, then it will improve your chances. You can get admission as far as just admission is concerned.
Both Mechanical and metallurgical engineering at Thapar and PEC Chandigarh have their own pros and cons. Let's list them out to opt for the best college for you.
PEC Chandigarh:
Thapar University:
Unless you are into metallurgical sciences it's better to opt for mechanical engineering as you can even jump into both technical and non-technical firms.

Out of the above two, ME at PEC seems like a better option. PEC being a government institute has half the tuition fee of Thapar University which saves you a lot. If you plan on an MBA further, it's better to opt the best out of two and start preparing from the first year of your college itself.
Yes the LAN facilities are available but using DC++ is prohibited in the whole campus. Let us discuss them in detail, which might give you a clear idea.
Few tips with the internet connection on campus:
To sum up, the PEC campus has WiFi and LAN facilities but using DC++ is blocked. Signal strength is pretty decent.
The fee payment procedure for NRI students admitted through Direct Admission for Students Abroad (DASA) is simple but a little different than their Indian counterparts. This is because whatever may be your currency, USD or Pound or anything, you have to pay your fee in INR currency.
The whole procedure is given below in points for a better understanding –
There are no other charges to be paid and the process is fairly straightforward as well. You can definitely approach the college administration for any difficulty arising during the process.
This totally depends on your choices and interests. As the college administration is unknown towards your logical mind in doing computer programming all day or managing a manufacturing unit.
If you choose Mechanical Engineering as a branch, it is far better than Computers, where the second one is more subjective than the first one. For this reason, you can easily become an expert in computer programming, and it is not so easy to become a mechanical engineering expert.

But if you are interested in mechanical, or want to appear in IES after completing the BTech degree, then studying mechanical from MNNIT will be the best decision for you.
Besides, if you want to take Computer Science to be settled in top MNCs, studying CSE in PEC will be the best decision for you, rather than studying it in NIT K.
The choice must be done purely based on your interest. If you are not that interested in coding and if you take a lot of time to understand the core language, there is no point in opting CS even if it's in high demand. Once you enjoy what you are learning you will succeed in your job position. Otherwise, there is no point in being hung up in a course which you don't enjoy and for four years or even for the rest of your life.

If you don't have a specific preference and you are okay with either CS or civil, then clearly assess college reputation, placement stats, and other opportunities in the respective fields which are briefed out below.
As a branch CSE is on top when compared to Civil. But when you compare PEC and UIET, PEC has an upper hand. Set your priorities straight and opt for the best college for you.
Among all the above choices, PEC Chandigarh is preferred due to the scenario of placement, which is better compared to the others. Do not depend on the NIT or IIIT tag as PEC holds a better reputation as an educational institution.

Placement (Winning Institute- PEC Chandigarh)
Students and Curriculum
To conclude, though PEC being an excellent institute in terms of placement, is still unnoticed by most people due to the absence of an IIT or NIT tag. This is an advantage for NIT Raipur or IIIT Naya Raipur or any other IIIT to stand a step ahead in terms of fame.
My brother had the option of VIT for CSE on merit still he chose PEC metallurgy. There are various reasons as to why he took that decision:
|
Categories |
ECE at VIT Vellore |
Metallurgy at PEC Chandigarh |
|
Course Fee |
7.83 lakh |
6.39 lakh |
|
Highest CTC |
21 LPA |
17.75 LPA |

Average CTC |

7.5 LPA |

Recruiting Companies |
Deloitte, Bank of America, IBM, HCL, etc. |
ZS Associates, Amazon, JP Morgan, JSW Steels, etc. |
I personally believe VIT is overrated because a friend who did not even pass mains received 2000 AIR in VITEEE. In the CBSE 2016 boards, he scored 78 percent, which was below average.
