How good is Pondicherry Engineering College for doing M.Tech in Computer science? How good are its placement stats for M.Tech?

AD
Abhishek Dasgupta Posted On : June 22nd, 2021
B.Tech, Mechanical Engineer from Pondicherry Engineering College

If you are considering Engineering colleges from Pondicherry alone then choosing PEC is the best choice. You will receive similar placement opportunities as that of the BTech students at the institute.

Companies like TCS, HCL, Aricent, Sapient, SAP, Subex, and few start-ups visit the campus for placement drives.

There is no difference in packages that are offered to BTech graduates and MTech graduates unless you negotiate on your behalf.

Another crucial thing for MTech at PEC is choosing the right project guide. Your project quality will depend a lot on the guide. It is of utmost importance for postgraduates. So, choose a difficult project and don’t entirely depend on your guide for the work. Do courses on online platforms like Coursera to learn about necessary things.

So, choose PEC, only if you are willing to go the extra mile by yourself.

Is M.Tech in CSE from IIT Bhubaneswar good?

NR
Nikhil Ranjan Posted On : January 19th, 2021
M.Tech Computer Science, IIT Bhubaneswar (2015)

M.Tech in CSE from any IIT across India has seen the maximum package offered to its students from all departments in campus placement.

Details listed below state an overview of M.Tech CSE from IIT Bhubaneswar.

Average Salary Offered

15.8 Lakh

GATE Cut-off score

625 (Round 1)

Eligibility

60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in B.E./ B.Tech in CSE/IT

No. of Seats

20

Mentioned below are some statistics regarding the past placement records:

  • In 2017-2018, CSE has seen a 52% placement, 62% in 2018-2019, and straight to 97% in 2019-2020, which is a huge increment.
  • Batches of 2018 and 2019 have had complaints regarding placement and marked them as an average graded result.
  • The 2020 batch has seen a tremendous increase in both the count and the average CTC offered.
  • The overall average in IIT Bhubaneswar is 15.8 lakhs in the last year, the average of CSE being even higher than that.

The current M.Tech in the CSE batch got exclusive opportunities in the R&D departments in companies. They got a decent package and a satisfying job at the same time.

Overall, IIT Bhubaneswar, though being a newer IIT and comes in priorities after IISc, ISI, older IITs, DTU, NSUT, etc. is still a decent option for M.Tech in CSE to get enough opportunities in reputed MNCs and grab a handsome salary package at the same time.

What should I join IIT Roorkee or IIT Hyderabad for MTech CSE?

RH
Rakhi Hinduja Posted On : November 29th, 2022
PhD in Computer Science, Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IITH)

If you want to see rank-wise, of course, IIT Roorkee is the best option and you will notice a difference in a variety of parameters, but IIT Hyderabad is also a good option because it has good faculty members and offers all advanced courses. Placements are also good here. As a result, both are relatively similar.

Both are excellent Mtech programs, but IIT Roorkee has an advantage over IIT Hyderabad due to the older IIT and its superior research environment.

Which one is considered better, IIT Hyderabad for an M.Tech CSE (RA) or BITS Pilani for CSE?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : May 20th, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

Before I begin, let me clear the misconception that the 3-year MTech program is inferior in quality to the 2-year MTech program. Because of this false assumption, the higher ranking MTech students tend to choose the 2-year MTech programs instead of the 3-year program.

Similarity

  • In reality, the credibility of the degree you are awarded and the credits requirement of both programs are equal.

Differences

  • The difference is that you will have to invest more time in your RA (research assistantship) duties. 3 year MTech is funded from research projects so you will be working on research projects quite early. 3 years are more than enough to get publications with the right determination and hard work. This is extremely beneficial for higher studies as well as making the most out of your skills.

Both IIT Hyderabad and IIT Bombay offer 3-year MTech programs. There may be some other IITs as well offering similar programs.

Between BITS and IIT Hyderabad, I think the latter is a better option from a research point of view. Additionally, IIT Hyderabad also has a locational advantage, better connectivity, industry, expert interactions, etc.

Should I choose 5 years (I.T. + robotics) at IIIT Allahabad or 5 years CSE at IIEST Shibpur?

RR
Radhika Roy Posted On : March 24th, 2021
Studied B.Tech at IIEST Shibpur (2019)

There’s no doubts about the fact that 5 years at IIITA is a smarter option compared to anything else. This is because of the simple calculation that you are going to study the same curriculum for 4 years BTech for 3 years. That is all about the core of CS and IT. One core and two electives are a part of the fourth year in a 4-year BTech program, which hardly makes any difference.

According to the experts, Robotics is the future of the IT industry and hence, finding yourself in the midst of such an academically enriching atmosphere which ensures a full time access to a premium robotics laboratory and esteemed faculty will certainly do good to you in more ways than you can ever imagine. That’s the kind of right exposure you are looking at.

Moreover, this department at IIIT Allahabad is being funded by MHRD, thus having a lot of helpful and positive influence from the big academic and administrative circles from all over the country. A number of international conferences sponsored by IEEE are held here regularly. A DST funded summer school of robotics is also a part of this institute. IIIT Allahabad is known to have multiple MOUs with various popular foreign universities and has extensive student exchange programs to give the best exposure of the industry and experts to its students.
