Is BITS Pilani "Pilani campus" better than IIT Roorkee or IIT Guwahati?
In my opinion, both BITS Pilani and IIT Roorkee are in the same league while IIT Guwahati is a bit inferior to them. Let’s discuss further on the basis of some very common aspects
- Core subjects: BITS Pilani does not focus on core subjects and the research culture is also very inactive. This is because of the extremely laid-back curriculum and attendance policy. The research opportunities offered are very less in comparison to IITs
- Placements: In this aspect, BITS Pilani definitely fairs better with its flagship Practice School program. Students of this program receive many PPOs from top companies during internships arranged by the college itself.
- Campus life: IMHO BITS offers the best campus life owing to the student-driven culture and great academic flexibility.
- Performance: The institutes can be evaluated on the basis of the performance of their students in various entrance exams. IIT Roorkee students score the best in GATE, UPSC, etc. while BITS Pilani scores well in CAT, GMAT, and GRE.
- Peer groups: The average student quality of both the institutes is somewhat similar with IIT Roorkee giving a slight edge to BITS Pilani in this aspect.
Both the colleges have their own strengths and weaknesses and comparing them is illogical. I would say that if you are genuinely interested in CSE, then Pilani will be better for you than Roorkee. But if you aren’t certain of your area of interest then choose IIT Roorkee for its IIT tag.

No, you will regret choosing BITS Pilani due to the village life. How do I select electives at BITS Pilani?
In the basics, you have three types of electives they are,
- Humanities (famous courses like PAVA, Gita, and Globalization)
- Discipline (like Data mining and machine learning for CS)
- Open Electives (This can include electives offered as Discipline, Humanities, or Management.)
Key points to be noted while selecting the electives
- Grades – Some electives, like humanities, with higher median GPA will help you increase your CGPA
- Interest – Basically, you need to give importance to your interests. If you choose humanities out of interest, then you can expect a good score
- Jargon – If you are not interested in continuing with your selected elective option, then you have the option to withdraw, which won’t affect your CGPA. You also have the choice to substitute or add on based on your preference
Which is better, BITS Pilani CSE or IIT Patna CSE?
Without any second thought, BITS Pilani is much better than Chatham IIT Patna. The IIT Patna campus is recently built and thus is not fully operational and lacks several facilities. Additionally, BITS Pilani has a better alumni pool than IIT Patna as it is older and has 4 branches.

How hard is it to score a 9.8+ CGPA in BITS Pilani?
It is not that difficult to maintain a 9.8+ CGPA over the course of a semester, but it is pretty hard in the first semester; you actually need to score 10 points to reach the goal. In the following semesters, you can be among the top 10 with good interaction with teachers during the lectures and a good performance in the class tests. The decision should be completely based on your interests. It is always better to choose a course that has ample opportunities; otherwise, you will end up jobless. You have to maintain a good CGPA to get a placement here since the competition level is very high. BITS Pilani is comparatively better at academics and placement support than BITS, Goa, or Hyderabad.
When it comes to the selection of the course, Electronics and Instrumentation are a bit difficult for scoring a good CGPA. After this course, you are open to both CSE and EEE fields for your higher studies (based on the electives you have selected).
CSE is comparatively better, which opens up high opportunities and BITS across India provides placement support for students with good CGPA
