How do I score a CGPA of 10 in BITS, Pilani?

A determined mindset and dedication are the keys here. It is not that easy to score a CGPA of 10, especially at an institute like BITS Pilani. You need to put in a lot more effort in the first semester. Here are some tips given below to score a good CGPA

Online Courses – It is better to seek the help of some online courses, which are way better than the outdated standards of BITS. Try to learn more specializations online

Research and Projects – Try to make a good impression with the scholars, choose the right mentor for your project, and get a paper published.

Personal Projects – Personal projects are beneficial and can be used to make your resume more attractive to companies that offer good packages.

Practical Knowledge -You can only widen your knowledge sphere through practicals, so try to get more practical knowledge based on your core course.

Is pursuing a dual MSc B.E. in BITS Pilani tough?

SD

Student at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

Yes, pursuing a dual MSc BE in BITS Pilani is a very tough and tedious journey. One of my friends ended up going for a dual degree and considers it a complete waste of time. Here is a synopsis of the entire journey.

  • First year: The first year is the deciding time for your BE degree so dualities have to work hard and score a high CGPA.
  • Second year: This year is relaxed as you will be taught only the courses from your first degree (MSc Degree).
  • Third year: It's from this year that your dual degree flaws will start becoming prominent. While the single-degree students will be busy with humanities electives, you will be busy with compulsory discipline electives in both your degrees. This is also the year that will make you realize which degree you want to pursue professionally. However, by this time you will have 2 degrees to pursue so you won’t be able to give the degree you like enough time.
  • Fourth year: This year again is very challenging especially if you do PS for two semesters. You will have to study eight courses without any breaks. Because of this your other degree will suffer and result in poor CG. Your PS chances will be affected in turn that depends on your grades.
  • Fifth year: The fifth-year welcomes the most dreaded thesis. While your counterparts will have to do two discipline electives and another two humanities, you will be doing a 15 credits course alongside sitting for placements. According to the new rules, it is compulsory for students to do a thesis in one degree and PS in the other. Usually, students prefer doing PS in the degree of their choice so a thesis in the degree of not your choice is very difficult.

Overall, I feel that a dual degree is a waste of time and you should reconsider your decision if you are planning to get one.

How is your experience at BITS Pilani? What did you get? What did you expect?

AM

My sister's experience at BITS Pilani was nothing short of magic as she recounts the best hearts of her life there. Like any other student, she had many expectations from her dream college. She yearned for the overall development people talked about at BITS Pilani. She had a list of expectations from making new friends to inculcating skills like independence, personal responsibility, and self-discipline. The institute lived up to its name and all her expectations were fulfilled beyond imagination.

She met the best people who were her support system throughout the 4 years. The campus was huge and peaceful with its natural beauty. Every interest and skill could be cultivated in well-established clubs and departments.

The classes were quite interesting and motivated her to be attentive and regular despite the No attendance rule. This instilled in her a sense of responsibility. Organizing the Oasis was another fun-filled experience and the frequent trips to Khetri, Pahadi, Jaisalmer, and Dharamshala, were out-of-the-world experiences. She got to connect herself to nature and adopt gratitude.

The 4 years changed her personality as a whole for the better and today she gives credit to BITS Pilani for her overall development and successful career.

How is the mess food at BITS Pilani, Pilani campus?

SD

BITS Pilani has the best mess food of any other institute in India. They fed us delicious food that felt homey. Students also have access to small shops nearby to satisfy their bellies. The students are given non-vegetarian food on all days except Tuesdays, and on some days they will get add-ons like ice cream and sweets. So do not worry about the food available here. BITS Pilani never disappoints you.

What are some reasons to choose BITS Pilani over NITs?

NS
Navneet Singh Posted On : July 3rd, 2023

BITS Pilani can easily be compared to many NITs and there are several reasons why I will recommend you to choose BITS Pilani over NITs.

  • The no attendance-policy makes you live your college life as per your will.
  • The crowd at BITS is excellent because of the no-reservation policy.
  • A large number of clubs and departments help you pursue your passion and interest.
  • BITS Pilani coding culture can be compared to most NITs.
  • The mess is student-driven so you can input your demands easily.
  • The professors are highly qualified with an excellent knack for teaching. The Institute does not promote rote learning in any way.
  • Another great feature of BITS Pilani is the practice school wherein you will be working as an intern in big companies.
  • BITS Pilani’s superior infrastructure is also what makes it better than NITs.
  • The top-notch educated combined with the exposure offered results in better placements than most NITs

However, the answer is not for top NITs. Top NITs like Tricy will any day stand better than BITS.

Do all the students who score more than the BITSAT cutoff marks get into BITS Pilani, or does rank also play a role in the selection process?

SS
Sugam Singla Posted On : May 14th, 2024
Studied at BITS, Pilani Graduated 2019

To be eligible for admission at BITS Pilani, you will first have to meet the minimum eligibility criteria. After that, you are eligible to sit for the BITSAT examination.

Each year a certain cut-off mark is decided depending on the number of students appearing and the difficulty of the questions. Once you get a score above the cut-off marks, you will be eligible to sit for the counselling process. This is where the actual selection takes place.

You will be asked to give your preference for campus and engineering specialization. There will be multiple rounds of counselling after which you will be allocated your seat at one of the campuses and your engineering major based on your marks and preference list. If you do not like the campus or your major, then you can opt for the next round of counselling to get your preferred campus and major.

BITS Pilani is a renowned institution in India that offers excellent academic and placement support to students. You don’t need to worry about the branch you selected; BITS Pilani has the advantage of allowing you to switch courses during your first year if you maintain a good CGPA score. After your enrolment in this institute, find out your area of interest and select accordingly

Having a dual degree increases your chances of placement with a good package. Most companies consider dual degrees to be equivalent to a master's degree. So, it is better to opt for a dual degree

Which is best for CS out of NSIT, DTU, and BITS Pilani?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : July 6th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

DTU and NSIT have a number of reservation policies like caste, Delhi quota, and numerous sub-quotas, so the quality of the crowd is average. Anyone who gets to choose BITS Pilani instead will never choose DTU and NSIT. BITS Pilani accepts admission solely on the basis of merit and thus the crowd quality is superior to that of DTU. Sparing the locational factor, BITS has an upper hand in every aspect. Moreover, it’s the only institute to enjoy global recognition apart from IITs.

Specifically talking about CS, the number of Google Summer of Code selections from there is a testament to the credibility of the CS branch here. If you look at the bigger picture and compromise on the location, you will be gaining much more than Delhites.

Why are the BITS Pilani cut offs so low this year?

AB
Arun Biswas Posted On : August 5th, 2023
Studied at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra

The three major reasons for the lower cutoff at BITS Pilani are listed below

Increasing Seats – In the current scenario, IITs are far more developed and are the top institutes in India. An increase in the number of students is directly proportional to the probability of success. So, BITS follows the same pattern used by the smart IITs in India

Increasing Fees – There is a general tendency among students to opt for colleges that are relatively more costly than others, which is evident from institutes like IITs, Harvard, and so on. BITS also started to follow the trend.

Third-Party Factors – As we know, most of the students were attracted to IITs mainly because of the brand name. So the competition level is very high here, so most of the students will choose institutes like BITS, which have lower cutoffs.
