I got 222 in my NMAT exam, what is my conversion chance for NMIMS Mumbai?

AG
Akriti Gupta Posted On : June 15th, 2023
lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Chances are low at this score. At 222, you can get somewhere around the 96-98 percentile. NMIMS Mumbai is hard to convert at this score. The Mumbai campus accepts admissions at a 235+ score which generally converts to the 99+ percentile.

But you have a good chance to convert to the NMIMS Bangalore campus. The Bangalore campus accepts admissions at 220+ score, which converts to the percentile at 96-98. Although NMIMS Bangalore is a decent option, I suggest you give it one more attempt (if you have the time). Otherwise, you can join the Bangalore campus, work hard there, and appear in the top 10% of the students.

Are Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics and Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies different colleges or the same?

SV
Sangeeta Verma Posted On : August 20th, 2021
B.Com (Financial Markets) from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce And Economics (2019)

Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics and Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies is two completely different institutions. The common thing between them is that they are registered under the same trust names SVKM.

  • NM College is affiliated with Mumbai University whereas NMIMS is deemed to be a university. Both are very different.
  • NMIMS, being an autonomous institute, has its own syllabus and courses made and updated by itself.
  • NMIMS offers many courses with lots of changes in the syllabus like B.com (Hons.), BBA, B.sc, Finance, B.sc Economics for undergraduate and MBA and others for post Graduate.
  • NM College offers courses such as B.Com, Bachelors in Management Studies (BMS), Bachelors in Accounting and Finance (BAF), Bachelors in Financial Markets (BFM), and other postgraduate courses as well.

NMIMS has better academics because their courses and syllabus are regularly updated according to the response given by the students. They can update their syllabus however they seem fit but on the other hand, NMCCE is under Mumbai University which does not change its syllabus frequently and has outdated courses too. Moreover, the fee for NMIMS is way higher than NMCCE which is considered affordable.

Do a fresher have a chance to get into NMIMS?

SG

Yes, there are equal chances of both freshers and experienced employees to get a seat in NMIMS. There are several aspects that a candidate needs to consider to get a chance in institutes like NMIMS, and some of them are listed below in points.

  • Being a fresher or having some experience in the industry does not matter much. The main things that matter are the entrance scores, along with the candidate’s performance in group/case discussion and personal interviews.
  • You should focus on your preparation for the entrance exams.
  • During the interviews, it is good to have an interesting profile that you will discuss and showcase. So, internship and extra-curricular participation is a good thing for building a top-class resume.
  • You should have a clear vision about your reason for pursuing an MBA, along with a detailed description of matters of interest like Finance, Marketing, HR, Operations, etc. The PI round mostly revolves around these aspects only.
  • There are some institutes where academics play a very crucial role. But, that is not the case with NMIMS, giving very low weightage to academic results.
  • In general, NMIMS gives 70% weightage to NMAT score, 15% to CD and PI scores, 5% to work experience, 5% in gender diversity, and 5% to academics.
  • In the 2018-2020 batch, there were 27% freshers, which makes it quite evident the chances of freshers in the institute.

Therefore, freshers can definitely get a seat in NMIMS, provided they have the correct profile and perform well in the entrance, CD, and PI rounds.

Despite being housed in just one building, Narsee Monjee College, Mumbai accommodates more colleges than many cities do. It may sound unconventional, but the experience is truly amazing.

If you're contemplating pursuing your studies at NMIMS, be assured that the size of the college should not be a concern. From the friendly faculty to the diverse student body and the multiple canteens, everything is top-notch.

One of the best aspects of NMIMS is the approachability and helpfulness of its faculty members. They are always accessible, whether through phone or in-person communication, and always happy to assist with any queries or difficulties. This is undoubtedly a significant advantage. All in all, NMIMS is an excellent option and you should not hesitate to pursue it.

Which MBA is better for operations: XIMB or NMIMS?

RD
Rittim Das Posted On : March 13th, 2023
Studied at Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development (2017)

If I was in your place, I would have gone for NMIMS. Operation profiles are usually offered in these 3 industries.

  • FMCG
  • E-commerce
  • Consulting

Comparing these industries, you will find NMIMS as the best option. There are many big companies from these industries that visit NMIMS like

  1. FMCG: ITC , Dabur, HUL, Marico, Asian Paints, Pidilite, Kelloggs, Loreal, HCCB, Britannia, Perfetti.
  2. Most of these companies do not visit XIMB and even if they do the roles offered are average.
  3. E-Commerce: Flipkart, Amazon, Shopclues, Girnarsoft(Car Dekho), Bluestone. None of these visited XIMB.
  4. Finance: Goldman Sachs, Nomura, JP Morgan, ICICI Bank
  5. IT: Microsoft, Google, SAP, Cisco, National Instruments
  6. Conglomerates: GE, Mahindra, etc.

All in all, the top recruiters combined with locational advantage, industry relations, and broad career prospects make NMIMS the better option of the two.
