What do they do in counselling for an M.Tech at IIT Roorkee?

- A list of applicants is prepared for students applying for that branch which is based on GATE score/ GATE rank (category-wise).

What should I choose between an MBA from IIM Amritsar and central excise inspector or other inspector jobs from SSC CGL?
Looking at the 2 options provided by you, I can say IIM Amritsar is definitely a better choice. I have seen many people regret going for CGL.
Excise Inspector is the worst post of CGL and many of them retire as superintendents themselves. The transfer is banned in CBIC so no matter which remote area you have been posted to, you have to stay there for 15-20 years until you become Assistant Commissioner which is rare.
You can change your life in two ways
- Crack UPSC
- Or leave the post and prepare for CAT
You can become a CEO through the second option. I have many acquaintances who left the CGL and went for CAT and today are entrepreneurs or CEOs. Surely the job at CGL provides security but the job itself is not worth it.
Can I crack CAT while studying in IIM Raipur?
The one-liner answer to your question is - Yes you can crack CAT while studying full-time at IIM Raipur but you should not. This is because it entirely depends on your motivation and dedication. Without that, you won’t be able to prepare for CAT well and even end up affecting your PGP score.
I know a person who was able to ace this. He prepared for CAT relentlessly alongside pursuing PGP. He worked day and night, sacrificed his sleep, and was able to get into IIM Kozhikode. But what you need to understand from this is that it was a very uncommon and rare situation. Other students of the same batch tried the same but one was able to crack CAT.
It all comes down to how serious you are about joining a better IIM. If you are confident enough to ace the CAT and not let its preparation affect your PGP scores, then we’ll do well. Go for it!
What is done in counselling at the IIT Roorkee MTech admission?
Counseling at IIT Roorkee is done through a number of steps given below
- You will receive emails regarding the documents you need to bring along with you. These include marks sheets and college certificates.
- The college fees will be specified in the mail. Make a demand draft and bring it along with you.
- In case, you opt out of the college, your fees will be refunded.
- You will then have to visit IIT Roorkee on the date specified in the mail along with all the documents.
- Students are summoned branch-wise. Everyone has to fill 2 forms, one containing your personal details while the other will need your demand draft details.
- One by one the students are called upon the stage on the basis of their gate score. Students are allotted seats in their desired specialization, provided that the seats are available
- Those who are unable to get their desired branch have 2 options; either withdraw themselves from the counseling process or submit their demand draft as an eligibility criterion for continuation in the counseling process in case of availability of seats later on.
