He praised the contributions of IITs in the technological development of the nation and suggestion the formation of a confederation of alumni associations.

New Delhi: Vice President of India, Mr Jagdeep Dhankar has emphased on the significant role played by the Higher Education Institutions in driving economic development in the country. He said so during his speech at the IIT-ISM Dhanbad convocation ceremony on December 11, 2023.
During the addressing speech as the Chief Guest of IIT-ISM Dhanbad, Dhankar discussed education as the most impactful transformational mechanism in society. The nation's stature is linked to the quality of education provided to its youth.
He also emphasized on the role of state and central governments in the overall development of the country. He praised India's advancements in military assets and stressed the Prime Minister's endeavours in domestic warship Vikrant, frigates, fighter planes, strategic helicopters, and missiles, reiterating India's willingness to invest in technical growth.
He praised IIT graduates for their accomplishments in an array of industry sectors and recommended an alliance of alumni unions for harnessing their qualifications in legislation.
Dhankar also suggested the forming of a confederation of alumni associations of the IITs in the country. According to him, through this, their experience, expertise and exposure can be utilised in policy making and they can act as catalyst of change.
Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan, state health minister Banna Gupta, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad BoG chairman Prem Vrat and IIT (ISM) Dhanbad director JK Pattanayak were also present on the occasion.
