The Re-NEET 2026 is significantly broader in scope than the 2024 retest, which was limited to a small group of grace-mark candidates following a Supreme Court directive. This time, every single candidate who appeared on 3 May 2026 will need to retake the exam.

The GOI has decided to refer the NEET Paper Leak 2026 matter to the CBI for a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations. NTA has said to give full cooperation to the investigating agency and to give all the materials, records, and assistance required for the inquiry.

The NTA had released the NEET UG 2026 provisional answer key on 6 May 2026, just three days after the exam, the fastest-ever release. With the cancellation of the May 3 exam, this answer key now stands void. The objection window that was being awaited has also been rendered redundant.

Candidates who had paid the objection fee (Rs. 200 per question) will reportedly be refunded. The Re-NEET 2026 will have its own fresh question paper, provisional answer key, objection window, and final answer key, none of the May 3 exam data carries forward to the re-exam.

The MCC NEET UG Counselling 2026 schedule, which was tentatively expected to begin in mid-July 2026, will now be delayed. The counselling cannot start until the Re-NEET result is declared.

Based on the new tentative timeline, the entire counselling cycle is now expected to shift by 4–6 weeks. Aspirants targeting the 2026–27 MBBS academic session should plan for a compressed counselling window between August and October 2026.

The Government of India has referred the alleged NEET UG 2026 paper leak to the Central Bureau of Investigation following findings shared by the Rajasthan Special Operations Group.

The CBI will examine whether the breach was the work of an organised network and trace its path from the suspected source believed to be a printing facility in Jaipur, through its reported spread across six locations: Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Nagaur, Dehradun, Jaipur, and Kerala.
