New Delhi: The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) unit of Atam Pargas Social Welfare Council organised an event at Gurdwara Sahib on the university campus, Ludhiana, to honour the families of those farmers who lost their lives during the farmers’ agitation 2020-21.
On this occasion, Punjab Agricultural University's Vice-Chancellor (VC) Satbir Singh Gosal extended his moral support and honoured 36 families of people who died in the Ludhiana district during the protest.
Welcoming the dignitaries and students, Varinderpal Singh, Chairman, Atam Pargas and Principal Soil Chemist of PAU, said that Atam Pargas's team has personally reviewed the families of 1,024 farmers who lost their lives or were injured during the farmers’ agitation against the three agricultural laws.
VC further stated that “The detailed information of all the families was available on the Atam Pargas website. Apart from supporting needy families in setting up small businesses for self-reliance, the Atam Pargas team has also supported the education of the children, treatment of patients, construction and repair of houses as needed.”.
“One volunteer has been assigned with each family as a coordinator so that the family can contact the concerned member for their needs”, he added. VC Gosal also established a ‘Triveni’ by planting neem, peepal and banyan trees in memory of the farmers who lost their lives at Kisan Morcha.
Varinderpal Singh said that ‘Trivenis’ are being established in the villages of every farmer who lost his life as a memory of the farmers' agitation alive for future generations.
