New Delhi: Pondicherry University (PU) has joined hands with five institutions affiliated with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for efficient use of the available resources. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Friday, October 21, 2022.
As per Pondicherry University, the ICMR will offer a new Post-Graduate Course in Public Health Entomology (MSc PHE) as part of the National Public Health Entomology (NPHE) Program under this collaboration. This agreement will aim to offer various initiatives to students of ICMR and PU.
In accordance with this MoU, the new MSc programme will be provided by ICMR RMRC, Dibrugarh; ICMR RMRC Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh; ICMR NIRTH Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh; ICMR RMRIMS Patna, Bihar; and ICMR Vector Control Research Centre, Puducherry.
Referring to the initiative, the VC Professor Gurmeet Singh of Pondicherry University said, "Through their combined efforts, these two fields of study and research would be able to analyse situations from several angles and discover solutions to complicated issues.
“Additionally, sharing and efficient use of the resources available at diverse institutions would benefit from this” he further added.
Under this collaboration, the ICMR would provide the students with a stipend of INR 20,000 per month. The release stated that the agreement would also allow the institutions to collaborate on various extramural and intramurally funded projects.
The joint projects include collaborative mentoring for PhD students, conferences, workshops, faculty and student exchange programs, facility sharing, diploma and certificate programs in a variety of fields, and the creation of educational resources among others.
The MoU was signed in the presence of the Directors of ICMR Institutions, Ashwani Kumar, Kanwar Narain, Rajnikant Srivastava, Aparup Das, Krishna Pandey, Head of International Health and Human Resource Development, Mukesh Kumar and ICMR Delhi Deputy Director General Dr Lakshminarayanan.
