Pondicherry University Begins Applications for PhD Admissions 2026; Apply Now

Pondicherry University has announced the opening of online applications for its Doctorate (PhD) programmes for the 2026 session.

The university is inviting candidates across various disciplines to apply through its entrance‐examination category. The application window begins on 12 November 2025, and the last date to submit the online form is 30 December 2025, so interested candidates have just over six weeks to complete their applications.

As per the university’s notification, the application fee per programme is ₹ 1,500 for general (unreserved) candidates, ₹ 750 for SC/ST candidates, and nil for those applying under the PH / Transgender category, all payable online only.

Pondicherry University has laid out clear eligibility requirements for PhD applicants. Candidates must have followed a 10+2+3+2 education pattern (or 10+2+5) and hold a Master’s degree in the subject concerned (or in a closely allied subject). This Master’s degree should be from a recognized university, and the candidate must have secured a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade). Importantly, final-year postgraduate (PG) students who expect to complete their degree before admission may also apply.

To apply, prospective candidates must visit the Pondicherry University online admission portal (pondiuni.edu.in) and fill out the application form as per the instructions provided. Applicants should be careful when entering details such as course codes, centre codes, and their category (general, SC/ST, OBC, EWS, etc.), as any mistake could lead to rejection. Separate applications are required for each PhD program a candidate wishes to apply to.

Selection Process

Selection will be made on a combined basis of performance in the entrance examination and interview, conducted by the relevant Departments or Centres. In some cases, candidates may be exempted from the entrance exam, for example, those who have qualified UGC/CSIR NET with JRF, or other recognized national-level tests, but they must refer to the university’s information brochure for detailed rules.
