Why Was NEET PG Round-1 Counselling Revised?
MCC revised the Round-1 process of NEET PG Counselling 2025 because the national seat inventory changed significantly at the last moment. Two major updates from regulatory bodies, NMC and NBE, directly impacted the number of seats available for allocation, making the previously released matrix and schedule outdated.
First, the National Medical Commission (NMC) sanctioned 239 new PG seats for Deemed Universities. These approvals arrived just before the start of seat processing, and MCC included them to ensure that candidates could access all newly recognised seats in Round 1 itself.
Second, the National Board of Examinations (NBE) instructed MCC to withdraw 235 PG DNB seats, including 186 from Government institutions and 49 from Private hospitals. Since these seats could no longer be offered, MCC had to remove them from the matrix and recast the roster for DNB-offering government institutes.
The All India Quota MD/MS roster remains unchanged for Round 1. The rest of the seats (MD/ MS and Deemed Universities) sanctioned by NMC will be added to the seat matrix during Round 2 of counselling.
Because of these large additions and deletions occurring simultaneously, candidates' earlier choice lists became outdated. MCC therefore revised the counselling schedule to give candidates enough time to review the updated matrix, make fresh choices, and avoid any disadvantage during seat processing.
