The to-be-constructed medical colleges will have a capacity of 100 students along with a 430-bed hospital. The colleges and hospitals will be set up in 18 districts.

New Delhi: Finance Minister Ajit Pawar has announced the setting up of 18 new medical colleges in the state of Maharashtra. The announcement was made while presenting the Maharashtra Assembly Budget 2024.
The to-be-constructed medical colleges will have a capacity of 100 students along with a 430-bed hospital. The colleges and hospitals will be set up in 18 districts. Among these 18 colleges, 16 had already been approved during the interim budget while two have been added in the final budget. The two colleges added are: Unani College at Raigad and Ayurveda College in Buldana District.
Though the state has given approval, these colleges are still awaiting approval from the National Medical Commission( NMC). It is expected that the medical colleges will start their functions from the academic session 2024-25. The medical colleges will be set up in Dharashiv, Nasik, Sindhudurg and Palghar.
This year, the amount allocated to Medical Education Department by the Maharashtra Government has been increased by INR 97 Cr from previous year. The increased budget will be used in setting up the the new colleges and posts.
