New Delhi: Lovely Professional University (LPU) has achieved a milestone by securing the First Runner-Up position in the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Sports Trophy 2023. This milestone signifies a first for any private university since the trophy’s establishment in 1956.

Lovely Professional University(LPU) students have not only secured this prestigious recognition but have also been honored with the distinguished Arjuna Award, a testament to their outstanding achievements in sports. Acknowledged by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, during the 'National Sports Awards' ceremony, LPU stands among the top two recipients of the MAKA Sports Trophy for 2023.

This remarkable accomplishment elevates LPU's standing and strengthens its pioneering role in sports. Notably, Nasreen, a talented Kho Kho player and a first-year MPEd student at LPU, has been bestowed with the prestigious Arjuna Award, highlighting the exceptional contributions of LPU courses to the students in the sports field.

In January 2024, Nasreen will be honored with the Arjuna Award by the President of India, marking a monumental moment that underscores the university’s commitment to nurturing sporting excellence and fostering a culture of achievement.

The National Sports Awards, an annual recognition of remarkable sports achievements, encompass accolades such as the ‘Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award,’ ‘Arjuna Award for outstanding performance in Sports and Games,’ ‘Dronacharya Award for exceptional coaches,’ and the ‘Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime Achievement in Sports and Games.’

The coveted MAKA Trophy is bestowed upon the university, excelling in inter-university tournaments. This year witnessed numerous applications, meticulously evaluated by the esteemed 'Selection Committee' chaired by retired Supreme Court Justice A. M. Khanwilkar, alongside distinguished sportspersons, seasoned sports journalists, and sports administrators.
