KEAM 2026 Score Calculation Explainer: How Your 960 Marks Become a Rank out of 600

Many candidates are confused about how their raw KEAM exam score (out of 960) gets converted into the final index marks out of 600 used for ranking — here is a clear step-by-step explainer as per CEE Kerala's official formula.

  • Step 1 — Raw score: You attempt Paper I (Physics + Chemistry, max 480) and Paper II (Mathematics, max 480). Raw total = out of 960.
  • Step 2 — Session normalisation: CEE normalises your raw score across all exam shifts using statistical parameters (mean and standard deviation of scores across sessions). This produces your normalised entrance score.
  • Step 3 — Scale to 300: The normalised entrance score is scaled so that the maximum possible entrance marks component = 300.
  • Step 4 — Class 12 standardisation: Your Class 12 PCM marks are standardised across boards and scaled so that the maximum Class 12 component = 300.
  • Step 5 — Combine for rank: Index marks = Entrance component (max 300) + Class 12 component (max 300) = out of 600. Rank is assigned based on this combined index score, highest first.
  • Only Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from Class 12 are used. Only candidates who submit Class 12 marks are ranked.

KEAM 2026 Profile Correction Open Until May 10 — Verify Your Details Before Result Arrives

CEE Kerala has kept the KEAM 2026 Candidate Profile Correction facility open until May 10, 2026 — the same day the result is expected — making today the penultimate chance to fix any errors in name, category, or academic details before the rank list is prepared.

  • Candidates should log into cee.kerala.gov.in/KEAM/ and verify their name spelling, date of birth, category (OC/BC/SC/ST/SEBC), and contact details before the correction window closes.
  • Category errors are especially critical — if the wrong category is selected, reservation benefits will not apply during counselling even if the candidate is entitled to them.
  • For candidates who mistakenly selected General (OC) instead of a reserved category like EWS, SEBC, or BC: the correction window is still active — update immediately on cee.kerala.gov.in.
  • No profile correction will be entertained after May 10, 2026. CEE Kerala will prepare the rank list using the data submitted before the deadline.
KEAM 2026 Pharmacy Marks vs Rank: Expected Table Out of 300 (Paper I Only)

For B.Pharm admission, the KEAM rank list is prepared based solely on Paper I (Physics & Chemistry) scores — maximum 480 marks normalised to 300. Class 12 marks are NOT included in pharmacy ranking.

KEAM Pharmacy Score (out of 300) Expected Rank Remarks
280 – 300 1 – 500 Top pharmacy colleges, government seats
255 – 279 500 – 2,500 Government & top aided pharmacy colleges

100 – 189 8,000 – 20,000 Private pharmacy colleges
Below 100 20,000+ Very limited seats
  • In KEAM 2025, Pharmacy Topper Anakha Anil scored 290/300 (Paper I only) and secured Rank 1.
  • The top districts for pharmacy in 2025 were Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Palakkad.
  • Government Pharmacy College Kozhikode and Medical College Pharmacy are the most sought-after pharmacy institutions through KEAM.

KEAM 2026 Medical Candidates: NEET UG 2026 AIR will be considered

Candidates seeking MBBS, BDS, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Siddha, or Allied Medical course admission through KEAM 2026 are not required to appear for any CEE-conducted entrance test — their NEET UG 2026 All India Rank (AIR) is used directly for Kerala state quota seat allotment.

  • CEE Kerala does NOT conduct a separate medical entrance test. NEET UG 2026 conducted by NTA is the only qualifying test for medical admissions.
  • Candidates must still register for KEAM on cee.kerala.gov.in — registration is mandatory to be considered in the CEE Kerala CAP allotment for medical seats.
  • KEAM 2026 medical registration allows candidates to participate in state quota seat allotment based on their NEET UG 2026 AIR and applicable reservations.
  • The NEET-based KEAM rank list for medical courses (MBBS/BDS/BAMS etc.) is separate from the engineering rank list — the May 10 scorecard does not include medical ranks.
  • B.Pharm candidates, however, appear in the CEE-conducted KEAM pharmacy test (Paper I only) and do NOT need NEET.

KEAM 2026 Architecture Candidates: No CEE Test, NATA Score Required for B.Arch Admission

Candidates seeking B.Arch (Bachelor of Architecture) admission through KEAM 2026 should note that CEE Kerala does NOT conduct a separate architecture entrance test — admission is based on NATA scores combined with Class 12 marks.

  • Candidates must qualify NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) conducted by the Council of Architecture (CoA) to be eligible for B.Arch admission through KEAM CAP.
  • Alternatively, candidates who appeared for JEE Main Paper 2 (B.Arch) can use that score for KEAM Architecture counselling.
  • The KEAM B.Arch rank list is prepared based on NATA/JEE Paper 2 scores combined with Class 12 marks — not the KEAM engineering scorecard.
  • Eligibility: Minimum 50% aggregate in PCM in Class 12 (or 10+3 Diploma with Maths, minimum 50%) for B.Arch. Engineering candidates are not eligible for B.Arch through engineering rank list.
  • Architecture candidates must still register for KEAM on cee.kerala.gov.in and submit NATA/JEE scores through the KEAM portal.

KEAM 2026 Total Registrations: 1,48,146 Candidates( Highest-Ever), Up 24% from 2025

For KEAM 2026, a total of 1,48,146 candidates registered — comprising 1,08,409 Engineering aspirants and 39,737 Pharmacy applicants — marking a significant jump from 1,19,974 who appeared in KEAM 2025.

Stream KEAM 2026 Registered KEAM 2025 Appeared Change
Engineering 1,08,409 86,549 +25.3%
Pharmacy 39,737 33,425 +18.9%
Total 1,48,146 1,19,974 +23.5%
  • The 24% jump in total registrations is attributed to increased awareness of KEAM and growing demand for engineering and pharmacy seats in Kerala.
  • With significantly more candidates, competition is expected to be higher — ranks for the same score may shift downward compared to 2025.
  • However, actual appearance figures (those who physically took the exam) will be lower than registration numbers due to no-shows — official data will be published with the result.
KEAM 2026 Tie-Breaking Rules: How CEE Resolves Equal Composite Scores in Rank List

When two or more candidates in KEAM 2026 receive the same composite index score, CEE Kerala resolves the tie using a sequential set of criteria as defined in the official KEAM 2026 prospectus — a critical factor that can shift a rank by thousands.

Tie-Break Priority Criteria
1st Higher marks in Mathematics in the KEAM entrance exam (Paper II)
2nd Higher marks in Physics in the KEAM entrance exam (Paper I)
3rd Higher standardised marks in Mathematics in qualifying exam (Class 12)
4th Higher standardised marks in Physics in qualifying exam (Class 12)
5th Higher age — the older candidate is ranked higher
  • In KEAM 2025, multiple candidates shared identical top scores of 588.5773/600 — tie-breaking was applied to assign separate ranks (1 through 5).
  • Candidates should note: scoring high in Mathematics in the entrance exam is the most important tie-breaker — it can decide rank between candidates with identical composite scores.
  • The tie-breaking criteria are applied in strict order — if criteria 1 is tied, criteria 2 is used, and so on.

KEAM 2026 Normalisation Explained: How CEE Kerala Calculates Your Score

???? Google Trends: "KEAM normalisation 2026" and "how KEAM marks are calculated" are trending queries today — students want to understand if their shifted session affects their score.

Because KEAM 2026 is a multi-day, multi-shift Computer-Based Test, CEE Kerala applies a standardised normalisation formula to ensure no candidate is advantaged or disadvantaged by their session's difficulty level.

  • Session normalisation: CEE adjusts raw scores across shifts using a statistical formula that equalises difficulty levels — a harder paper in your session will not lower your final score unfairly compared to an easier session.
  • Board mark standardisation: Class 12 marks from different boards (Kerala Syllabus, CBSE, ICSE, CISCE, IGCSE etc.) are also standardised using a formula that converts them to a comparable scale.
  • The final normalised KEAM score is expressed out of 960 (Paper I + Paper II). This normalised score is what appears on the KEAM 2026 scorecard — not the raw marks.
  • For the Engineering Rank List: Final rank is calculated as 50% KEAM normalised score + 50% standardised Class 12 PCM marks, scaled to a combined score out of 600.
