JNU has revised its PhD Admission criteria as per which the university will accept NET Scores for PhD Admission and no entrance tests will be conducted for the same.
New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has updated its PhD admission criteria for the academic session 2024-25. The changes have been made in accordance with the University Grants Commission's (UGC) National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
In addition to this, JNU has announced that the JNU PhD Admission will now be done on the basis of the National Eligibility Test (NET) scores instead of the entrance test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
According to the official notification, the University Grants Commission (UGC), as part of the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, has announced in its Public Notice dated March 27, 2024, that the universities and higher educational institutions (HEIs) can use the scores from the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC and CSIR for PhD admissions, instead of conducting separate entrance tests.
What is the JNU PhD Admission Process 2024?
The applications for PhD Admission at JNU will be accepted from eligible candidates falling into two categories:
- JRF-qualified candidates (Category 1), and candidates with NET scores (Category 1: JRF-qualified candidates, Category 2: Candidates qualified for Assistant Professorship without JRF).
- Admission for JRF-qualified candidates will be based on the process of 100% weightage given to the viva-voce assessment.
- PhD Admission for candidates with NET scores will replace the entrance examination. The weightage for NET scores and viva voce will be in a ratio of 70% and 30% respectively.
